Day 2 Week 1

Recently I visited a bookstore and purchased "The Diary Of A Young Girl by Anne Frank" for inspiration and more knowledge on this topic. I've read around one third of her diary and discovered much more about life in her time as a Jew.

Anyways, just thought I would say that, carrying along...

Day Two (June 2)

"Nannete!" A very familiar voice shrieked.

I gradually opened my eyes, guessing it was Bernard "This isn't the time, Bernard!"

He gasped. "Oh! why, Nanny this is very important!" Brushing his fingers through his hair, then grabbed my bag.

I moaned. "Don't call me that! Just tell me what you want!"

"We need to hide, wake up and get ready!" He said, stripping my sheet with a terrorising look on his face. I reacted immediately.

"What? Why?" I shrieked. "God, oh God!" I tumbled off my bed, creating a huge vibration that knocked my small shelf down.

I should've known, I should never trust Bernard. Even if he's my own brother I've known for oh-so very long.

He chuckled. "You're so gullible! You should know it was a joke by now, Hah!" He suddenly turned my bag to the opposite direction, causing all my books, emergency clothing, snacks, and valuables to be released. Before I could say anything, the door slammed open. It was my mother.

I felt myself grinning ear to ear. "Finally!" I whispered underneath my breath. Mother looked serious, a bit like Hitler during public speeches.

"Bernard! That was not a funny joke, it's serious!" Mother said, with an even worse look on her face, "Please don't mess with her or anyones bags. They're important."

This whole hiding thing meant a lot to our family. But it was something most people our age can't understand.

Mother sighed. "This is one of the toughest things you will face in your life." Mother paused. "-if not one of your last. Anyway, what I'm saying is, it's gotten to the point that in less of a month- maybe weeks; hiding may be the more important decision in our life"

Bernard gradually tilted his head to the floor. Mother was silent, so was I.

I sighed, "Mother?" I paused. "I'm starting to think, what's the point hiding? Hitler has his smart ways, won't we just end up dying?"

I suddenly felt the pressure of my heart pressing against my ribs. "Why did I even bring this up, even I can't talk about this without having an anxiety attack." I thought, immediately regretting my decision. How silly was I to mention such a topic even Hanneli cannot handle!

Bernard gasped. "Nannete! You'll give Mom a heart attack!" Bernard briskly shook his head, massaging Mothers back.

Mother sighed. "It's better to say we escaped for at least some time than making no attempt, plus we should at least try."

Her voice was straining. I felt bad, I wondered what things she had to experience with the whole war drama before I was born.

I felt a tiny tear fall down my cheeks. Mother immediately put her arms on my shoulders for comfort. I slightly tilted my head to see what Bernard was doing; he had used a hat to cover his face and sat on my bed, num. I couldn't tell if he was doing it in annoyance or he was secretly shedding his own tears.

Suddenly, Bernard gradually pulled down his hat and reached for his eyes, dabbing them rapidly. He was crying.

I moved over to him and gave him one huge. He cared, I knew he cared, just afraid to show it. A couple of minutes later the door slammed open, it was Hanneli.

"Tears, come on guys! Come out for breakfast!" She shrieked, "I can't imagine what it would be like for you guys once we actually need to hide!" She was always the bossy type, but deep down she was scared. She's just a good pretender.

The dining table was quiet as a mouse, no one had much to say. When I finished, I immediately excused myself out of the table. Hanneli and Anne waved bye as I made my way back to my room.

I needed to brainstorm ideas for a present; It was almost Anne's birthday and I didn't have a bunch of stuff to give yet.

"Anne is a book lover, maybe I could get a book from the market," I thought. But then I rethought, those markets had high-tech security nowadays. I didn't want to risk anything. "Maybe I should write a book? The best gifts are handmade! Or-" My thoughts are interrupted due to the door slamming open, people really need to chill-out.

"Hey, Nannete! You sure were in a hurry, something wrong?" It was from Anne, uncrossing her arms.

I sighed. "Ah, yes! Just thinking of the perfect gift for a special friend."

Anne slightly smiled, but immediately frowned after. "I'm afraid you don't need to worry! My gift will probably be hiding in a huge attic! But it's all good! Heh..."

I gasped. "Think positively! Even if we do end up hiding, I promise I'll find something for you!"

Anne smiled, this time for real. I reached in for a hug. Anne deserved a gift, no matter what I'm finding her one.
