Chapter twenty eight: The ocean spirit
(Y/n) had a dreamless sleep and woke fully rested. The bottle of her favorite alcohol still sat on the table. She put the alcohol away and got dressed in her usual attire. She noticed that the device on her back seemed to be a little more active then usual. As if it was trying to make up for something. The spirit was not there. He probably was off doing spirit things. The young woman put her mask on and left her apartment to go to work as usual. She had a busy morning ahead of her, she would have to jump from building to building to talk to different prisoners. Not that she minded, she loved to speak to different prisoners. Especially the ones who were civilized, the ones who are not really mean but were in bad circumstances.
She walked down the stairs of the building as she stretched, it was a beautiful day again. The young woman would have to try and train with Samon again, she was getting much much stronger. Perhaps she would even be strong enough to match him one day!
She could feel the muscles under her skin as she felt her stomach, she had become muscular from her continued training. It was like she did not weigh much anymore from how strong she had become. This made her feel better. The female felt like she was closer to being able to beat Elf with this. She picked up her assignments for today from headquarters and looked them over as she ate a quick breakfast. She has to visit buildings 6 and 7. That meant meeting up with Damian and Nijimasu. Those two were always nice to talk to, building 7's Nijimasu was always so nice to talk to and he shared candy. (Y/n) remembered what she heard about them. They were pretty good friends, but their buildings were thematically opposite to each other. Damian's building 6 being the building of nightmares while Nijimasu's building 7 was the building of dreams. She wondered what kind of building theme she would have made of she was a supervising officer of a building. It would probably theme around her coldness or her love of others. She giggled as she got on the tram. She read over the schedule more, after the first two buildings, she would have to go visit Musashi again, meet with Samon's boys for a group session, and then go back to her own office in order to do some paperwork. That did not leave a lot of time to go see Koisuke. But her building nine supervisor boyfriend would have to wait.
She had work to do today, mostly in the morning, but the rest of the afternoon would be taken up by her paperwork that had been piling up for many days. Perhaps she could talk to her ocean spirit friend while she works, the female hoped he would not mind talking to her as she worked on the paperwork. She looked out to the glistening ocean as the tram moved. It made her remember that he mentioned that the shark she saw was his friend. He mentioned that he had more shark friends around. (Y/n) wondered if the sharks she had been seeing during her trips were his friends. She never saw dolphins, only sharks. If he was sending his sharks to keep an eye on her, that would explain it. But that would mean that the times she saw a young man playing with a massive shark was him and a friend as well.
She remembered that the one she saw had a tail like that of a shark, was her friend some sort of Kojin? The blue and pink haired female hoped so, she read that Kojin were emotional and kind creatures despite how intimidating they were. Perhaps she could look past his fearsome appearance and see his golden heart of that was the case.
She got up and disembarked the tram after it stopped at building 6. It looked like a massive haunted mansion. The dark colors and decor was eerily beautiful. The female knew that the prisoners in here looked scarier than they actually were. She loved building 6's cell 13 as much as she did building 13's cell 13. But she loved all of the prisoners the same, just for different reasons. She walked right to the guard room and greeted Damian and his other guards. The big, masked supervisor greeted her warmly in return. He was a kind soul despite how he looked.
After she talked to him she made her way to cell thirteen for their group session. The boys all looked pretty happy to see her again. She sat in their cell with them and spoke of their pasts, how they were feeling at the present and any other problem that they would have. All four of the boys gave their answers and spoke politely to her. The female was able to give each of them individual attention and advice. She gave the ones who needed hugs some hugs. She left the males after their time was done.
Damian talked to her for a bit before she had to go to the neighboring building, the large supervisor pressed his index fingers together as he talked to her, this was normal for the timid man. He was such a kind and caring person, like another father figure for the cold bodied female. She gave him a hug. His hug was returned by him. Damian's deputy supervisor saw them hug and chuckled at them. The two separated and bid each other goodbye after she gave the deputy a hug.
Their neighbor, building seven was very different. The building had a light and airy look to it. Soft colors were everywhere. It was like something from a fairytale with how pretty it was. Nijimasu was quick to greet the cold bodied female, (y/n) gave him a polite greeting in return and saw her boyfriend was there to deliver paperwork to the colorful building. It was a surprise but she gave him a polite greeting as well. Koisuke seemed to perk up after he saw his girlfriend, it was a quick interaction, but both were happy to see each other. Koisuke knew he could not stay and be with his girlfriend any longer, so he returned to his own building.
(Y/n) helped Nijimasu to corral his inmates into their cells after they had their free time. He pointed her to some of the troubled inmates and she was able to talk to them to see what was wrong. Mostly it was a little argument between the cellmates. It was easily smoothed over, however a few of them had issues that needed a little more in depth work. She did what she could with the time she had with them. She told them that they can ask their supervisor to schedule an appointment to speak with her when they need it. She had to go to other buildings and work there before having her free time to do paperwork. She wished she had more time to help these poor souls. The forgotten and disposed of. The ones that society gave up on.
She wanted to save those souls from themselves and from those who would do them harm. That was the reason she came to work there in the first place.
She traveled over to building five to do the group session Samon had requested from her with his boys.
They were already in the sitting area when she got there. Samon was bouncing his leg with a little agitation. The female sat down to start the session. She asked all of them to tell her about their pasts and how they met. Each of them painted a story that was grotesque and heartbreaking. (Y/n) had to keep herself from showing any emotion as she listened to their stories. She began to talk with them about how they have grown from where they once were. She made sure to be polite to them as their pasts were a sore area for them. After more talking, the session had to end. She thanked Upa for the plant she got, she told him how sweet and thoughtful the gift was. Upa made a face that said he did not want to talk about it, a little bit of pink on his cheeks told her that he was touched by how nice she was. (Y/n) spoke with Qi for a little bit to learn about how to care for the plant before she went to the tram to travel to building 13 to get some paperwork done in her office.
Her office was just as she left it. Orderly and papers on the desk that needed to be filled out. She sat down and began to work. Not long after she did, she saw the spirit appear on her couch. "Hello Yuki.," the spirit greeted, "Are you free to talk?" The female nodded to his words and kept filling out papers.
"So what are you doing?," he asked. (Y/n) did not look up as she answered him, "I am filling out some paperwork." He hummed and looked around her office. The spirit seemed to be amused by the adorable decorations in her office, even more so by the plush dolls that sat on her desk. His eyes were set on Shiro's doll for a little bit of time, but his eyes ran over to her doll. His eyes stared at the little plush version of (y/n) for a long time before getting up and walking over to look at it closer. (Y/n) looked up to see the ocean spirit standing before her desk and staring at the dolls, "Seitarou made those." The spirit looked at her then back at her dolls, "So cute."
"They are, Seitarou made them for me after he saw how much I missed my best friend.," the young woman spoke and picked up the Shiro doll, "I still miss Shiro, but at least I have something to remember him with."
She did not see the spirit flinch, but he kept a smile on the part of his face that the young woman could see. He was more of a dark silhouette to her, save for the hands and around his mouth. His yellow eyes eerily glowed from his eyes. The young woman placed the door back on the desk, right next to hers. The spirit reached out his hand to her, his blue painted fingernails caught her attention right as he touched her cheek. "You're so cute, Yuki.," the spirit said and sat on the chair beside her. The female looked to the spirit and sighed, "Only Shiro can call me that. But how do you know my nickname?"
The shark like male laughed, "I've always known you as Yuki. It is something I cannot help but to call you." His warm hand patted her back with some enthusiasm, like he had known her for a long time. She did not know him, was this actually a creepy spirit that liked to stalk her? The male's warm smile made her second guess that thought, he seemed warm and genuine.
"You said before that you had shark friends.," (y/n) said and placed her pen down, "What kind of sharks are they?"
"There is a thresher, a tiger, a sand tiger and a great white right of the top of my head.," the spirit replied, "all of them are good."
"So. Is it possible for me to be friends with them as well?," the female asked, "Sharks are such beautiful creatures." The ocean spirit's eyes widened, "You, you would be their friend too?" He had a big grin on his face as (y/n) nodded to him.
Hie gave her a big hug, "Yes! I will tell them! We can all be good friends! You will love them! Chojiro already thinks that you are cute after he was trying to get you away from the riptide."
"Chojiro? Is that the name of the cute thresher that was pushing me?," (y/n) asked as she was being squished in the strong arms of the spirit. The spirit nodded and grinned, "You think he is cute? He'll like to hear that."
There was something warm about him, something that did not hurt her. The young woman smelled the gentle salty ocean smell on this spirit. He smelled like the ocean. His hug was comforting as he hugged her. It was wonderful.
The next moment, she was alone. No spirit. Just a mountain of paperwork to get through.
Talking to that spirit was nice, he was energetic and good hearted.
She wanted to know more about him and talk more with him.
