Chapter 6

The blazing hot sun matched her fiery mood. After the eventful day yesterday, all Sarah wanted was the reassurance that she was still normal, even though if that meant she was sick. She was truly convinced that she had low blood sodium. Or at least some other type of sickness.

She frowned when she remembered how the doctor said that she was healthy. Back then, she wanted to slam the table and throw the chair. How can she be healthy? If she really was healthy, it means that she can see entities others can't. It means that she's a freak.

Sarah was fuming mad, she didn't even realise that she was in her own world until she bumped into someone. Thank goodness it's not a car!

The girl Sarah bumped into gave a small scream when the books in her hands fell on the ground. Sarah quickly bent down and picked up the fallen books. Her anger had simmered down.

"I'm sorry. Here are your books. You sure read a lot!" Sarah said while handing the thick books to the girl. Sarah eyes widened when she looked properly at the girl. That girl was a first year in the School of Economics, just like her.

The thick books she held were not related to economics, though. Sarah looked at her in admiration. "Even though we are taking the same course, you are reading more than just our subjects. Your general knowledge must've been really vast."

The girl looked at Sarah with an undistinguishable feeling in her eyes. "I don't read these books."

Her answer shocked Sarah. If not for herself, why was she carrying all those thick textbooks and reference books? Unless...

"Those are not yours," the realisation hits her, "the seniors forced you to borrow it from the library for them."

"It took you a while to realise that." She looked at Sarah, her eyes were getting teary.

"I'm sorry." Sarah looked down.

"Easy for you to say, you have someone to protect you," she said bitterly, "I have to do all their biddings if I want to survive." She showed her hands to Sarah. Her lean and elegant fingers were rough, full of scratches and wounds.

"Sheila can protect you too." Sarah said quietly.

She glared at Sarah. "You have the money to pay her. Everything goes fine when you have money. This is life! People with money like you will live an easy life while the poor ones like me will suffer."

Sarah was speechless. "Don't judge someone," she warned, "and I am not rich. Not at all."

The girl looked at Sarah skeptically. Sarah sighed. "I'm sorry for bumping into you. Have a nice day." Sarah walked away before she exploded in anger.

Sarah massaged her head. Her day was becoming worse by the moment. Fortunately, Gu didn't appear and annoy her throughout the day.

"But people believed that a naga will bring good luck." Gu disagreed.

Another nuisance appears. Gu, don't talk to me right now. I don't want to look like a crazy girl talking to herself. Sarah tried her best to hide her emotions.

"We are so close to your room, though."

Sarah ignored him, even though she had pretty much accepted his existence.

"Don't ignore me. We need to talk. You want answers, right?"

Sarah still ignored him.

"In the past, people would cry out of happiness when I talk to them."

Sarah walked quickly to her room and opened the door with a bang. Luckily, Sheila wasn't in the room.

"Talk now. Tell me what's going on." Sarah said when she sat on the bed, with a packet of biscuit in her hands.

"Let's start with introductions. I don't know your full name, even though you bestowed me a name."

"My name is Sarah Goh binti Yusuf Goh. Before you ask, yes, I'm of a mixed descent. Now, tell me everything I need to know."

"Both of us are bonded through a blood contract. That's why you can see and talk to me." Gu said.

"Oh. So I am a master. Hmm... a master-servant contract sounds nice." Sarah nodded her head while crunching on the biscuit.

"It's not a master-servant contract. It's an equal contract."

"That doesn't sound too bad. At least you wouldn't be ordering me around."

"Since we share an equal contract, we will share a lot of things with each other. I will need your energy to grow stronger. In exchange, you will get some of my powers."

"Powers? Me?" Sarah's eyebrows crinkled.

"Since you're a human, Sarah, your power would be limited to mind powers. I'm sorry, but you can't have elemental powers."

"That's still cool. If I can get my head around it." Sarah rolled her eyes.

"Don't worry. I'll take care of you. You're my wife after all."

"Excuse me?" Sarah screamed.

"You are my wife."

"This is not a movie. Stop springing me with surprises. Am I supposed to accept this?" Sarah was mortified.

"I can explain." Gu tried to bargain.

"Later. Let me clear my mind first." Sarah didn't know how to accept everything that happened since yesterday. She tried to be open minded but it was just too much.
