Natsu

She wouldn't take her foot off the gas, which normally wouldn't bother me expect that this was Lucy and she never went above the speed limit (unless it was a life or death situation). Luckily, no one was out on the country roads. It was winter, Christmas Eve, everyone was at home with their family for Christmas. I usually stayed at Fairy Tail, due to the fact I had no family to go home to, but this year was different.

Ever since Lucy's mother was killed, she'd been on the hunt for The Dark Lord, Zeref, who had sent the vampires to the nursery where her mother was killed and where she became a vampire. This, tonight, was her last chance to get a lead on where he was, and it was another fail. I gave her the lead. I left the academy to go to her family's estate to tell her. But showing up was awkward.

I ran her doorbell and expected a servant to open the door, but she did. And seeing her in anything other than the school uniform was a sight for sore eyes. She wasn't in the school issued skirt and blazer, but skinny jeans. I'd only ever seen her in a skirt but the jeans. I couldn't stop staring and she had to snap her fingers in front of my face to get my attention. Which didn't do much because she was also wearing a low cut sweater.

Now, she had finally stopped the car and stepped outside. She slammed the car door shut and ran into a forest just off the side of the road as she pulled her wand out of her leather boot.

Lucy

"Let it burn!" I casted. I pointed my wand towards a snow covered tree that had fallen over. The tree bursted into flames as I casted the same spell on a second tree. Natsu was coming in behind me, shouting at me.

"Are you insane? You're flammable, Lucy! Remember?!"

"Shut up, Natsu!!" I shouted back at him. This was it. I was done. I couldn't put myself through this any longer. I'm a monster. My mother did everything she could to limit the number of vampires on this planet and killed herself as soon as she became one. She would've killed Lucy if she had lived. This is something the blonde mage should've done years ago.

The flames were closing in on them, trapping them in heat and warm mud. Natsu tried his best to take the flames out, but he sucked at water magic. He ended up adding more flames into the situation. "Lucy, you need to end this!" I could barely hear him, I was focused on the rosary around his neck. He bought it during our second year, when Gray Fullbuster discovered I was a vampire and convinced Natsu that I would kill him. He says he's not afraid of me, but he won't get rid of the cross.

"Lucy, please stop this!"

"What? Are you afraid you'll get killed? Just use up, up, and away and fly out of here!" I practically screamed at him.

"Luce, please!! You're scaring me!"

"Like I have been for six years?"

"For three months five years ago! And no, I'm worried you're actually going to kill yourself!"

"Oh? What gave you that impression?"

"Now's not the time for this!" He was standing in front me now, dangerously close. I could practically feel the cross around his neck wanting to burn me. Or the flames. Either way, I knew I would burn. This is how I'm destined to go. I pushed him aside and tried to run away, but the space that now surrounded us was getting smaller.

"Will you just leave? Fly off! You're the chosen one! Remember? The world needs you more than it needs me!"

"Lucy, I think you're forgetting something." I turn to him. He's got a worried look on his face but it's mixed with something I know all too well. He has a plan.

"And what would that be?" I asked him. He wasn't leaving. He was just walking towards me. He took my hand and pulled me closer to him.

"If I can't have you, the world can't have me."

"What?" Then he kissed me. This was it. I was kissing Natsu Dragneel.

I was going to die kissing Natsu.

Natsu was going to die kissing me.

I brought my wand up and lowered the flames. Natsu will die kissing me. Just not tonight.

This was shorter than the other one (by a thousand words?!?!?!) but I hope that's okay.

If you were confused, Carry On is an LGBT+ novel by the wonderful Rainbow Rowell about wizard school mentioned in her story Fangirl. Carry On is about Simon Snow and his final year at Watford and basically how he ends up falling in love with his nemesis, Baz Pitch (who's been in love with Simon since he was 12). It's not my favorite Rainbow Rowell story but it's her most popular.
