Chapter 12

Hodenko looked at me with what looked like some sort of hidden happiness on his face.

"Your not getting hurt by the arrows, quicker than before." He told me.

"Thanks." That was the closest to a complement I'd got from him before so I wasn't going to quibble with it.

"Learning Bow again today." Hodenko decided and handed me an temporary bow to use for today.

I tried not to groan, I wasn't very good at shooting, let alone aiming. I swear that the mentor Na'vi take their trainees away from me in well deserved fear that I'd get one of them, in truth I had nearly taken one of them out on my first day. I also feel that I am the first person to warrant fear in the Na'vi for even holding a bow, with no arrow in sight.

Hodenko reluctantly handed me a arrow to use.

Expertly nocking it, because that was what I was good at, nothing more, I stretched the bow out resting the arrow on the top of my hand only to be told off before being able to do any more.

"NO, no, no! Your holding it wrong!"  Hodenko cried angrily and lifted my very tired arm from pointing down, up, and pushed my back up so I stood straight.

Standing next to me Hodenko mimicked breathing through his chest and pulling my stomach In. Doing what he said Hodenko grudgingly let me loose the arrow towards one of the training trees I'd just ran from and to my surprise it landed near the base of it rather than towards the others.

I grinned looking at Hodenko who just grunted.

Handing me another arrow I tried again and got the same result.

Hodenko handed me another and pulled my arm back towards my cheek rather than just in front of my face.

Letting go I whooped jumping about making all the other Na'vi look at me strangely.

"Sorry, just managed to hit the bulls eye for the first time!" I apologised.

"Sky people." Hodenko sighed shaking his head in annoyance.

Even though for the rest of the day I couldn't do better and Hodenko tried to make me angry with sky people insults he couldn't take me down from cloud 9.

At midday I was taken back to camp where I sat nervously with Lokiki's family which was a father, mother, three sisters, two had a child, and a baby brother.

A bird call swept through the camp and Lokiki's family stood up. I copied them.

Lokiki came staggering out of the hidden tree trunk and almost drunkenly made his way to me.

"Why? why did you agree to this WE WILL DIE!" He screamed not to me anymore, but to the sky. "What did we do to deserve this!" He looked at me with fearful wide eyes.

"Right your mistake, before it's too late!" With that he closed his eyes and collapsed onto the floor.

"Lokiki!" I screamed and fell to his side and shook him.

Jake came to my side and dragged me away. "He's dead." He told me.

"NO!" I cried.

Jake hit me over my head and I woke up in my human body.

Gasping and tears falling from my face it was a long time before I was able to calm down.

"What happened?!" M12 asked me as soon as I could talk.

"I don't want to talk about it." I told M12.

"PN13, this is serious, if you do not tell us everything that goes on down there, how can we help you or know what is going on?!" M12 shouted at me.

I looked at her outburst.

"And I will be forced to boot you off back to Earth." She added.

I sighed and wiped tears from my face. "Alright, I saw a murder take place in front of me, now leave me alone."

Climbing into bed I dreamed of Lokiki till the morning.

Cursing the bright light I opened my eyes and looked around my surroundings. I was in my Na'vi body. How?

Sitting up I found Hodenko next to me with Gyllenhaal who both looked at me with sympathy and understanding.

Hodenko was the first to speak in the silence. "Lokiki walks with Aywa now, he is happy with his ancestors."

I bit my lip not wanting to say anything.

"It is always hard the first time someone close to you dies, but remember that they will be happy with their new life and you can always speak to him." Gyllenhaal spoke.

"How? How am I supposed to speak to him when he is dead?" I demanded.

Hodenko looked at Gyllenhaal for a minute and then stood up. "I am going to speak with Jake, stay here and don't get into any more trouble."

When he'd left Gyllenhaal spoke again. "I knew Lokiki well, he was to be a fine warrior for our clan. Lokiki shall be missed but his name will not."

I looked at him in confusion.

"When a Na'vi dies, his family and closest friends morn. When the next baby is born of the Clan, they name it after the dead warrior unless it is his or her child." Gyllenhaal explained. "Sometimes that child may remember parts of his or her last life and be blessed. Lokiki was very talented with a bow, we await his new life to begin again."

Rustling of the trailing leaves warned us of approaching Na'vi. "Flame, I see you."

"I see you too Jake."

Jake sat down beside me. "I hear you would like to speak to Lokiki one last time." He asked.

I nodded. "It would... make things easier."

"But it could make things harder too." Jake grew serious. "Under Aywa's word he is unable to share what he saw with you. He could only tell those who were at his ceremony at the very most."

"You know what he saw?" I asked knowing he had been there.

"Yes, but it is forbidden for me to tell you."

I snorted. He would know why Lokiki was yelling at me before he died.

"If you want to speak to him, then come." Jake said from the other side of the room. I hadn't seen him go there.

Getting up Jake ran the way there flanked by my two mentors.

I followed behind, but not as far thanks to my training, I realized.

We stopped at a large tree, the tree of souls, I remembered hearing the other Na'vi speak of it.

"We shall stay here whilst you speak to Lokiki one last time." Jake told me.

I paused as I walked past him. "How do I talk to him?"

"With your bond." Jake pointed to my long hair.

Holding it up I attached my hair to the tree's willow like branches and took a deep breath of air feeling all the happy souls inside me. It was hard to explain. How could you explain how it felt to have so many people inside you, but at the same time not?

"Lokiki?" I asked inside my head. "Can you hear me?"

Lokiki's presence was almost instantaneous. "Flame, your here."

I smiled. "Of course I'm here, I came... to.. make sure your alright." I said.

"I'm fine." Lokiki smiled. Well, I was sure he was at least. "But you've not just come to see if I'm alright, have you?"

I opened my mouth to speak, but didn't say anything.

"I don't have to know you to know that. You want to know your mistakes so you can correct them." Lokiki asked.

I nodded.

"I can't tell you that, Jake has already told you this, but you know your mistakes, if not now, but later. You have to go now. Don't worry about me Flame, explore the world, see it for yourself, don't mope for me." Lokiki gave me his farewell.

"Goodbye Lokiki." I choked upon my emotions, speaking out loud as I disconnected the connection.

Almost as soon as I did so, I felt very tired. Jake wasn't nearby me anymore, I could see he was communing with Aywa himself. A little nap won't hurt anyone, I thought laying down and closing my eyes.

When I opened them again, I was back in my human body, banging ensued on my door.

"I'm coming!" I yelled and got up.

Opening the door I saw the Commanding Officer outside.

"Sir?" I frowned.

"PN13, can I come in" He asked.

"Yes sir." I nodded moving to allow him access in.

"I hear you woke out of your dream machine in an emotional state yesterday." The CO stated as I closed the door behind him.

"Yes sir."

"M12 told me you needed some time alone, you saw a murder apparently?" He said.

I nodded. "Yeah, that's right sir."

"Your first time I presume?"

"Yes sir."

The Commanding Officer nodded as if he was agreeing with himself. "Alright PN13, you need to get back there, you've had a day to recover, I'm sure the Na'vi clan  you are with are going to be very confused about why your sleeping so long. Get something to eat and go back."

"Sir, yes sir!" I said strongly. I would honour Lokiki's wish and explore all I could on Pandora.

Practically jumping into the dream machine I woke into my Avatar body.

Jake was sitting beside me. "Your awake" He said.

I nodded apologising. "I'm sorry."

"Don't be. Besides the fact your being controlled when you can stay in your body, you've gone through a lot."

"I'm sorry for being asleep for so long."  I said.

"I've told you, it doesn't matter, you needed to rest, it gave me time to think too." Jake said getting up. "But now we've got to go, we've been away for too long."
