CHAPTER 3
"Sultanim, Grand Vizier Kemankes Mustafa Pasha asked for your presence in the Summer Gardens," Haci-aga entered my chambers and made me wonder why would Kemankes ask to meet me. I had never an opportunity before to meet him but only thing I knew was that he is so loyal to my mother and does whatever she asks from him and if she would wish the whole world he would do that to her how loyal he is and he doesn't want to lose his head.
"What is it about?" I asked but Haci just shrugged and I got up and went to the Summer Gardens. For the whole way there I was really wondering what was it and I knew my mother had her fingers in it.
She obviously was suspicious about the death of my husband and wanted to make sure if I did something. It was because she knew me too well and what she could expect from a daughter which is characteristically very similar to her and what am I ready to do she would be ready to do so and she did even worse things than me.
"Sultanim," Kemankes said as he bowed to me and I saw he is giving his all not to look at me as he shouldn't but he still looked because he wondered who I am since my mother obviously told him a lot about me. He had so cold voice and he was so mysterious at the first sight unlike everyone other who served my mother who were old pashas without any character who would just listen to her orders.
"Pasha, you called for me to ask me if I am the one who killed my husband?" I asked him in a sarcastic tone on which he just replied to me with a smirk because we both know my mother insisted on this talk and she thought I would do something like that.
"You know your Valide has ordered me to do this and ask you, but I like that you are being direct on this topic," he said looking at me this time as if he was more calm after I didn't come here serious or afraid as every of my sisters would if they would have been in this situation.
"Then I will be direct to you if you want to hear that, I didn't kill my husband. I hope the answer will satisfy my mother," I said sarcastically and he gave me the smirk once again. I didn't know how much I could trust him and I knew time would prove it.
"I hear from your voice that you actually killed him," Kemankes said and I just returned to him with a smile. I loved conversation with people like this not the serious ones who were everywhere around this Palace and usually everyone was serious, aggressive or afraid.
"But you will tell to my mother what you think that you should say to her," I said testing him what would he actually say to my mother. I needed to know what was the situation here and if he is so loyal to my mother like they say, and if he is why is he so loyal to her and not to my brother Sultan Murad Khan who is only one who can rule this empire.
"So you want me to end this investigation and make sure your mother knows you aren't the responsible one?" He asked as he raised his eyebrows.
"Exactly that, Pasha, you see we can understand each other very well so I expect you to be well in that mission with my mother," I said while leaving back to Palace as being for the long time outside with Kemankes might seem suspicious to someone else in the Palace and I didn't want any drama to happen just when I arrived even though my mother assigned him for that, we all knew Murad changes his mood quite often and we never know what can make him crazy, but as his twin sister I gave all of myself to try to understand him.
"Kemankes, what did Naime say to you? It took you a long time but I hope you found out the real truth," Kosem said as she awaited for Kemankes at royal gardens where she was allowed to meet with men as she was Valide Sultana of the Empire and he was Grand Vizier it was allowed of them to meet and they had to do it publicly without hiding.
"Naime Sultan was telling the truth, she didn't kill him. They found him death after he got drunk, I even talked with her servants and nurses from Egypt who told me everything. Without Sultana knowing I also talked with doctor from Egypt who arrived after them and Sultana didn't have anything involved in this," Kemankes lied to Kosem looking her directly in the eyes without being any kind of suspicious towards him.
"I didn't expect that. I was sure Naime killed him as she wanted to revenge me for marrying him," Kosem said looking at another way as needing time to process what will she do next since Naime didn't do what she thought she did.
"I am hundred percent sure Sultana has nothing to do with it," Kemankes said and he himself alone didn't know why is he doing this and standing in a favour of woman who he met this day instead of telling the truth to a woman he has been serving for few years and a Valide Sultana of Ottoman Empire. This was the first time Kemankes lied to her, and he didn't feel any guilty about protecting Naime Sultana because he knew how is Kosem Sultan and for revenge she would marry her to even worse husband.
"Is it true that her late husband was behaving bad towards her?" Kosem asked as she raised her eyebrow and she tried to find more and more proofs just to make sure she was right, but she believed Kemankes.
"Sultana haven't mentioned anything of that," Kemankes said before Kosem dismissed him and she left back to Palace to her imperial duties.
"Naime Sultan, I didn't have the ability to meet you," a woman with short blonde hair said to me as she approached me in Harem. I had no idea who she was but I saw her once in my Valide's chambers but obviously didn't give her much of a chance.
"I am Farya Sultan, I am really glad to meet you after many things I have heard of you," she said with a wide smile like she wanted from the beginning to be in good relations with me and what I hated the most were people who would be good with anyone just for attention.
"I hope only good," I fake smiled and hoped this conversation wouldn't last long as I wasn't ready to mix into the harem dramas between Ayse and Farya and then again more drama between Atike and Gevherhan which I was against of because I didn't want my sisters to fight over stupid Silahtar who didn't deserve their attention.
"Only good of course, you really resemble your mother, you are really beautiful," she couldn't stop complimenting me as she obviously didn't know I'm not like Atike and Gevherhan and I won't fall for someone's three or four nice words and then sympathise them.
"Do you have anything important to tell me Farya or just this?" I asked her and her face expression was precious when she realised I don't care for fake compliments especially not now when my mother is trying to make a new plan about my life.
"Nothing, Sultana, I just wished to meet you better but I see you obviously don't know a lot about me that I am legitimate wife of your brother and of course I would want to be in good terms with you as a Sultana-," she started talking so good about her that I had to stop her because I was the first one who was against her and Murad's marriage because if he wished he would be able to marry anyone else but he married hungarian princess who doesn't want to get used on our rules and is bitching around the harem with the fact that she is haseki sultan.
"You can call yourself a Sultana only after you gift our dynasty with a prince. While you don't have a son you aren't sultana, and the fact you are married to him doesn't change anything," I smiled this time from joy how her reaction changed to hurt and I enjoyed placing people where they actually have to because she can't bitch herself infront of an ottoman sultana.
"Naime Sultan, so good to see you here. You obviously met Farya and she mentioned to you many times how she is married to our Sultan as she can't spend a day without telling that to someone," Ayse came and felt powerful next to me as she heard my words towards Farya and obviously that made her think I would stand by her side but little much she knew they are all the same concubines in my eyes.
"What's the matter Ayse?" I asked her and looked Farya with look you can leave now which took her few moments to understand before she bowed and left with her pride hurt.
"I hope you saw who's side you must chose now, because Farya won't bring you any good, she can't even give a birth to a son," Ayse said and she touched her pregnant belly hoping she would give birth to another son as she already had a son Ahmed and a daughter Hanzade and those were Murad's only children.
"That doesn't place you in a position where you can talk like that because you two are the same and I don't want to listen to those things anymore nor chose side in stupid harem dramas. You should rather focus on your children than make fights in harem," I said as I was about to leave as Murad's harem didn't interest me even a bit when she stopped me.
"Then you wouldn't mind if I would tell Sultan you were with Kemankes Pasha today alone in Summer Gardens?"
