Episode 8
'One off the list of names.'
Gauri looked away from Om and smiled at Dadi. She thanked her for doing her mehndhi before starting to resume her work once more. She kept looking at Arjun as she did her work...today she would make sure he dies in her hands.
Literally.
She kept the empty tray to a side then walked past Arjun to go outside when one of the servants stopped her.
Gauri: kya hua Preeti?
Preeti: where are you going? We have work to do.
Gauri: I just need some fresh air. This place is crowded with people na.
Preeti: fine. Be quick because Jhanvi mam might start her nagging if she sees that you are not in the hall.
Gauri nodded as she went outside to the garden. Truth to be told, she didn't actually want to get fresh air but she made up the excuse. When she was outside, she allowed the gentle breeze to dance with her hair and let the breeze caress her skin and face. She continued to walk making sure she was away from anyone's sight. When she finally stopped, she felt a hand on her shoulder, playing at the strap. She wiped the hand off her and turned to see Arjun standing there with a smile.
Gauri: aap? Yahan?
Arjun: I saw you going to the garden by yourself so I thought to talk to you here.
Gauri: really? Talk to me or try get into my pants you bloody pervert?
Arjun: Gauri....
Gauri: kya 'Gauri'? You thought I don't know how to speak? I guess you are not used to girls speaking up against you am I right?
Arjun: look Gauri, I support women speaking up for themselves.
Gauri: really? So when you and your gang were keeping my sister to the ground, you and your gang her for her speaking up?!
Arjun: your sister?
Gauri: haan my sister. Maybe you don't remember, in that case let me remind you.
With her magic, the powers she had, she managed to change her face to look like Shivali, her older sister. Once she changed into Shivali, Arjun was shocked.
Seeing Arjun shocked, Gauri smirked and then she changed back to her normal face.
Arjun: wha....you are a witch!
Gauri: not a witch, I am a naagin.
She closed her eyes and within seconds, she was in her naagin form with her new face. Arjun looked at her top to bottom in the crop top and the red long skirt. His mind being filled with dirty desires.
Gauri: keep your dirty eyes off me.
Arjun: so you are a naagin....oh shit you are a naagin.
Gauri: yeah I am and I know what you are thinking. You are thinking that since you haven't got that magic powder you sprinkled on me and my sister before, you are now doomed.
Arjun: I...voh....look I will tell Tej sir about you and when I saw that naagin and you, you looked different.
Gauri sighed as she changed into her face as Devi and then changed back to her Gauri's face. Then she said: so your Tej sir gave you that magic powder that weakened my powers and my sister's powers and he taught you that once a naagin is weak, they can't fight back but he didn't tell you about our powers and all we are capable of.
Arjun: you don't scare me. Why are you even after me?
Gauri rolled her eyes at that impossible man. He needed a proper brain. Had he not gotten the message yet? She looked at Arjun with a dangerous, unsettling glare that could make even the toughest of the tough and the roughest of the rough scared and uncomfortable.
So obviously it made Arjun both scared and uncomfortable. She twirled a strand of her wavy hair then said through gritted teeth: you killed the Suryavanshi kingdom's Naagrani! You killed a part of Shankarji! (She kept her hand around Arjun's neck, strangling him) You killed my sister! Meri di! And you maybe don't know this but when you kill one of my kind, then your death is next.
She tightened her grip on Arjun's neck. He tried getting her hand off his neck but her grip was so strong. He saw her eyes turning bright yellow and her snake scales were appearing on her skin and on her face.
Gauri removed her hand from Arjun's neck making him breathe for precious air. Gauri didn't feel any pity towards him as she extended her arm to his chest and a ripping sound was heard.
Arjun: what did you.....
He saw Gauri holding a glowing heart that was black in colour, not a single stain of blood on her hands. She was smirking as she looked at the heart.
Arjun: my heart?
Gauri: heart ripping...not many naagins or naags have this power. It's a rare power and I have been lucky to be blessed with this power. Now about your heart....it belongs to me now. You see, when you take a heart, it becomes enchanted. Stronger than a normal heart. I'm controlling it and also hurting you!
She smirked and squeezed the heart making Arjun fall to his knees groaning in unbearable pain.
Arjun: I am hurt and you are smiling, during this time even the enemy shows mercy.
Gauri squeezed the heart tighter making him feel more pain as she said: when you and your gang attacked me and my sister, then did you guys show mercy or did you smile and laugh whilst we were weak?
She stopped squeezing the heart making him stop feeling pain and he got up.
Arjun: why is my heart black and not red?
Gauri: a heart is red when it is pure, it can have taints of black but yours is fully black because you are a sinner! You probably hurted so many people and you kill! Your heart is not at all pure and you don't deserve to live. I think I know when to turn your heart to dust.
Arjun: what happens then?
Gauri: guess.
She closed her eyes again turning back to her servant avatar before leaving Arjun. She turned the heart invisible before going back in the house. Even if it was invisible, she could still turn it to dust.
The moment she came back, she bumped into Om.
Gauri: hi.
Om: hi. Sorry we keep bumping into each other.
Gauri: I guess I have to be the one sorry. I never see where I'm going.
Om: it's fine.
They smiled at each other before Gauri said: so do you want me to serve you anything or the guests anything?
Om: nahi. I don't really boss people around so you can wait for my mum or one of the servants to give you an order.
Gauri: theek hai. Why do you look so glum?
Om: I'm not glum, I'm fine, just tired.
Gauri gave him a look then said: did your dad speak to you about business again? He said stuff to you again, said stuff to put you down.
Om: yaar how did you know?
Gauri: I could easily tell. Your dad needs to stop putting you down and just know that you are amazing. You're not what your dad says you are.
Om: thanks Gauri, honestly you are really supportive and a great person. I can see why Dadi is pretty much your fan.
Gauri: Dadi's my fan? I'm actually a fan of your Dadi...yaar she is so sweet, so kind, so purehearted and so selfless.
Om: that's why I love her. I love her more than Ishana.
Gauri: does Ishana know?
Om: of course not. Don't tell her.
They laughed. Gauri thought about Ishana and Abhay....she hated not being able to tell Om about the fact that his fiance was cheating on him with another man. As she was feeling sorry for Om and talking to him, she noticed Arjun in the hall now. She looked at him, he had this scared look on his face. He was acting extremely cautious of her as he should be. Gauri wasn't that sympathetic though. She didn't care if he was scared. As a human, she tried to be nice and friendly but as a naagin, she only cared about her loved ones and avenging her sister's death which meant being merciless to her murderers.
Gauri in mind: time to tick one murderer off my list.
She looked at Om with a smile and said: I just need to pin my sari pallu. It needs sorting.
Om: yeah sure, I'll go and give Dadi her medicine.
Gauri nodded as she smiled at him once more before leaving. She went to the washroom and turned Arjun's black heart from invisible to visible. She smirked at it before squeezing it tightly. She could hear Arjun's loud painful groans and everyone asking him what was wrong. She didn't care as she squeezed the heart tighter and tighter, her hand squeezing it with so much power and pressure that it was turning into dust. Soon it was fully dust. She smiled as she blew the dust off her hands.
Gauri quickly adjusted her sari pin and then went out of the washroom to hear a loud scream from Jhanvi....
Jhanvi: ARJUN!
Om: Arjun, wake up. Please.
Rudy: someone call the doctor!
Gauri joined the crowd of servants and guests to see Arjun on the floor...eyes shut and dead. Dead. He was gone forever and though everyone seemed upset, Gauri was happy despite keeping a sad look on her face.
Gauri in mind: one down, five more to go.
Looking at Arjun's dead body as a doctor soon came and the body was taken to a downstairs room, she remembered seeing her sister's dead body
Her head had been banged against a rock making Devi unconscious. When she regained consciousness, she was no longer by the riverside. Someone of her kind must have found her and her sister and brought them to one of the jungle's stone buildings. She got up and looked for Shivali.
Devi: Shivali! Didi! Didi kaha hai aap?
She bumped into her twin sister Kirati.
Devi: Kirati, where is Shivali didi?
Kirati: Devi, turn left and you will see.
Devi nodded, her heart beating fast as she turned left and walked to see a body on a long slab of stone covered with a white sheet. She saw her Nani with teary eyes.
Devi: Nani...
Nani: you don't have to see the face if you don't want to.
But she wanted to. She wanted to mentally convince herself that underneath the sheet was not her sister. However as she lifted the sheet, she saw her sister. Her sister with her eyes closed and the bruises had gone but she knew her Nani had most likely got rid of them. She kept her hand near Shivali's nose to see if she was breathing or not but she wasn't.
Devi: Shivali didi...
Nani: when me, Kirati and our naaglok found you two, you were both unconscious. You were badly hurt but Shivali...she was stabbed and by the time we found you two, she was dying. She didn't have enough time on her. Had we found you both earlier, maybe....
She started crying and Devi comforted her Nani whilst looking at her sister's dead body....her sister's lifeless, dead body.
Gauri heard the doctor announcing Arjun's death as a sudden death with no cause behind it but Gauri knew perfectly well the cause behind his death and she wasn't revealing it. She saw guests whispering and the servants looking pitiful whilst the Oberois looked upset even Ishana. Wow she didn't expect that girl to have any emotions whatsoever.
Om walked away from the room and from the building. She knew he was going outside. Though she was the reason why his friend died, a part of her wanted to go comfort him and she went to do so because if he was maybe there when her sister died if they had known each other, maybe he would comfort her too.
Gauri: Omkara?
She said as she saw him standing still in the garden. Gauri went closer to him then said: if you want to express your feelings, you can. I'm here.
Om: Arjun...we have been friends for 14 years and even though my father loved him more than me, he normally sucked up to my father, even though he has a not so good track record with girls and though he had his dirty mind and desires and he was impossible, I don't know...I still stayed his friend because I couldn't bear to let go of our friendship and I stayed in the hope that he would change his ways and be that Arjun who cared about people. But he didn't. I'm hurt by his death and as his friend, I am upset but I wish he could have changed his ways, maybe try to do some good before his time.
Gauri: sometimes God takes people away because he wants more angels to enhance heaven. Sometimes God takes people because he wants to make the Earth a better place and that starts by taking people who are just no good.
Om: I guess you have a point there but I am really going to miss him. He was my childhood friend and before he started to change, he was honestly amazing.
Gauri: come here.
She made him face her and then hugged him. She knew that she shouldn't and Om knew he shouldn't have hugged her back, but the hug felt right. Being in his embrace felt right. Being hugged by her felt right. The hug was a simple enough gesture - affection, perhaps the fragile beginnings of love for her. The arms that held him were soft, yet strong. They both noticed how her body fitted perfectly in his arms. The feel of her body so close to his soothed him more than he had expected.
After hugging each other for what felt like eternity, they separated from each other with smiles on their faces. Gauri saw a tear escaping Om's eye so she got up on her tip toes to wipe the tear away before saying: let's go back in.
He nodded as they went back in. It was at that moment Ishana came up to them and said: after Arjun's last rites tomorrow, the wedding is happening on the same day.
Om: isn't that disrespectful? I am not celebrating my wedding on the same day as my friend's last rites.
Ishana: but the wedding is already planned for tomorrow.
Gauri: if Omkara doesn't want the wedding tomorrow, then respect his wishes. He is always respecting your wishes.
Ishana: excuse me, kindly keep your nose out of mine and Om's business.
Om: Gauri, is it okay if you can go for a minute please?
She didn't want to leave Om alone with Ishana but she did because Om had asked politely and she was respecting his wishes unlike some people...
Ishana: I want the wedding tomorrow as planned!
Om: but I think we should have it the day after tomorrow!
Ishana: no we are having it tomorrow and that is final!
Om: you know Gauri is right, I am always respecting your wishes, doing what you want, trying to make you happy. Ishana, I even agreed to forget my dreams to join business!
Ishana: Om, stop going on about those dead dreams!
Om: thing is I always respect your wishes, I do what you want, I listen to your opinions and for once I am bent on my decision and you are just getting annoyed!
Ishana: think logical for once in your life! The wedding is planned for tomorrow and things get complicated when you postpone the plans! Now is it my fault that Arjun happened to die the day before our wedding?
Om: you know what? Have your way once again! I don't pull tantrums unlike you when I don't get my wish and for once Ishana, I want one simple wish of mine to be fulfilled and that can't even happen.
Ishana: stop being a baby Om.
Om: you stop being one Ishana.
And with that said, he left Ishana on the spot. She was going to talk to her family members and his family. She needed the marriage to happen else she wouldn't have any money or any ticket to get to Paris to be with Abhay.
