Seokjin pt. 1
Seokjin was enjoying his dinner and just when he was about to put a gulab jamun in his mouth, a light flashed in front of his face which made him squint his eyes.
"Mai dulha dikh raha hu tujhe?"
("Do I look like i'm the groom here?")
The photographer shook his head to deny.
"To dulhe ka baap dikh raha hu?"
("Or do I look like the groom's father?")
He shook his head again.
"Fir pichle 15 minute se meri hi photo kyu kheench raha hai?"
("Then why're you clicking my picture for the past 15 minutes?")
Seokjin was very frustrated. He just wanted to enjoy his food peacefully. Even though peace was impossible in this atmosphere, it didn't matter until he was alone. Even though there was no place for him to sit anymore and he had to eat his food standing next to an ice sculpture, it didn't matter coz the food was delicious.
"Sorry bhaiya," the photographer apologized and left to capture other people who were trying to enjoy their food.
A few minutes later, when he tore a piece of his naan bred and dipped it in shaahi paneer, another voice interrupted him, "Excuse me?"
The pitch of this voice allowed his conscience to control his frustration. He must remain civil with the ladies. He's still single. He paused and breathed before looking up from his plate. "Yes," he replied with a polite smile.
"I'm sorry to disturb you but..." the woman in lehenga, who had interrupted him a few seconds ago, spoke. Seokjin's brows furrowed as he looked at her face. It looked familiar to him.
"Have we met before?" She asked.
His eyes widened when he recalled and an honest smile appeared on his face. "B.I.T. civil?" He asked and she immediately nodded. She opened her mouth, trying to say something as she recalled. "I know you used to be on stage almost every event but I can't recall your name," she smiled sheepishly.
"Seokjin."
"Seokjin, yes-
"but everyone called me jin,"
"Right! how could I forget?" She facepalmed and laughed. "So are you related to the bride or a friend of someone who's related to the bride?" She asked, curiosity vivid in her eyes, "i'm sorry, I'm just really surprised to see you here," she added with an embarrassed laugh.
Jin chuckled and replied, "no, actually, Ladke waalon ki taraf se hoon."
("I'm from the groom's side")
She raised her brows and paused as she burst into an astonished smile, "what a coincidence," she said.
"I'm not related to him, though," he scratched the back of his head awkwardly, "he's my boss's son. She really wanted me to meet some clients at his reception... you know how it is," he added.
"Ah, makes sense," she spoke, passing an understanding nod, "business minds work 24/7," she joked.
"it is what it is," he shrugged. Curious about her presence himself, he asked if she was related to the groom. "Yeah, he's my cousin," she responded with a smile.
One thing everyone's supposed to do at events like these, smile and laugh to be polite. You never know who you might offend.
"Well, it was a pleasure to meet you, jin," she brought her hand forward to shake his hand, "By the way, I'm-
"Y/n?"
"Yep. You remember."
"I'm sure most people do."
She laughed.
"Nice to meet you too, miss popular," he said with a smile making her snicker at the comment.
"The unnecessary attention, I swear," she chuckled.
"really? Made me think you were asking for it."
"No way," she guffawed.
"Seriously, then what were you an all-rounder for?" He joked.
She shrugged her shoulders, "probably for my resumé," she replied.
She noticed the plate in his hand. She asked if the food was good and he replied honestly. She apologized for interrupting him and making things weird while he was eating. "Oh no, it's totally okay-
"AREY!"
Another interruption.
A lady appeared next to y/n. She was clearly about to scold her but stopped once she noticed Jin.
"Mumma, ye Seokjin hai. college me thha mere," y/n introduced him. Jin joined his hands together in a namaste to greet the old lady.
("Mom, he's Seokjin. He was in my college.")
A motherly smile appeared on the lady's face as she replied with a "namaste beta." She looked at him from his face to his shoe, probably amazed by his physique.
"Bua-ji ki company me kaam karta hai abhi," y/n explained to her mother to which she responded with a nod, "achha," she said as her smile grew bigger.
("He works in bua's company" || bua = dad's sister || "achha" = oh/okay/I see)
"Beta, ghar aana kabhi khaana khaane," her mother just played her usual desi mom card.
("Son, come home for dinner someday")
Jin got awkward and faked a bunch of smiles. "Ji," was all he managed to say.
("Sure" -[formal])
"Arey, y/n," she grabbed her arm and looked at her enthusiastically, "dinner pe bulao na apne dost ko kal," she told her daughter and looked at Jin.
His eyes grew bigger and he laughed politely declining the offer. "Meri flight hai, aunty, yaha kaam se aaya thha kuchh dino ke liye"
"Raat me hai flight?"
"Hanji, 8 baje"
"To nashte pe aajao beta, achha lagega Hume."
His eyes landed on y/n, who passed him an embarrassed smile. She mouthed a 'sorry,' totally empathizing with his predicament.
"Subah thhoda busy hoon, Aunty, meeting hai ek... par aap takleef mat lijiye mai hotel me kha loonga"
"Arey, beta, hotel waale itna tel namak daalte hai. Fir aap y/n ke dost ho itne door se aaye ho, humara farz banta hai aapki seva karna. Thhak jaate hoge aap kaam karte karte, batao, Lunch me aa sakte ho?"
Jin laughed shyly. He forced a polite smile. "Ji," he said.
A satisfying smile appeared on the lady's face as her eyes beamed with happiness. "Kal milte hai fir, beta, abhi mai chalti hu itna kaam hai," she passed a smile and looked at her daughter, "is ladki ko to kuchh karna hai nahi," she glared at her, switched to a smile when her eyes landed on jin, and left.
Y/n crossed her arms around herself and pursed her lips. "Sorry about that," she said.
"I'm gonna get free food," he grinned smugly and joked.
