The next day, you decided to take both Dib and Zim to school. You stopped by Dib's house first, and Gaz opened the door as soon as you reached their lawn. She looked at you.

"Oh, it's you. DIB!" Dib ran outside and saw you. "Oh, (y/n)! Wanna walk to school together?"

"That's what I'm here for!" You cheered. "Mind if we bring Zim along?"

Dib's smile dropped. "Oh. Him."

"I know you two aren't great friends and all, but I really like both of you! Can we please at least try?" You begged.

"Ehhh... fine... but if he does anything evil, I'm not walking to school with him ever again." Dib sighed.

"Thank you! Well then, let's go! You coming Gaz?" You asked. She grumbled and walked off.

"Okay!" You cheered, and dragged Dib along with you to Zim's house.

"GIR, keep the house on lockdown and don't let anyone in. Got it?" Zim commanded. "Yes sir." GIR saluted once again, and turned the TV on. Zim walked out, and saw you and Dib on the lawn. He groaned.

"You two again. What do you want?" He hissed.

"Walk to school with us! Please?" You begged.

"Is this another 'friend' thing?" He asked. You took a moment to think, and then nodded.

Zim sighed. "Ugh. Fine." He glared at Dib. "Why is the stink here?" He pointed at him.

Dib glared back. "Don't get the wrong idea, space boy, I'm just here for (y/n)."

"I'm sure you are." Zim scowled.

You started to realize this wasn't such a good idea. You stood in between the two on your walk to school. It was mostly silent the whole time. You tried to start up conversation in the hallway.

"So, um, it's getting pretty cold lately." You started nervously.

"Of course it is. That's how seasons work, (y/n)." Dib replied.

"Y-yeah... winter, am I right? Hehe..." you scratched your cheek. Zim glanced at you with a confused look.

"Winter? Seasons? What is this nonsense?" He asked, it seemed like he was asking you, specifically. You turned to look at him, and he shifted under your gaze.

"Well it's simple really. Stuff falls from the sky, and the climate changes. Right now it's fall, so all the leaves are falling and it's getting colder. By the time it's winter, snow will fall and it'll get freezing." You explained to Zim, he looked fascinated.

"What is this 'snow'?" He asked you. "It's white flakes made from water." Dib responded. "Should be pretty painful for you." Zim glared at Dib. "Silence, Dib-stink! I was asking (y/n)!" Dib rolled his eyes.

"Painful?" You asked. "Water is Zim's one weakness. It's dangerous to him." Dib responded.
"Oh gosh, I just remembered!" You gasped.
"What?"
"It's going to rain later!" You shared a sorrowful expression with Zim. He was a little confused as to why you did so.

"I-I forgot my umbrella at home, too..." you continued. "Oh, I have one in my locker. I'll share it with you, (y/n)!" Dib responded.

"Ah thank you!" You sighed, relieved. Zim squinted his eyes.

Pretty soon the three of you were sitting in class, bored out of your minds. Eventually Ms. Bitters dismissed class, and the three of you walked out.

You grabbed your things from your locker, and met up with Dib at his. You both had lockers just near the exit, so both of you were able to leave right away. Dib took out his umbrella and swung it over the both of your heads.

"Shouldn't we wait for Zim?" You asked. Dib sighed. "(Y/n), not this again..." he rolled his eyes. You put a hand on his shoulder. "C'mon, he wasn't so bad this morning, and I'd feel bad if he had to walk out in the rain and get hurt!" You pleaded.

Dib shook his head. "Sorry, (y/n). But... I just won't do it."

You sighed. "Fine... I'll just walk with Zim myself."

"(Y/n)? (Y/n), Wait-" Dib tried to stop you, but you were already walking down the hall and looking for Zim.

Eventually you found him leaning against a locker down the hall. He looked like he was thinking about something.

"Zim! Want to walk home together?" You asked. You caught him by surprise.

"Eh? (Y/n) human? Is the Dib with you?" He sounded confused.

"No, he didn't want to walk with us." You frowned a bit.

Zim thought for a moment. "Okay. The almighty ZIM will walk home with you." You smiled.

The both of you noticed Dib outside the school windows walking in the rain by himself. He looked a bit down.
You wanted to feel bad, but you couldn't help but be a little upset that he wasn't willing to get along with Zim. He wasn't so bad.

"I'll look in the lost and found for an umbrella, one sec." You told Zim, and walked inside the front office. To your luck. you found one old, beat up umbrella. It wasn't ideal, but it was something.

You walked out with the umbrella behind your back. "Hey Zim, guess what I found!" He focused his attention on you. You revealed the umbrella. "Ta-da!"

"...how nice. How exactly is that 'umbrella' going to help us?" Zim asked.

"It'll cover us from the rain! Meaning you won't get hurt." You smiled softly, and raised the umbrella above your heads. You grabbed Zim's hand. He wanted to tell you to get away from him, but a part of him felt nice.

"Let's get out of here." You said, and before you knew it the both of you were off.

Eventually, you reached Zim's base. "Well, I'll be going now." You announced. You handed the umbrella to Zim. "Keep this, just in case." You informed him.

"Eh? You're giving me this contraption? Why?"
"So you'll always be protected by the rain, of course!" You said, matter-of-factly.

He looked at the umbrella, then back at you.

"I could get used to this friendship thing." He said.
