We arrived in Gombe at 4:00 in the evening by that time I was wide awake and alive.the town was buzzing with people buying, selling, gisting, laughing etc.
I can say that the state is lively and lovely.we passed the rainbow round about and into town we drove.

At the bus stop,we offloaded our luggage,took a cab and we were taken to an area called pantami.
That's the place where my uncle and his family live.hmmmmm
What an area.

There were children everywhere,
Every angle playing with sand, playing with water, some were even playing in gutters.

Okay uncle is it that this children don't have parents or what?I asked.they have parents he answered.just that their parents are too busy to take care of them.
I mean their parents don't have their time.
Hmmmmmmmmm but why will they give birth to children when they know that they can't take care of them.my uncle just looked at me and replied.
Nana,not everybody is like you,
Not everybody thinks like you,
Sometimes if you see something,the best you can do is to just shut up.

I understand what he meant
I don't have to talk about everything I see.let my eyes do the job and let my mouth be kind enough to keep shut.the truth is I can't keep quiet but I will try.

I was so deep in my thoughts that I didn't notice that my uncle was far ahead of me.i began to hasten up when I felt something cold on my clothe.it wasn't sweat,I didn't urinate one my body,I was still thinking of where the water came from when another splash of dirty water came landing right on my face.okayyyyyyy aha the demon has touched the devil.i dropped my bag and every other thing I was holding.

The boy was right there looking at me with a devilish smile of accomplishment on his face.
He made to run but he didn't know that I was a good athlete back then is school.you are playing with fire I said as I followed him he wasn't even up to five good steps when I caught him.he was like Aunty I won't do it again and I was like I know you won't do it again but not until I spank your bum bum with my slippers.he cried and cried and cried but nobody came to his rescue.

I stood there and watched him until I felt pity for him.i took out the biscuit I bought at the bus stop and gave it to him.bakam
he stopped crying I started laughing to myself .I have pressed his mumu button.
Children of now our days lack training.next time you won't poor dirty water on strangers.
Not especially Nana because i will deal with you in particular.
What is your Name I asked the little boy..........he didn't answer

Yes he said as he stood up and started running to God knows where.

I wasn't bothered about getting lost because I saw my uncle get into a house just nearby.i knew we have reached our destination but I didn't get inside until I settled what I had to settle.

I grabbed my bag and went straight through the door I saw my uncle get into.
Nana you can't just stop and beat anybody's child on the way I heard my uncle say.
I would not have beaten him if he didn't pour water on me for the second time I replied.
I understand that you don't like disrespect but this is not your village.you might get into a fight one day don't repeat that again.my uncle said.okay am sorry I replied.

I'll be going out.my wife has gone to work. Your cousins are out I think they have gone to fetch water.take your things inside
You are going to share a room with the girls because we don't have enough rooms.make sure you feel at home.......

Uncle was still talking when we heard people's footsteps as they walked in.they stopped in their tracks when they saw me.two beautiful girls standing and sending daggers at me.

You can go drop the buckets off your heads when you're done starring my uncle said to the two girls.as if being reminded they dropped their buckets turned to us

Welcome dad they both chorused.
How are you doing he asked.we are fine they replied.
This is Nana and she is staying with us he introduced.

Hi the taller girl which I suspect to be the eldest said I am Lisa and this is my sister Juliana.

As soon as their father left
Juliana hissed hitting me as as she mummured going into the room more mouth to feed
she said out loud for me to hear.

Don't mind Juliana Lisa said.lets get your stuff inside first.
Ok emmmmmmmmm let me show you around before you get settled........

Lisa took me around the house showing me the bathroom, kitchen,store and every other place she thought I am supposed to know.

Your house is nice and portable
Thanks for being friendly I said to her.its nothing she replied.we are cousins.she kept stealing glances at me not knowing that I took note of that.

There was long silence
All of a sudden Lisa jumped to her feet scaring the hell out of me.
What is it,? I asked in shock and fear.
She started laughing and laughing until I joined her even when I don't know what she is laughing at.......ok what is it I asked again.you are funny she replied.funny......how.
Never mind.i know that you know that I have been stealing glances at you.she stated.
What about the stare I asked still laughing.

She turned around for a while then back to me.
If I were a boy....... she started to sing.

Then she would have a crush on you Juliana answered making us notice her presence in the room.

I thought she would never talk to me I whispered.
Just because I talk to you doesn't mean I like you.
I don't like your presence in our house.just let this stick to your head she said to me as she stormed out of the room.

I took a deep breath and lay my head on the soft pillow that was on the bed we were sitting on.
Her words kept ringing in my head.
Ohhh Nana if only you stayed home none of this would have happened to you.
This girl has indeed given me a food for thought.
