The rain was pouring outside onto the city and the power was out. His phone was laying silently by his side as he laid on his bed, staring up at the ceiling. That's how Natsu had been for the past few days. Starring at nothing and feeling nothing but a heaviness on his chest.
Bleeding Love was playing through a broken heart playlist on Spotify. He replayed his conversation with Lisanna, a childhood friend, from earlier that day. She was trying to cheer him up by bringing him to a barbecue place down the street from his apartment. But after getting annoyed with him about being depressed, she accidentally told him that Lucy had moved on and was dating a bartender from the opposite side of town.
It had been hours since that conversation but he still felt the same has he had that afternoon. He turned over to his side and remembered a conversation between him a Gray.
"Embrace being single!" He had said. Natsu shook his head and finished off a plate of buffalo chicken tenders. "It'll make things easier."
"I know."
"Then why are you still depressed?"
"Oi, don't just ask someone that."
"Whatever, flame breath," Gray took one of his fries and tried to get a waitress's attention.
Natsu figured it wouldn't hurt to try to act like a single man. He was one after all. He turned off his phone and slid it into his pocket. He walked out of his room and towards the entrance to his apartment. He stepped over dirty clothes and beer cans as he reached for his old denim jacket. As he tied a pair of Nike tennis shoes on and slid an old beanie onto his head. He left his apartment and headed down the stairs.
The first place he stopped at was an old Denny's. He was seated at a both that was at the end of a row going down the middle of the restaurant. A waitress took his order and questioned him when he requested the entire meat section of the menu. When he snapped at her she headed towards the counter. Natsu fiddled with a napkin as a couple a few seats ahead began whisper. He looked up at the couple. The man was was dressed in faded denim and half his head was shaved down, the other half was covered in curled, neon green locks. He was seated next to a woman who was dressed in black, her hair matched her leather coat. Her skin however, was pale. The man whispered words into her ear.
Her features didn't quite register in Natsu's mind. He saw her as a blonde, dressed in a pink tank top with chocolate brown eyes and the smile of an angel. The woman starred at him for a moment. He realized that it wasn't Lucy and turned back to the napkin. The waitress came minutes later, with a tray full of various food items, all of which contained meat. He thanked her and ate. He couldn't eat as fast as he could before. He ended up eating less than of what he ordered. He payed his bill and left a tip before leaving the restaurant.
As he stood from the booth he caught the eyes of the girl across from him. Again, he saw her as Lucy. She turned away from him and scrolled through her phone. As he stepped away, he caught a glimpse of a photo of Lucy. The caption read, girl's night! :p, with different hashtags following afterwards. He sighed and left the restaurant.
After he left the restaurant, all he could hear was Lucy's voice. Not her normal voice, her seductive voice. The one she used to get him into bed and the one she used on just about a weekly basis. Or, used to use. He could hear her voice and feel her soft flesh in the palms of his hands. He could close his eyes and see her, laying underneath him.
He could picture her body, laying on top of his bed, looking like a goddess. With her hair stuck to her neck, blood rushing through her cheeks, and her lips a darker shade of red due to harsh kisses. That's how it was at first, until his imagination went wild and it wasn't him lying on top of her, but another man.
It was a stranger who was able to get her to look that way, not him. A different man, with different ideas in mind. Who knew what the man would do? The worst would be to treat her like a toy. To force her into things she didn't want to do. To treat her like she was nothing.
He shook his head. He had to stop imagining things otherwise he would most likely go out on a rampage and break into her apartment. He needed a drink. He didn't need to think about it, he needed one. He walked quickly down the wet sidewalk and read the signs up on the buildings. He knew there was a bar near by.
The bar was at least 15 degrees warmer inside than out. It was dark but was lit with purple, pink, and blue neon lights. Men were either seated at the bar or around a stage, clapping and cheering. Woman dressed in lingerie were standing on the stage, one was on a pole. Natsu took a seat at the bar and ordered a drink.
And another drink.
Then another one.
On his fourth he asked for the bottle to be left behind.
After a few more drinks he decided he wouldn't need the glass cup he was originally given.
The bottle was half empty when he found a karaoke machine on the other side of the room. He left the bottle on the counter and walked over. The machine was open so he picked up the microphone and began scrolling through the song list. He chose the song, "Somebody else," and began singing.
At first everyone tried ignoring him. But he continued singing even after the song was over. And during each song, he seemed to get louder and cause more of a raucous. Men at the bar were shouting at him to stop. Eventually, someone pulled him away from the machine and towards the bar. That someone was a woman. A brunette. She was tall and thin, dressed in a fitted, long sleeved, black crop top and a matching mini skirt. Her leather boots went up just above her knees.
She sat next to him at the bar, crossing one leg over the other. "Hey," she said. It was low and quiet, but she sat close enough for him to hear her.
"Hi," he said as the bar tender handed him a bottle of Coke.
"You gotta name?"
"Natsu,"
"Oh, Natsu! Means, "summer," right?"
"Yeah,"
"Summer. . . Hottest season of the year. Is there any connection?" She asked with a smirk on her face. Natsu rolled his eyes.
"If you're trying to get with me, it isn't working," Natsu said. He turned his attention to the platinum blonde dancing on the pole. He didn't notice the woman pull a packet of white powder from inside her shirt. She quickly poured the powder in and stirred it with the straw before Natsu turned around. He took a sip but didn't notice the change in flavor.

"The hell are you doing?!" The manager shouted. He opened the janitor's closet to find a couple having sex. Natsu was laying on the floor, his arms were spread out across the ground. The woman was sitting on top of him. Her shirt was pushed up over her breasts, Natsu's was unbutton, exposing his torso. The woman giggled as she tried to pull her shirt back down.
"Just having a little fun?"
"Can you do it somewhere else?" The manager asked. Natsu stood and left before the woman could reply. He left feeling disgusted and disappointed in himself. It was the time of night where the streets were almost empty and the only lights that were on were street lights. He took the long way back to his apartment, the way that crossed a parking garage and the abandoned wear house.
Half way home, he was stopped by a few men dressed in baggy jeans and loose fitting shirts. They asked him multiple questions.
"Where are you going?"
"Do you got any cash?"
"You got a phone on yah?" All these questions seemed to be asked at once. He must've taken too long to answer because before he could speak, one man punched the side of his face. Natsu fell to the ground and was met with hard cement and a harsh kick to his abdomen. Followed by another kick. His vision was blurred, he couldn't make out the faces of the men beating him. He couldn't fight back. Wherever he aimed his fist, he would hit air. The men stopped as they heard sirens coming down the street. They ran away as soon as they could.
He turned to the direction of the sirens. There were no emergency vehicles. Just someone blaring police sirens through their phone. They walked over and helped him to his feet. When they knelt down he was able to make out their face.
Lucy wrapped her arm around him and pulled him up. "Are you okay?"
"No, I'm a disaster," he told her. Lucy didn't respond and walked him down the sidewalk. She didn't want to admit it, but she had been a mess, too. He wasn't able to understand what Lucy was shouting at the group fleeing the scene, he vaguely heard her ask about where he would be staying.
"Not tonight, I'm drunk."Lucy let out a soft chuckle.
"Are you comfortable staying at my place tonight?" She asked him. He nodded, his head lulling back as she helped him onto his feet.
Whatever their relationship was or would end up being, for now he was grateful that she could take care of him for another night.

Author's note:
This was inspired by the song Somebody Else by The 1975 (aka my favorite band). I decided to start writing one shots because of how popular my larger stories have become. I tend to get tired of larger stories so I thought, "well why not short ones instead?"
I hope you enjoyed this and others that will follow!
Until I write again,
