Grand Canyon? More like Big Stupid Crack in the Ground
Thalia Grace's POV
Thalia really hated the Grand Canyon.
Created by her uncles, Poseidon and Hades, during a spat over who had the better wife, the Grand Canyon stood as one of the 7 modern wonders of the world.
And yet, despite all the hype, Thalia couldn't see what all the excitement was about.
It was a crack in the ground. Big deal. And the worst of it all was the depth of the Canyon.
Thalia felt that having her toenails yanked off while listening to Disney princess songs and watching Sophia the First on repeat would be worse than looking down.
That said something.
The reason why she was there? Thalia and the Huntresses were with Artemis on a hunt for the belt of Aphrodite, a wedding gift from Hephaestus.
It had the power to make any woman who wore it irresistible, and according to Artemis' sources, a spirit who had escaped the doors of death stayed behind and had been causing mischief in the city of Flagstaff, AZ.
So far, the Huntresses had traveled to the Grand Canyon from Montana when Thalia was notified by Katie, one of the younger but more reliable Huntresses.
Chiron has contacted the Hunters of Artemis, asking for help. A new prophecy had started, and Chiron suspected that the Huntresses would be a part of it.
This bit of news had caused the Huntresses to stay an extra 2 nights at the Grand Canyon, against Thalia's wishes, for they had to decide to help CHB or to obey Lady Artemis.
The obvious choice was to obey Lady Artemis, but with a new prophecy starting, the Incomplete Prophecy nonetheless, they decided to have the lieutenant and 2 others go to CHB while the rest of the Huntresses went off to search for Aphrodite's Girdle.
Thalia would've preferred looking for a magic belt than going on another quest. All that quests caused was death and destruction.
But she had to comply with the majority decision. Yay democracy. Thalia still hated the Grand Canyon by the time the left for Camp.
And so, to show her hatred, she spat at the Canyon before leaving with Katie and Susanna for Camp Half-Blood.

The cool moist morning air of Long Island greeted Thalia as she, Katie, and Sanna(One of Susanna's many nicknames) arrived at Camp Half Blood.
They'd been traveling 3 days and the satisfaction of finally getting to their destination was the only thing keeping the immortal girls awake.
Emma, daughter of Thalia, Muse of comedy and comedic plays, greeted and escorted the 3 Huntresses to the Artemis Cabin as they passed Thalia's tree.
"Chiron wants to see you all when you're done unpacking at the Big House." Emma told them as she opened the door to the cabin.
The girls threw a silver drawstring bag on each of their beds.
"We're done." Sanna told Emma. "Thanks for helping us. Goodbye."
Thalia looked at Sanna in displeasure. "Sus, we need to work on your people skills. I mean, even I have more charisma than you." She then turned to Emma.
"We are grateful for your time. Please escort us to the big house. Last time we were here the Ares and Nike cabins picked a fight with us that lasted 5 hours. I'd rather not have that again."
Emma nodded and ushered the girls out of their cabin.
Thalia felt the eyes of the campers follow her and the other huntresses as they walked to the Big House, which, to Thalia's surprise, was being repainted by the Hephaestus cabin while the Aphrodite and Athena campers decided on the colors and design.
Thalia could see that they were painting the house a snow white with a dark forest green accent color, which was refreshing compared to the faded baby blue from 1999. Sanna dodged a bucket of paint as they entered the Big House. Thalia walked down to the basement and saw everyone there. Her brother, Piper, Leo, Percy, Annabeth, Nico, Reyna, Will, Calypso, Rachel, Augustine, Hazel, Frank, and Chiron were in the basement. And on the table, next to the Cheez Whiz and Ritz crackers, was a silver mirror in an unlocked and open box.
Thalia picked up the mirror and inspected it carefully before looking at the campers.
"Which one of you amathés opened the box?"
Jason raised his hand sheepishly.
"I might've opened it........."
Thalia face-palmed.
"I would've expected Leo or Percy or even Piper to open it."
"Hey!" Percy, Leo, and Piper yelled in unison.
"But not you baby bro. What happened to being the responsible praetor of New Rome?"
"Guys, we need to focus on the situation at hand here." Annabeth interrupted. "Augustine, since you have the Incomplete Prophecy memorized, will you do us the honors of reciting it again?"
"Sure thing AC."
"Don't call me AC!"
"Whatever. Anyways, 'When the sky begins to fall
21 heroes, 13 demigod, 2 titanesses and 6 wizard, shall answer an enemy's call
Breaking age and time
They shall try to stop a crime
3 dead shall rise
But in the exchange of-' "
She stopped abruptly at "of".
"Ok, so lets break down the prophecy to get as much as we can out of it." Reyna suggested. "It says that 21 heroes, 13 of which are demigod, will go on this quest. If this was a normal quest, there would be little to no chance of us guessing who is supposed to go on this quest."
"But..." Piper asked questioningly, "This obviously isn't a normal quest. What are you hinting at Reyna?"
Reyna took a deep breath to compose herself before continuing. "I'm so sorry guys. I really am. But seeing how the past irregular quests have gone, I'd say there's a pretty good chance that we're part of the 13 demigods. Percy, Annabeth, Nico, Jason, you four have been on more quests than should've been possible. The probability that you four would be part of the incomplete prophecy is-"
"Extremely high." Nico finished Reyna's sentence for her. "And as for the rest?"
"Piper, Leo, Frank, Hazel, Thalia, Rachel, and Will have all been part of at least 1 major quest in these past few years. As for Augustine, she's new, but with the precision of accuracy of her predictions being the highest its been in centuries, I'd say there's something special about her. And Calypso definitely fits the questing experience requirement, except she'd go in the titaness category instead of demigod. That brings up another major question. As for myself, I cannot go if Frank is going. We don't want another Octavian." She looked at Augustine. "Sorry."
"No harm done. Let's refocus on the point you were trying to make earlier." Augustine assured.
"Who fills the other slots. Like the 6 'Wizards' , the other titaness, and the other 3 demigod slots?" Will asked. "Maybe by 'Wizard' they mean the children of Hecate?"
Calypso shook her head. "Then the prophecy would say 19 demigods and 2 titanesses. But it instead specifically separates them."
"Meaning that the 'Wizards' category is actually for wizards. Like the mythical kind." Hazel said quietly.
Everyone turned their heads towards Hazel.
"What do you mean, 'The mythical kind'? Aren't they just myths? Fairytails?" Annabeth asked questioningly.
"Well, no. Not exactly. If I remember correctly, Hecate mentioned several times during our private lessons that she had mortal students centuries ago, but they branched off. I'm assuming those mortals are the base of the mythical wizards we've heard of." Hazel explained.
"In all honesty, if Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and Norse...Oh gods. "Percy started. "Guys, what if not all the demigods are Greek and Roman? What if they're also Norse? I mean, the legend says something about the dead rising, right? What it means Annabeth's cousin and his friends? And the magicians could be Carter, Sadie, and their friends. It all makes sense!"
Everyone stopped. Percy made a really good point.
"I'll call Magnus." Annabeth said as she whipped out an iPhone 2. She looked at Chiron for approval. He sighed.
"As long as you're in the technology room, I think you'll be fine. After all, Ms. McLean has used your cellphone out near her cabin and we're still all alive."
Annabeth nodded gratefully as she ran up the basement stairs to the celestial-bronze covered room on the first floor.
"I think I remember how I called Carter last time.." Percy mumbled as he drew a symbol on his hand with his finger.
"Percy, I'm just going to say that you're being over-complicated. I'm just going to IM them." Frank said.
Ever since Percy introduced IM-ing to the Romans, they'd grown to use it almost as much as mortals used their mobile phones. And since denarii were cheaper to use, the Romans got a lot more charges out of their allowance than the average Greek.
Frank walked over to the public water fountain mounted on the wall, the one you'd see at any public school or airport, and tossed a silver denarii into the arch of moving water.
"Oh Fleecy, do me a solid. Show me Carter and Sadie Kane."
The spray of water floated up and turned into a fine mist, complementary of Percy. The mist showed the two siblings watching Merlin(A/N: BBC show, its actually pretty good. If you like wisecracks and arrogant princes who constantly are in danger) on the TV(A/N: Or telly, however you prefer). They had no idea the demigods were watching them. Jason, Thalia, and Leo decided to be a bit mean.
"HI WIZARDS! WE'RE ANCIENT SPIRITS WHO HAVE COME TO HAUNT YOU!" They shouted in unison, making the siblings jump in their seats in perfect sync, making Carter scream, "OH MY GOD WE'RE UNDER ATTACK!" while Sadie yelled, "BLOODY MARY SUE'S PIXIE DUST AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, THE QUEEN, AND THE HOLY GRAIL!"
When the sibling saw it was just the demigods...well, the less said the better.
"Well, after you pulled that stunt, I'd be surprised if these 3 wanted to try ever scaring 2 very capable wizards ever again." Sadie said triumphantly. "What do you lot want?"
"Hi Carter, Sadie." Chiron greeted. "We would like to have you 2 come down to Camp as soon as possible. It's about one of our most ancient and dangerous quests."
"Why are we involved? Aren't we part of entirely different pantheons?" Carter asked.
"The prophecy specifically talks about wizards, which neither the Greeks nor the Romans have. Well, none of which that aren't demigods. Do we need to bring out the obelisk for you two?"
"Yes, actually that would be so much easier than driving." Sadie said. "I'll go pack my suitcase."
"Or..." Carter drew out the word, making Sadie stop.
"Or what?"
"Or we could take Amos' boat. You know, the one we took from England."
"Carter, the drive from Brooklyn to Long Island is an 2 hours, tops. The boat is for international travel. Using it just for this would be stupid."
"Fine. What about Freak?"
"No way in bloody hell am I going to ride that death trap."
"But-"
The siblings waved goodbye to the demigods before swiping their hands through the mist, continuing their argument in secret.
Annabeth ran down the stairs, waving the phone.
"Magnus is on his way. He's coming alone. Something about pottery class and homeless people."
"I'll go get the obelisk." Frank volunteered.
"I'll go help him." Hazel said.
"Me too." Rachel agreed.
While they prepared for their guests, something tugged at Thalia's mind. Something important. Something everyone was missing. She just figure out what.
