A day like any other. I checked on all the residents, visited the old but not to be underestimated rabbit Quinn, brought the bears their beloved honey from the chimney bees.
A few minutes later, the Anbasada birds came to me and said: "Young fox. From other side. Purity. No harm," I nodded. The birds were very taciturn but did their job flawlessly. Delivering messages. Shortly after, the announced guest also arrived, and I approached the young vixen.
"Hello you over there." Startled, she turned and froze when she saw me. I could tell she wasn't entirely comfortable.
"Don't be afraid, I mean you no harm. No one wants that. We despise violence here. I suppose it all seems strange to you," I said quietly, trying not to seem threatening as much as possible. She was so young; she shouldn't experience so much fear.
"Y...Yes, it does," she replied, pawing the ground nervously. "I didn't mean to barge in and disturb you, I'm sorry, I'll leave right now," she said quickly. "No, wait, you're not disturbing us at all. I'm a Kitsune and my name is Fenyra, what's yours?", I quickly retorted. She has too little confidence, she shouldn't be walking just yet. I would like to help her.
"I don't have one, I suppose. What is a name anyway?" she asked. This surprised me for a moment, but I managed to remember that in their world there were no definite names. When they called each other, they simply did so by making special sounds. "In our world, you get your name when you are old enough to show your character. That's how we get our name then. Mine is not really based on my character, I come from a royal family, I am something of a goddess here, as you would say in your world," I explained patiently to the vixen. She got wide-eyed, but then her look became saddened. I could imagine what she was thinking about, but I wanted to let her talk for herself.
"Why do you look so sad? What's going through your mind?".
"Well," she replied, "you are a goddess, this world and its inhabitants are extraordinary, my father is the strongest fox of them all, my mother the most beautiful, even my friends and siblings have something special, but what do I have to show for it? Nothing. I am a mistake of nature." I was getting angry. Why did she think of herself like that? I don't doubt that her parents look kindly on her, but she is too busy caring for others that she stops thinking about herself. And when she does have time, not so nice thoughts come.
"Don't you dare judge yourself like that. There is something in every being that makes it, good or bad. When the Anbasada birds announced your arrival, I knew you were special. For no one finds entrance to our world just like that." I could see it was working her head. In addition, I gave some of my magic to free her soul a little. She looked at me thoughtfully and tilted her head. I smiled and asked, "I wonder if you might like to stay with us, I think you would like it here." But even before she answered, I knew the answer.
"That would be very nice, but I think my parents are already worried and my friends and siblings need me." I nodded. "So be it. But you will always be welcome here, no matter when. We will welcome you with joy. Always. " The young vixen bowed and started on her way back. "Aimi, that’s your name," I whispered in farewell. We will meet again, my love.
