James POV.

That night,I drove to Jessica's house because she called and told me to come urgently.
Jessica is my girlfriend.
We have been together since secondary School and I love her so much.

Somehow, when we were still yet in the university,she got pregnant and broke the news to everyone that I was responsible.

I couldn't deny it,we had something intimate, something real, something true.
Jessica is the only girl I have ever felt a real thing for.

Jessica had to drop out of school because......... because of me,
I mean because of the pregnancy
Because of our baby.
I totally avoided the issue of abortion that's murder I told her many times and that's when she finally agreed to keep the baby.

I on the other hand promised to support her and do anything a father would possibly do for his wife and child.

I kept to my promise.
I am always there for Jessica and the child
When she calls early in the morning, noon or night,I'll always be here for her and my son.

They sometimes come over to my home to spend the weekend or holidays.

It's exactly been a year now since I graduated.we had the baby when I was in two hundred level.
What love can do.

I studied chemical engineering,
Not long ago I was done with my youth service,now am fully back home and helping my Dad do this stuff,that stuff, representing him here and there, embarking on business meetings etc.

I hardly even have time for myself.my Dad wants me to take over his company in Lagos.
He says he is getting old and wants some one to take over from him.

I was lying down on the couch in the living room when my phone started ringing I was so busy doing a presentation on my laptop that I didn't notice when the phone stopped ringing.

Few minutes passed and then it started ringing again.
I took it from where it was lying
and looked at the screen.
I started smiling.
It read ....pumpkin.
Jessica was the one calling.
I somehow named her pumpkin because she has plump cheeks and she loves crying over little issues.

Hey babe I answered when I picked.
Hey James .....James  can you hear me sweetheart,she said from the other side of the phone.
Yes yes I can hear you clearly what's up... what's wrong you sound strange.
Boo my love you need to come over to my place now.
Please don't waste time I have something to tell you she answered.
Are you sure you're doing okay,has anything happened to Silver,.....I asked.

She hung up before I even said anything.

I was so confused,I just shut the laptop, took my shirt that was lying on the floor,took my car keys, and went straight to my car.

I drove so roughly and fast
I didn't even notice if there were other vehicles on the road
Just want to see the love of my life and make sure she is doing okay.

Soon enough,I arrived Jessica's residence then straight to the door I walked,I would have just walked in but seemed like she had company.
I knocked on the door and immediately the door flipped open.  

Hey babe she said welcoming me with hug.
Hey pretty how are you I said giving her a peg on the cheek
I am fine come in she motioned.

I slowly walked in with my eyes stuck on her.
She had a very sad face on
Something must be wrong somewhere because I was beginning to get worried too.

I saw a young man sitting on the couch when I got in.
I sat on the couch opposite to him.
I refused to say anything to him because of the way he was sending daggers at me with his eyes.

Okay what's going on here and who is this guy?I broke the silence.

James this is ........emm
This is .....this is.

Talk now when did you start stammering I shouted at her because I was running out of patience.

James this is Fred
Fred,this is James.
She said.

Hello Fred I said to the young
Man who looked my age.
Hi he replied to me.

Jessica was beginning to cry where she was standing.
I stood up and went to her.
Hey pumpkin why are you crying what's wrong?

Jessica you need to tell him.
He deserves to know,he has to know that you have been lying and deceiving him all this years.
If you can't tell him,I'll tell him myself.i heard Fred say.

Babe what's he talking about? can someone tell me what the hell is going on here?
Jessica talk to me.

Am sorry James I wanted to tell you but I was scared and by the time I found that I was pregnant,I and Fred had broken up I tried reaching him but I couldn't.we broke up because he also found out that you were dating me he completely refused the pregnancy because he wasn't sure he was the father so I had no choice than to turn it on you..

So what's he doing here after denying that he is not the father?
He is here for the child.
He is here for his son.
He threatened to go tell you himself but I told him not to because you wouldn't believe him.
I wanted to tell you myself.

I stood there speechless with bitterness burning in me.
I felt ashamed of myself,I felt like breaking bottles,I felt like killing some one.
The only girl I love.....the only woman I ever wanted to be with
Tears began rolling down my cheek but I cleaned it off immediately with my hands.
  

Jessica,I said as I helped her back to her feet.
She couldn't even look me in the eye.
Jessica look at me.
She looked at me with tears still rolling down her cheek.
I began to feel sorry for her not because I love her but because all I felt at that time was hatred towards her.

Jessica am sorry to announce to you that it's over between us.

I said it's over.
Please James am sorry she cried as she reached for my hands but I shoved her off..
Don't touch me you are disgusting I shouted at her as I walked to the door.

Please James don't leave me
I know I made a mistake
it's just a mistake everybody makes mistakes she said.

Really...... you making me believe that the child was mine was mistake, you making me spend money and time on you and silver was a mistake, you making have sleepless nights was a mistake, you lying to me all this while was a mistake.

You are heartless Jessica...how would you feel if someone did this to you...how.
This is indeed a breaking news.

I stormed out and went straight to my car, turned on the ignition and sped my way out of the area.
All I want to do right now is to get drunk and go to bed.
I can't take it.
I was so engrossed in my thoughts that I didn't notice the young lady running across the road.
Before I took note, the girl was already hit by the car I was driving.
I can't stop....I can't stop I told myself so I didn't stop instead I increased the speed of the car and fled for my dear life.
I pray the girl I crashed into will find a place in her heart to forgive me.

Tears began rolling down my cheeks.
I want to cry.......
I am crying but I want to cry really hard.i want to srceam my lungs out.

I got home and as soon as I went in,I started destroying and breaking every breakable thing I saw.

Hey biggie shouted my younger ones as they ran across me holding me tight..
Calm down bro my sister said as they made me sit down.

What wrong, what happened
Bro please say something my sister cried.

I'll tell you when I return I said as I grabbed my car keys once again.
I can't allow that lady to just die.
I have to go look for her
I have to pay her hospital bills if she is still alive.
God help me I pray she is alive I prayed as I drove out of the compound.
