Chapter 1

I screwed the piece of paper onto the floor. Of course they wanted more planets to conquer and Humans to spread. After the first six planets; Vulum, Stryix, Straindem, Warst, Kalak and my planet Jeodes was made 'habitable' by the Colonisation Plan they could have stopped. But tourists, those who went for prolonged pleasure but didn't stay to work, liked to explore the other planets and come and go whenever they pleased. It seemed Zinanus would be the next attraction that they would visit.

The Planet looked slightly different to Earth, that they were trying to recreate, but had the same kind of forestation which was what the Colonisation Plan was hoping for. Instead of the harsh but plentiful greens that there was on Earth, there were light blues, pinks, silvers and greys in the plant life.

The planet also had a twin, Arganus, whose orbit was so close to Zinanus that in the past it was captured by its gravity and now Zinanus and Arganus orbit each other whilst they orbit the sun.

My mother, who was of the Human race, had joined with my father who was of Jeodes and I was a Jeoman.

Due to the Jeodes genes that I had been born with, I could think telepathically with the other Jeodes and Jeomans, (not that there was many Jeomans). I have black stripes on my dark brown skin from my mother and had a pair of bold fiery orange wings that usually made the Humans a bit scared of me at times but the best thing about the hybridisation, in my opinion, was that I could breathe in most conditions that humans found poisonous but was home to the Jeodes.

Because of that I was one of the people that have been chosen to descend onto Zinanus in case it was poisonous to even me.

A sharp commanding tone began to talk to the crowd of gathered people that included me, about why we were actually here on this planet.

"Alright folks, you've read the mission script, it's time to start the mission. Twenty of you will be going and the rest will stay here, we have a building to construct, don't worry, you'll see the Elci'ns as you do so, or take the place of one of the others if they die."

"In a year's time we will be gathered here again and we will find out what we can do, each of you are tasked with something different, go to your duties, the chosen twenty, stay put." Our commander told us.

When the others had left to start constructing the commander began talking again.

"Alright chaps, in a few minutes some Elci'ns will be here, you will become one of their people and integrate. One word of advice, make sure you can fight."

With those encouraging words I saw five Elci'ns approach. Thankfully they were the same height as us, but with differences. Sure, they had a head, but long thin ears were pointed forward from their heads but swivelled listening all around them making the heads seem longer and thinner than they actually were and the black or green feather like protrusions rose from the tops of their foreheads and seemed to shiver at random intervals.

With their bodies being a light pastel green colour, with their silver hair, tips of tails and the same green colour wings they resembled a heavenly creature.

Looking away from their bodies I looked at their clothing and weaponry I decided that they weren't that civilised like my planet was, no electricity, machinery or heating, looked like I was going to have great fun in the winter.

The Elci'ns were clothed in something, I couldn't put my name on what it was but it looked familiar. Ah, yes, animal hides turned into clothing.

"Welcome New Creatures," one of them began to speak in a crude, but at least, for the most part, I was able to understand the imitation of our commander. "We Elci'ns, you with us we take, follow." The voice was very low and guttural, and though I could not see if both genders were present, I got the feeling that the Elci'n that spoke was a he.

I felt a pressure in my head, I knew what it was, someone trying to telepathically speak to me when I had shut my mind off.

Smiling I opened up my mind and listened to who was speaking to me. At once there was multiple communications talking to and others around me. The Elci'ns flooded me with warm emotions. They weren't speaking in words but years of practice meant that I knew that they were welcoming me, but weren't sure whether I would hear them. I greeted them back so they knew that I could hear them.

Almost instantly the Elci'ns' heads turned towards me and began making strange sounds out loud. Telepathically I could hear them cheering and that they were very happy with me.

The commander must have been happy with the Elci'n's responses because he handed each of us who were going with a rucksack that had a notepad, few writing pencils and a sketching pencil for drawings, as if I could draw though.

The Elci'n's positive thoughts kept drifting their way towards me and they were so infectious that I buzzed around feeling happy as we made our way to wherever we were going.

They were smart enough to not allow me to know what they were talking about and that annoyed me. I wanted to know.

Every now and again as we walked along the Elci'ns sometimes stopped to let us rest and eat before one of the Elci'n selected a few people and took them in a direction, splitting us up from the rest of the group. When the fourth Elci'n had taken people away with them I wondered what was going to happen to the five of us who were left.

Gradually as we walked, not talking any more as we became nervous, I began to feel a telepathic hum build up bigger and bigger in my head. I realised that we were walking towards a gathering of the Elci'ns.

I shut off my telepathic communication again when loud voices of the other four people began talking in my head. Though humans couldn't talk telepathically with others or Jeomans if their thoughts were strong or loud enough we Jeoman and Jeodes could hear them.

We must have reached a village or something because we came out from some particularly bushy trees and there was a hive of activity with many Elci'ns of different ages and sizes walking or running around.

As we walked through the village the Elci'ns stopped what they were doing and stared at us. I knew they were talking about us telepathically because the feathers on their heads were shivering.

An Elci'n strode towards us carrying a large stick in one of his hands, and the largest black feathers that I'd seen on an Elci'n trembling and long ears pointed to us, the Elci'n that had lead us here began speaking in their strange noises with the Elci'n before turning to us again.

A loud call from the large feathered Elci'n and four other Elci'ns came running to the man's side.

"Elcam to Elci Camp, you stay with us, protect you, you learn our way." The large fathered Elci'n spoke. My name is-" he made a loud noise-" your language, I am Elder Jedo'n, these are Warrior Bo, Lead Warrior Ha'n, Hunter-in-waiting Maple, Lead Hearth Fe'n"

As he spoke he pointed at a different Elci'n.

"Your names?" Jedo'n asked us.

"Dan"

"Mike"

"Moon"

"Lucy."

I, of course, was Moon.

Jedo'n spoke again. "Your names here are Da, Mi, Moo and Luci. You must learn with mentor, welcome." With that and a telepathic communication with his Elci'ns, Jedo'n walked away again to a building in which he disappeared into.

The five Elci'ns who were left walked over to each of us. I recognised the Elci'n Maple was the one who came to me. I opened up my telepathic communications again so that I could try to listen into what they were saying to each other but it turned out that Maple wanted to communicate with me that way anyway.

"Hello Moo, I am Hunter Maple. You can call me Maple when we're alone but when the others are around you must call me Hunter Maple." Maple thought to me.

"Hello Maple. Why am I not called Moon?" I asked.

"Nnn is important, you must earn it." Maple said.

"Is that why you don't have an nnn?" I questioned.

"No, I have not completed my training, when I have i'll be called Maple'n." Maple grinned proudly.

"So I'm guessing that you hunt?" I queried Maple.

She smiled and gave a noise out loud that I assumed was a laugh, "Yes, but that's only a small job that we have to do." She confirmed.

"What else do you have to do then?"

"I look after some of the animals, I can show you one now if you would like." Maple offered.

"What animals do you look after?" I answered.

Maple smiled wider. "We have many, but you'll learn all about them later, for now I shall show you a Kludae, every hunter must have one by the time he or she is ready to become a Hunter Elci'n but it depends on the Elci'n on what Kludae they bond with."

I was silent as I slotted this information in my head, I would have to remember this for later when I wrote it in my notebook.

Some loud snorting and whinnying alerted me to some animals up ahead and very faint greetings in my subconscious surprised me with how intelligent they were compared to the creatures on Jeodes.

"Don't try to talk to them inside," Maple tapped one of her light green feathers. "They are bonded with one Elci'n only. To have two bonded with the same Kludae causes only problems."

I nodded to show I had heard her and made a mental barrier to stop anyone apart from Maple to speak with me.

Maple turned off the main trail that we had been walking on onto a smaller but just as well used track. "This is the way to the Kludae who are going to give birth. My Kludae, Dae'n was going to give birth earlier today, you can meet her and the baby for the first time with me."

I smiled and saw large fencing marking the start of the enclosures where we stopped at the first animal. "This is Dae'n and her new baby."

Dae'n was a beautifully large animal, a creature that looked like a half horse and half bird hybrid from Earth, the home planet of the humans that should have stayed there.

Feathers sprouted along the body, the top of the tail that was long and flowing hair and only had a small almost balding effect where the mane should have been. In its place was two feathers, just like the Elci'n-but in its own colours, red with black stripes and a white stripe on one side.

It matched the body which they were attached to.

Before we came along Dae'n had been sleeping but when Maple spoke to her, shown by both their feathers twitching, she woke up and slowly made her way to Maple.

Maple, not an overly small Elci'n only came to its waist. The baby, once it too had wandered over, was the size of me, who was smaller than Maple and the baby was only a day old.

"Dae'n is one of the biggest Kludae there is, there are other Kludae that are the size of a half Elci'n." Maple reassured me with a smile when I took a step back guessing why I had correctly.

"What are you going to name the baby?" I changed the subject.

Maple's expression changed to a sombre sad mood as she looked at the baby."It is a Kludbae, it cannot make a bond with us. We shall raise it to adulthood then eat it." Maple told me.

"Is this normal?" I demanded in shock.

Maple nodded. "Yes, those who can make no bonds cannot be controlled fully, it is only fair that what we create that we do not want, we eat so it is not wasted." She told me calmly.

I realised that this must happen on a regular basis and although I didn't like it, I was here to learn, that was it.
