Chapter Thirty-five: Introductions to the others
Kojiro led (y/n) through the house. His warm hand held her cold one.
"It might be hard to get used to, but I think you will like them.," the shark like man said and walked with the icy woman, "Kujaku has been wanting another woman around for so long."
"Kujaku?," the cold bodied woman asked as the cheerful young man led her to an open room.
"You already saw her before.," Kojiro chirped, "She said she saw you when she went out to see the festival."
"Was she the pinkish haired pretty lady?," the icy woman asked.
"Right! She saw you and thought you looked really cute in your dress, she was right.," the shark like man answered. He let go of her hand and stood in front of her, "I must warn you of Manji. He'll probably try to touch you."
"Any other warnings you want to give?," (y/n) asked.
"Not really. Oh! Watch out for Mei and Ido, they are scary.," Kojiro answered, "But, you don't have to worry. We are all excited to welcome you!"
His smile was wide and happy. Just how used to be. He motioned for her to follow him again. He turned again to show his friend to the room. She was hidden behind him and heard the other people talking to Kojiro, asking where the new woman was. She heard Kojiro laugh a bit.
"She's right here!," Kojiro said and moved aside, not realizing that the icy woman moved with him.
"Where is she?," the voice of another man asked.
The blue haired shark like man looked behind him, "When did you get shy?"
The icy young woman looked at her friend before peeking out from behind her tall and muscular friend.
In the room, a tall tanned man in a fancy suit was sitting at a table with the pretty pink haired lady from before. They seemed to be drinking tea together. A teen with long yet choppy indigo hair was glaring at her from behind his glasses. A dark skinned and muscular young man with horns and a tail was grinning widely.
"Go on, it may not be everyone just yet, but you should introduce yourself.," Kojiro said and nudged her out from behind him.
The pale skinned young woman bowed, "I'm (y/n)... (y/n) Yukinohana.," the icy woman spoke, "Nice to meet you..."
The indigo haired teen scoffed and left the room.
The dark skinned male ran up to her, "I'm Manji! Kojiro is my best friend, we can be friends too!"
The blue and pink haired young woman took a step back after Manji ran up to her, wary of these new people. The air around her became colder as she became defensive.
"Manji, back up.," the gentleman in the suit told the teen.
He turned to face the young woman. He had a metal mask on his tan face, his long dark brown hair was tied back neatly. His left arm looked to be mechanical.
"My name is Fourth. It is nice to finally meet you after hearing about you for many years.," the gentleman greeted, "Your control over that ice was impressive."
The woman with him was wearing a fancy dress with feather accessories and a peacock like belt.
There was a big and warm smile on the woman's face, "I'm Kujaku. You are absolutely darling."
(Y/n) felt a cold sense of discomfort flow through her veins as she reached for Kojiro's hand, only to find Kojiro has already moved and was wandering to where he kept his favorite drink. (Y/n) felt uncomfortable with her surroundings for the first time in years. She had confidence at Nanba and Shiro at her old home. Frost covered her as she began to internally panic.
"Move, bitch.," She heard a gruff voice say, "Don't block the damn door."
The smell of cigarettes came to her nose as she hopped out of the way. Behind her was Mei. The maid dress wearing man had an irritated expression on his face as his brother looked apathetic. (Y/n) did not know what to do as she looked around the room. Kojiro and Manji were talking. So were Fourth and Kujaku. Mei and Ido were cleaning. The icy woman walked to the bookshelf and looked at the book selection. Many different books from different areas, time periods and subjects. The young woman picked one about plants and opened it to read.
'Qi mentioned he wanted to read this one.,' the young woman thought to herself and sat on the couch near the bookshelf. She wanted to go show Qi before she remembered that she was no longer in Nanba. She was far away from the ones she loved. She was far from Koisuke. Far from Hajime. From Musashi. From Jyugo. From all of them.
She flipped the page of the book to see a pretty flower. A snowflower. A flower that can only bloom in cold and harsh winter. Her two toned eyes looked at the picture of the flower. She looked to her frost covered hands and to the picture. Pulling moisture from the air, she formed a replica of the flower made entirely of ice. She heard a noise of amazement. (Y/n)'s eyes cast to where she heard the noise come from, Manji was right beside her. His eyes were transfixed on the ice flower that had just been created.
"That's so awesome! Can you make anything else?!," the horned teen leaned in closer, "Besides the icicles. You're not allowed to make them anymore."
His excitement and heat made the cold bodied woman uncomfortable.
"Those icicles you made were cool too! One hit the boss, some grazed the rest of us.," the teen kept talking even though he was getting a nasty glare from one of the maid dress wearing men.
The young woman clenched her hand on the ice flower as Manji leaned in even closer, his tail was wagging like a dog's. He smelled like a dog. The air temperature dropped. The icy flower shattered in her hand after she gripped it too hard, her blood dripped from her hand before the wounds were frozen shut by her rapidly dropping body temperature. The device on her back hummed violently, vibrating her bones. She wanted to lash out, but instead curled in on herself, quailing away from this over-enthusiastic teen. She did not know what these people could do really. They knew more about her than she did about them.
Her bloody ice formed into a shark, "As long as I know the form, I can make small ice sculptures."
Her voice was soft like falling snow, yet clear like ice on a winter's day.
"My body is naturally cold.," the blue and pink haired female spoke.
"Kojiro! Look at this!," Manji shouted and grabbed the shark from her hand and ran over to the shark like man.
Manji showed Kojiro but made a confused noise when he saw it was melting in his hands. Water and blood dripped onto the carpeted floor. Mei saw this and yelled at the horned young man for ruining the carpet.
'He's being blamed for a mess my blood and ice is making. Better clean it up.,' (y/n) thought to herself and got up, she used her power to call to moisture and blood back to her. Thankfully, very little pigment was left on the carpet. The icy woman took the melty shark sculpture from Manji before making it whole again.
Kojiro looked at the small statue, "That one is even better than the one you made before."
"Had some practice.," the young woman replied.
"See, you're okay, Yuki!," the shark like man smiled, "You fit right in with us."
"Although, I will ask you to refrain from using your abilities while we are having tea.," Kujaku spoke and turned her teacup upside down. The ice that used to be hot tea stuck inside of the ceramic cup.
"I'm sorry.," the icy woman spoke and held the sculpture close to herself, "I won't make it so cold anymore."
She noticed that Manji was shivering after she stood beside him for a bit, so she returned to the far side of the room, away from others so she could read and not disturb anyone. (Y/n) felt like she was back in school days, incredibly awkward from her power and not knowing anyone. Having Shiro, no, Kojiro, was much appreciated. But also having the knowledge that she had been torn from her home and put in this place by the one who has done terrible things to the inmates she used to look after and the family she lost.... it was mindbreaking. The blue and pink haired young woman kept quiet and watched the others of this team wander in and out of the room, talking and going about their days.
The doctor, Isou, made an appearance and talked to Kojiro for a bit before the shark like man pointed (y/n) out in the corner. The young woman was immediately defensive as the Chinese man walked closer to her, frost covered her hair and hands as if it was tying to shield her from the potential danger this man was to her.
He stopped before getting too close, "Don't use your power too much, your body is still getting used to the device's new capacity."
"Is that it?," The woman asked with a bland and emotionless tone.
"No. You need new clothing that suits your anatomy better than what you are currently wearing.," the doctor spoke as the young woman looked at the tank top and pants she had on.
"This is my uniform.," the icy young woman replied, "All my clothes are either at home or back at Nanba."
"Not those. You need a new wardrobe. One that best suits you.," the man said and turned to walk away without telling her what he meant.
The young woman's confused face followed him. Why did he even care what she wore? She flicked her middle finger to him as he had his back to her.
He stopped, "Oh yes. Almost forgot."
(Y/n) quickly put her finer down and looked back down at the book in her hands.
"You need to alert Mei and Ido to any food allergies you may have.," the doctor spoke, "We don't want to have you have an allergy attack."
His smile seemed kind, but it was plastic. The Chinese man walked away after that.
'Snake.,' the icy woman scoffed and gave him the finger again as he walked away. She let out a huff before settling into the couch. Blue and pink eyes looked over the room, observing all who were there. Kojiro seemed to be doing some handmade crafts with a smile on his face. Kujaku and Fourth had left. Manji was irritating the indigo haired teen again, this time a young blond man with spider legs on his forehead was with the teen. The horned young man was asking the two questions and pointed to the young lady excitedly.
Neither seemed keen on introductions. (Y/n) closed the book since she was finished with it. She stood and put the book away before looking for a new one to pique her interest. Her breath was a stream of cold and frosty air as she exhaled a sigh. The tapping sound of geta caught her ears and she looked behind her, the spider young man had approached.
"It is only polite if I introduced myself, I am Yakumo.," The young man spoke and bowed. He had a colorful outfit on.
"You already know me. I am (y/n).," the cold woman bowed back out of politeness. They both rose at the same time. Yakumo's spider legs accidentally brushed against (y/n)'s skin and twitched violently as a reaction to her chilly body temperature.
The choppy haired teen behind him sighed, "Isou told me to introduce myself, the name's Six. Don't think that I will be nice just because you're Kojiro's girlfriend, the damn idiot."
'Awfully vulgar.,' (y/n) thought to herself and gave him a small bow before he walked away, 'Is that everyone, or there someone else?'
(Y/n) watched as the two young men walked away before looking back to the bookcase, her mind swirled with the thoughts of escape and getting back to Nanba. She wanted to be back at Nanba. It was much, much more comfortable for her there. She needed not to tiptoe around, as to not disrupt anything. She heard Kojiro's name being called by a voice and the two talking before something heavy being dragged off. A hot hand placed itself on her shoulder, causing her to wince from pain and shock. The hand removed itself as the owner stepped back to avoid the attack the young woman lashed out. It was Ido.
His eyes looked down on her with indifference, "What are your food preferences?"
"Huh?," the icy woman was confused.
"Your food preferences and allergies.," Ido repeated, "We need to know how you eat."
(Y/n) hesitated before speaking, "Scallops, pineapples, capsaicin. Those are what my allergies are. I like different types of food as long as they are not spicy or hot temperature wise."
"So nothing spicy at all.," Ido noted and nodded, "Do you have any food that you are particularly fond of?"
The young woman nodded, "Green tea ice cream with Adzuki beans. Oh, I like grilled enoki mushrooms as well. I like a lot of good food."
The young woman could have sworn she saw him have a bit of a hopeful look before going back to blank, "Thank you."
He walked off without another word. The icy woman was still confused about why she was here and what purpose she was supposed to serve.
