Episode 2
'No trait is more justified than revenge in the right time and place.'
Om was no longer on the stairs, instead he was on the living room floor, standing there with his hands in his pockets, smiling at Gauri who smiled back at him.
Jhanvi: do you really think I should do another interview?
Om: yeah, maybe this girl will be the perfect for the job role.
Jhanvi: theek hai. (she looked at Gauri) what's your name again?
Gauri: it's Gauri.
Jhanvi: Gauri, sit down on this sofa.
Gauri simply nodded as she sat on the sofa opposite the sofa Jhanvi was sitting on. Om decided to stay for the interview in case his mother decided to start yelling....his mother was very well known for her temper.
Jhanvi: so your full name is Gauri Kumari Sharma...tell me, have you ever been a househelp before?
Gauri shook her head but then said: I have however done all cleaning, cooking, everything when I was living with my maasi.
Jhanvi: why do you want this job?
Gauri: I was kicked out of my apartment by my maasi....she didn't want me anymore so I want this job so I can stand on my own two feet.
Jhanvi: what qualities do you have of being a househelp?
Gauri: I'm attentive, I am trustworthy, I do everything up to perfection, I'm flexible and I have strong time management skills.
Jhanvi: can you handle stress?
Gauri nodded.
Jhanvi: finally a worthy candidate. Congratulations you are hired. You start tomorrow. Om, show her the servant quarters and ask the head servant to give her the uniform and to make her aware of her duties.
Gauri: uniform?
Jhanvi: yes, you will be wearing a uniform for this job so then people know that you are a servant for the Oberoi Mansion.
Gauri just nodded as she got up and followed Om outside the house to a nearby building. As they walked to that building, Om said to Gauri: sorry if my mum sounds snappy...she's been all stressed out due to my marriage functions.
Gauri: your shaadi functions?
Om: yeah. I'm getting married very soon to my childhood sweetheart, Ishana.
Gauri: accha...
Om: here is the servant quarters. I'll come in with you to introduce to Shwetaji the head servant.
She just nodded. He led her inside the servant quarters. She was wowed to see how big the servant quarters were. Here she was thinking that the mansion was huge.
Gauri in mind: are all servant quarters this huge?
Om walked her over to a middle-aged woman....her dark hair tied in a bun with just a few strands of greys, despite her aging, she did not have a single wrinkle. She did have a couple of eye bags probably from late nights of helping the Oberois. She was also in a white kurta....was a white kurta the uniform?
Om: good morning Shwetaji.
Shweta: morning Om.
Om: have you just woken up or something?
Shweta: no. Today I start work from the afternoon so decided to wear my own clothes till noon.
Om: accha. Well Shwetaji, this is Gauri, she is the new servant.
Shweta: so Jhanvi mam finally found someone for the job role?
Om: at last. Mum wants you to give her the uniform and just instruct her on her duties.
Shweta: of course.
Om was about to leave when he whispered to Gauri: good luck and congrats for the job.
She smiled as he left. Once he was gone, she looked at Shweta who told her to follow her. Gauri followed Shweta upstairs and then to a small room.
Shweta: this is your room where you will be staying. Stay here for one moment as I get your uniform.
Gauri nodded as she left to get it. The moment she left, Gauri said in a quiet whisper: that man...Om...he is getting married? There goes my plan of making him fall for me.
Within minutes, Shweta came back with the servant's uniform folded up neatly.
Shweta: this is your uniform. Make sure it is clean at all times and you have to wear it whenever you are in the Oberoi Mansion or when you go out.
Gauri: theek hai.
Shweta made her hold the uniform and then said: I think this will fit you. You are quite petite. Anyway now let me tell you your duties.
Gauri just nodded. She didn't want to know her duties nor did she even want to be a servant for a rich family but sometimes, in order to achieve your goals, you had to do what you got to do even if you don't want to do it.
Shweta: now you wake up every morning at 7am and you need to be in the mansion by 7:25am. At that time, you start to clean the house, mop the house, dust it, brush it...
Shweta kept talking but Gauri managed to block her out meaning that Gauri now couldn't hear her despite Shweta's mouth moving to talk. This was a kind of power many wished to have...just be able to block people out, like properly block them out. Gauri was lucky enough to be blessed with the gift to block people out.
As Shweta was talking, Gauri thought to herself: so I am a servant here now....I guess I have to take baby steps to achieve my goal.
Once Shweta was finally done talking, she left Gauri alone. Gauri smiled and then allowed herself to hear sound once again. She looked at the uniform in her arms and kept it on the bed.
Gauri: tomorrow I will be in the Oberoi Mansion and then I can figure out a new plan but first I need to know the Oberois. Once I know the Oberois, only then can it be easier to succeed.
She decided to get some water so she went out of the room and went down the stairs. There were two women there. Obviously they were also servants of the Oberoi Mansion as of their uniform. Also they were carrying folded up towels.
Woman:: Aditi, I heard that Omkara sir will ride a horse on his wedding day.
Aditi: nahi nahi Pakhi, Omkara sir is a simple man. He won't ride a horse. I heard that he will enter in a car like a movie star.
Pakhi: nah the Oberois are known for super fancy over the top entries in weddings.
Aditi was about to talk when Gauri went up to them.
Gauri: hi where is the kitchen in this building?
Aditi: first tell me this, who are you?
Gauri: I am Gauri and I am the new servant here.
Aditi: servant?
The two women laughed.
Pakhi: you look like you are Katrina Kaif in that outfit.
Aditi: once you are a servant, you need to dress down. Servants aren't meant to look rich.
Gauri: really? Nice....now where is the kitchen? I need a glass of water.
Pakhi: haww Miss Katrina Kaif wants a glass of water.
Gauri looked at the two women. In fact, she was just looking at them. She was properly staring at them right in the eyes. She looked at the first woman and within seconds, her pupils turned very narrow then Gauri looked at the second woman and her pupils did the same.
Gauri: now ladies, where is the kitchen?
Pakhi: turn left and you will find the kitchen.
Gauri: thank you.
She walked past them. She clicked her fingers and continued walking as the two women' pupils turned back to normal and they shook their heads as if they had just woken up from a bad dream.
Gauri in mind: did I click my fingers with that security guard? Oh shoot I didn't....oh well it's been a few minutes or so....he will be back to his protective ass security guard self again.
She turned left. Once she was gone, Adit said: this girl better not act like she owns this place.
Pakhi: I don't know why people hire youngsters these days. I bet you, she will make so many mistakes and we all will have to fix them.
Pakhi: poor us.
The two women continued to self-pity themselves.
...
It was the first day of the job for Gauri. The two women were rather convinced that she would wake up late. This was because they didn't see her in the servant quarters and they assumed that she was sleeping but to their surprise, the moment they entered the Oberoi Mansion, they saw a young woman sweeping the marble floor of the grand mansion.
This young woman was wearing the uniform like the two women and the other servants who came with them. The steel blue sari with a woven moroccan jaal design and a contrasting red woven border, paired with a red unstitched blouse in silk with a woven jaal design. Her wavy hair was tied in a bun. The only way the two women recognised her was by the coloured bangles she wore on her wrists.
Aditi and Pakhi: the new girl....
Gauri was done sweeping and looked at the entrance of the mansion where Pakhi, Aditi and 4 other servants were also at. She smiled at them and went up to them.
Gauri: you all are more experienced than me so do check to see if I have made any mistake or not.
She smirked at Aditi and Pakhi as the servants went to see what Gauri had already done. She had swept the floors, dusted the house, set out the dining table....
Pakhi: at this rate, we can make her do all the work.
Aditi: I know right.
A servant went near Lord Shivji Statue and saw that Gauri was setting up a puja thaali plate.
Servant: don't set up the plate.
Gauri: kyu?
Servant: why are you questioning me? I have been in the job longer. I am just telling you what not to do.
Gauri: haan but I wanted to actually know why I can't set up a puja thaali.
Servant: because the Oberois don't pray to Shivji in the morning or even at night. They only do puja on special occasions.
Gauri: accha....
The servant left. Gauri looked at Shivji's statue and said in a quiet whisper: you took my sister's life and she was the one devoted to you but you didn't take their lives, the people who just keep you in their house but don't pray to you. I don't like people but I can tell you that you have given riches to the wrong people. You should have given those street people all the wealth in the world.
She finished setting the thaali plate and then picked it up, speaking again in that low voice of hers: I don't care if this family gets disturbed if I worship you. They need to learn that if they are rich then they are rich because of you.
Shiv shankar ko jisne puja uska hi udhar hua (x2)
Ant kaal ko bhavsagar mein uska beda paar hua
Bhole shankar ki puja karo
Jhanvi woke up in her room, rather pissed off since she woke up earlier to hear singing.
Rudy was tossing and turning and then woke up, also annoyed since he hated waking early.
Anika and Shivay woke up. They were both confused since they didn't know who was singing early in the morning.
Dadi woke up with a smile. She missed hearing bhajans in the morning.
Finally the hero, Omkara Singh Oberoi, woke up hearing the singing.
Om: who is singing?
Dhayan charno mein iske dharo (x2)
Har har mahadev shiv shambu......
Damro vala hai jag mein dayalu bada
Dindukhiyo ka data jagat ka pita (x2)
Sab pe karta hai yeh bhola shanker daya
Sab ko deta hai yeh aashara
All the Oberois got up and went upstairs to see Gauri...the new girl...performing puja in their house to Shivji. Dadi smiled even more and went near Gauri, folding her hands together as she allowed Gauri to continue singing. Om went next to his dadi and also folded his hands together, closing his eyes to pray to Shivji. The others kept a distance
Rudy wasn't religious and Jhanvi, well she also wasn't that religious like her husband Tej. Shivay and Anika never really devoted time to religion.
The bhajaan and puja was nearly finished. Om opened his eyes and looked at Gauri. Just yesterday she entered their house, wearing her beautiful clothes, her hair was all down and she had those colourful bangles. Though she was wearing the servant uniform and her hair was tied in a bun by a clip, she still was wearing those colourful bangles on her wrist. He watched her as she devotely sang for Shivji. There was this glow on her face. A bright glow that made her look ten times beautiful.
Gauri: ant kaal ko bhavsagar mein uska beda paar hua.
She was done with the puja and kept the thaali down. She then turned to see the Oberois.
Aditi and Pakhi watched from a distance.
Aditi: think she will get fired?
Pakhi: of course she will.
Jhanvi: why did you decide to perform puja and that too early in the morning? Did no one tell you that we don't do puja?!
The servant who earlier spoke to Gauri, said: I did mam.
Jhanvi: I didn't stop you because it would have been rude but you are not allowed to ever and I mean ever to perform puja here again!
Rudy: exactly. Listen to my mother. She is your boss.
Dadi: but the eldest in this house is me and I say that this new girl should be allowed to perform puja in the morning. Shivji has given us loads and us not worshipping him is not right.
Om: I agree with dadi. In these modern times, we have disconnected with our religion and God when God has given us a lot that we should be grateful for. God doesn't ask for anything but God will feel good if we worship him.
Jhanvi: phir se! If someone more experienced than her told her not to perform puja then she should have listened.
Gauri: I am sorry but Shivji deserves all the worship in the world.
Om: exactly. Mum, it's just an early morning puja. It's not a crime.
Jhanvi rolled her eyes as she left. Rudy looked at Gauri then left. Anika and Shivay just smiled leaving.
Dadi: beta, what is your name?
Gauri: it's Gauri.
Dadi: Gauri, you are a beautiful singer and thank you for today's bhajan.
Gauri smiled as Dadi left. Om looked at Gauri and said: how is the first day of the job?
Gauri: so far...it's okay expect your mother having a meltdown over nothing....sorry I didn't mean to say that.
Om: it's okay, I agree with you. She has a lot of meltdowns, normally over nothing.
They both chuckled.
Om: your hair is up?
Gauri: all servants had their hairs up so I thought to clip it up.
The hair in a bun was annoying her, she kept her hand near her hair to try and sort it out a little. Om held her hand, keeping it down then with his own hand, took the clip off her hair.
Her wavy hair let loose. He then showed the clip in front of her, saying: keep your hair loose and free, it looks more beautiful and if a bun bothers you, don't wear a bun.
Gauri: will your mother mind?
Om: if she does, I am here. I will talk to her.
Gauri smiled at him as she thought: Dadi and Om seem nice but who knows? Maybe this niceness of theirs is a charade. Now which man out of the blue eyes and mummy ki chamki is Tej? The mastermind?
Precap: Gauri and the snake
Was supposed to be Gauri and the snake today but wrote this instead.
Did try to upload pics but computer is being horrible to me.
How did you guys find this then?
Do you think Om is acting to be nice or is he really nice?
Will Gauri find Tej?
Where is Tej?
