There it was again, the vines that twisted her stomach, the flowers of concealed love blooming and begging to be let out. She ran out of the tavern, clutching her stomach in pain; leaning on a tree, she started to cough. Pink petals started to escape with every cough and soon enough, whole flowers, stem and all, started to descend to the ground.
She fell to her knees and leaned against the rough bark of the tree, another hurl of pink camellias dying to escape but this time they were tainted by a scarlet liquid. She sighed in disappointment. They could've been wonderful decorations, she thought, and coughed again. Another wave of pink camellias to hurl out, sure they were beautiful but they were painful. Both the meaning of the flowers and the pain they cause.
She was in love, and she hated it. Because the person she loved did not love her back, it was obvious. How the fairy and giant interacted with each other was enough proof that she wasn't getting any better. She wasn't part of the sins, nor was she a knight or a citizen of the fairy kingdom, she was human. No special abilities or anything, she just visited the tavern very often and befriended the sins. But mostly King, you were both fascinated of the same things, but when he laughed so cheerfully, you couldn't help but fall into a hopeless love. There was no chance for both of you, Diane and King had a past together but you? You didn't have that with him, you had just befriended him a month ago, both of you didn't share any hardships nor any important memories
Her condition had become severe, to the point where most of the flowers could close off all the airways in her body, to the point where blood escapes along with the flowers. She didn't have long but she couldn't just force the fairy to love her just because she was dying.
A sigh escaped her lips and she used the sleeve of her dress to wipe away any hints of blood around her mouth, she slowly stood up, using the tree as assistance.
To have another fit like this was because of the smile King had given her earlier, he was talking about Diane and couldn't help but smile. Each cheery tone, each smile, made the seeds of her concealed love bloom. She excused herself, ran out, slammed the door, and you know the rest.
Slowly walking back to the tavern, she composed herself in front of the wooden door and forced a smile. She turned the knob and slowly pushed it open, it wasn't too busy. Just a few people drinking, and King on the counter where you left him. Meliodas preparing his customers' orders and Elizabeth cleaning the tables, and Ban drinking on one of the tables. Meliodas had noticed your presence, stopped what he was doing and gave you a small grin out of the blue then continued what he was doing.
King had also noticed you and looked worried, "Where did you go?"
You forced out a chuckle, "had another coughing fit, sorry." You shrugged it off as you walked towards the fairy and sat on the stool next to him.
"Let's continue our conversation." You gave him a smile which he returned and you felt something in you flutter, or in your case, bloom. Both of you continued your conversation, flowers bloomed once in awhile whenever you two shared a smile or laugh but you endured how the vines wrapped itself around your lungs.
Meliodas and Ban were kind of worried for you and curious at the same time. The way you talk sometimes slowed down and your breathing was slowly getting faster, whenever they were close to you, they would pay attention to your rapidly beating heart. They had also grown suspicious of your coughing fits, except the oblivious King, they had become constant. Sure, they hadn't known you for long and were sure you had some kind of breathing problem but they felt like something bad was going to happen to you if you didn't let them help you.
The conversation went on until nighttime and when droplets of water fell down on to the earth. And you were pretty much in immense pain.
King yawned and tried to stay awake and keep the conversation going until he eventually fell asleep on the counter with a small smile on his face.
Elizabeth helped him to his room upstairs and went to the room she shared with the midget right after.
"Goodnight, King," you whispered as Elizabeth helped him up, a sweet smile embedded on your face. Your stomach was churning and it had become extremely difficult to breathe. "My cue to leave, see you again soon." You waved goodbye to Meliodas who was having a light conversation with Ban on one of the tables.
You stood up from the stool and began walking towards the exit. Meliodas moved swiftly and blocked your exit.
"It's raining, (Y/n)," the midget said, emphasizing your name. Panic started to cloud your mind, something was bubbling up in your throat and it sure as hell wasn't just a cough.
"I-It's not a big deal." You laughed it off nervously.
"Your cough might get worse," he responded, crossing his arms. Meliodas looked behind me as if to make sure someone was there and there sure was; Ban.
Your breathing had started to become erratic and beads of sweat were now sliding down your cheeks.
"Please..move away for a bit," you let out, knees becoming heavy. You covered your mouth with your hand to slightly stop what was coming.
What was inside your throat started to rise so you immediately pushed Meliodas (who wasn't really using his strength to stop you) out of the way and opened the door hastily. You ran towards a tree as Ban and Meliodas followed.
You could feel drops of water landing on your hair and back as you leaned on a tree and began to cough. The flowers, petals came along with the coughs and so did blood. It fell to the ground and were watered by the rain as blood mixed along with it.
Ban and Meliodas watched with both curiosity and shock. It was quite a sight, a bad one. Just you coughing out blood, flowers and petals in the rain while feeling unbearable pain as the stems of the flower you tried to cough out started to mildly tear at your throat.
You paused for a while and slowly started to try and calm your breathing. Slight blood stains on your dress and more on your hand but the rain washed them away. More tiny scarlet splutters at the corners of your mouth and a small petal that stuck to it.
"(Y-Y/n)..." Ban shakily held out his hand. He was pretty shocked, sure he's seen more horrendous things but your situation was both brutal and beautiful.
You let out a light chuckle and tried to smile.
"Will Elizabeth be able to heal something like this, Cap'n? Ban turned to his friend who shook his head with regret.
"It's a curse created from the ruler of the goddess clan. It's not something Elizabeth can do with her status in the goddess clan," Meliodas explained, glancing down at the puddle of blood and water drowning the flowers.
"You don't have to worry about me, this is my fault," you spoke, your voice shaky. But you forced out a smile. "I'm the one who fell in love."
