I walked as always in my territory as my parents told me I should do this every day three times. Everything seemed normal; no strange smells, the birds singing their morning song, no extraordinary activities.
Suddenly the ground under my paths became softer and the air smelled fresher, like after the rain. I was a bit confused, is that still my territory? Yes, it was, I could smell de mark on the tree, which belongs to my father. As I went deeper, I saw a hole in the stone wall. Not a normal hole, I think. Because two seconds before, I was sure it wasn't there. Anyways, I had to get a look, it may be something dangerous. I went forward and through the hole. It was going deeper and deeper, it was like night, but I didn't really feel uncomfortable.
After a while I saw light in front of me. As soon as my eyes could see again, I was astonished, what I saw.
It was beautiful. Like a whole new world, just some steps away from my home. There were things I never saw before, like these ridiculous flowers. They were some giant in rainbow colors and also very tiny all in black. Behind me I heard strange noises, like wing beats, but with the sound of a melody. I winced and turned around.
The sound turned out to be a swarm of creatures flying quickly overhead. They were beautiful too, they didn't have feathers as expected, but fur, and yet they could fly. They were so fast themselves that they didn't even notice me. When I thought about it like that, I saw that I stood out like a black sheep in this world. Everything was special except me. A disturbing spot in this world.
"Hello you over there."
I turned around, startled, and saw a kind of fox. Not one like me, no, she had 9 tails and was also dazzlingly beautiful. Pure white, she was, but with extraordinary orange eyes. They shone like fire. Dangerous, but magnetic.
"Don't be afraid, I mean you no harm. No one wants this. We despise violence here. I suppose it all seems strange to you," she spoke softly. "Y... yes, it does," I replied shyly. "I didn't mean to barge in and disturb you, I'm sorry, I'll leave right now," I continued hastily. "No, wait, you're not disturbing us at all. I am a Kitsune and my name is Fenyra, what is yours?" the vixen quickly retorted. "I don't have one, I suppose. What is a name anyway?", I replied. Fenyra looked surprised, but replied, "With us, we get our name when we are old enough to show our character. Through that we then get our name. Mine isn't really based on my character, I come from a royal family, I'm something of a goddess here, as you would say in your world." My eyes widened. I thought again that really everyone, in my world and in everyone else is special, but I have nothing.
"Why do you look so sad? What's running through your head?" Fenyra tilted her head. "Well," I replied, "you are a goddess, this world and its inhabitants is extraordinary, my father is the strongest fox of them all, my mother the most beautiful, even my friends and siblings have something special, but what do I have to show? Nothing. I am a mistake of nature."
Fenyra's eyes apruptly began to glow stronger and seemed to spark. "Don't you dare judge yourself like that. In every being there is something that makes him, whether good or evil. When the Anbasada birds announced your arrival, I knew you were special. For no one finds the entrance to our world just like that."
I thought about it and thought she was right. Surprisingly I felt a kind of shadow fall from my soul. I felt freer. I tilted my head and wondered if Fenyra had this effect. The answer to that remained a mystery forever. The Kitsune smiled and asked, "I wonder if you might like to stay with us, I think you would like it here." I thought about the offer, but finally replied, "That would be very nice, but I think my parents are already worried and my friends and siblings need me." Fenyra nodded. "So be it. But you will always be welcome here, no matter when. We will welcome you with joy. Always. ". I bowed my head reverently and slowly made my way back home.
"Aimi, that would be your name," I heard Fenyra whisper softly to me. I didn't have to ask what the name meant, the word echoed in my head as I left this beautiful world happy and light as a feather.
Love.
