Chapter 2
FIONA's POV
We heard the bell jiggling.
"You have four days to complete your assignment. Thank you" Mr. Edward walked away.
Everyone began to leave with their partners, some were excited because they got paired with their friends while others were upset. I didn't know how to feel right now.
I hastily picked up my bag and joined the crowd moving as fast as I could.
"Hey! Are you Fiona?" I heard a voice and slowly turned.
"Yes," I said nodding.
"This one doesn't look smart either" he whispered to his friends behind.
"She's got a computer brain," Jack laughed.
"Yeah Fiona is not human at all" Dylan chipped in with a chuckle.
I inhaled inwardly, for a second I thought they were serious.
"Hmm... impressive. So when do we start? I'd be busy on Saturday, but I have nothing to do by 2 pm"
"Okay, I'd be free too" I turned to leave.
"We don't even know the meeting place" he sneered with a glare as I turned back to him, internally eaten up by my embarrassment.
There was a moment of silence before Louis spoke.
"Any suggestions? My house is not available"
"Same"
Dylan and Jack hopped to the middle with smiling faces, looking at both of us.
"You can exchange numbers for easier communication. My partner already has our numbers. Right, Dylan?"
"Of course," he nodded.
Dylan and Jack pulled us to the exit until we were out of the school building.
"Good luck with the assignment" Dylan and Jack waved as they walked away. When they were out of sight my fingers kept tapping my legs and my eyes fixed downwards.
"My number is private, I can't give it now gimme yours instead"
I was about to oppose him and tell him mine was private too but in order not to make things hard for myself, I gave it to him before we parted ways.
"What a day" I blurted out to myself as I sank further into the bed.
After freshening up for the afternoon I took lunch then did all my homework except art.
I rested on my wooden table, my eyes moved to the black pencil tilted to the right, it was on my uncompleted drawing of a dress.
"I have more work to do!" I raised my head like I was bitten by soldier ants and began to finish up.
Tomorrow I have to go to the restaurant, salon and fashion house to work. Plus start my art assignment. My body suddenly became weaker as I remembered.
When I went to my kitchen to prepare my dinner, I opened the wooden brown cupboards to look for vegetables but I couldn't find any.
I checked the time, it was 6 pm, I opened the windows raising my head to the sky, it was a full moon, I quickly wore a long jacket on my clothes and wrapped my hair with a scarf before running to the market.
When I went there the supermarket was crowded. I went to the fruits and vegetable section to pick some, after half an hour it was my turn.
After paying, my eyes flickered to the
gleaming face of my watch, it ticked
7:30
"No, It will happen soon."Holding my groceries tightly, I ran as fast as I could, bypassing people and objects in my way.
I tripped and fell, quickly packed the few things on the floor then continued. I felt like I was forgetting something but I didn't look back for a second.
I slammed the door behind me followed by a sigh of relief. I dropped the bags in the kitchen before returning to the room.
I laid on my bed, staring at the white ceiling, my eyes narrowed to the brown bed lamp beside me. I walked to my brown chair but paused halfway, my head looked in the mirror.
My waist-length blonde hair turned silver then grew to my ankle, my skin glows and becomes paler, a blue diamond on my forehead. I'm a Salvin, the hybrid of Glorindians and Elevanas. I can barely remember what my parents looked like.
"It's not fun being different" I exhaled then stared at myself again.
My Salvin form reveals itself by midnight but it comes much earlier during a full moon. It disappears after an hour but it's four hours during a full moon.
After dinner, I hugged my knees under my blanket waiting for this horrible dream to end.
I jumped as I heard my alarm ring.
"Oh, it's just my phone" I yawned, then rested on my pillow again. It rang again, I rubbed my sleepy eyes and looked at the screen. It was an unknown number which means I must not answer. It rang for the third time, I grabbed my phone with my eyebrows furrowed then checked the time, it was 7 am.
"Who calls by seven?"I breathed heavily and answered.
"Who is this?"
"Are you still in bed?"
"...I believe I just asked a question"
"It's Louis"
"Oh! Louis"
I forgot about the assignment. I wasn't even ready for the day.
"Meeting place?" he interrupted my thoughts.
"Ahh... How about Dian's street for now, I've not thought about the place yet"
"Okay"
"Wait! It's still 2 pm right?"
"Yes, don't be late" he hung up
I stared at the phone like it was him. He's rude but right.
I quickly got ready and left the house.
Mrs. Rita is the owner of the five-star restaurant "Golden sweetness"
It has a large parking space with natural trimmed trees, gates and doors made of gold, the three-story building is covered in shining black tiles and golden windows.
Inside the building is gold. Chandeliers, chairs, tables, walls, floor and ceiling. Although they all had a touch of silver except the floor.
The kitchen is white, its size is like the combination of four rooms. Security cameras are everywhere to monitor our actions, all the best cooks in the city work either part-time or fully.
We all have shifts and the number of hours determines your salary. I already told Mrs. Rita that I'd be staying for only an hour this Saturday.
I'm given more privilege than the rest because I'm much younger and still go to school. After an hour I took permission again before I left.
I went to 'Magnificent fashion house' immediately, it is owned by Miss. Mavis, she's one of the most successful women in the world just like Mrs. Rita.
She put me in charge of the designs, according to her I have a good creative brain.
It is an enormous five-story building painted white and has her logo at the top.
The floors have the front part made of mirrors to attract customers, the unique designs are hidden until the day of the pageant.
"Good morning Mrs. Rita, I finished them,"I said, taking out all my designs.
She took the papers and went through one after the other then raised her head with a smile.
"Good job Fiona, they are lovely"
I grinned feeling relaxed now that I was almost done with my work for today.
I left shortly after telling her. The salon was my last stop. It is a pink two-story building. Mrs. Feng once said the unusual color is what makes "Bouquet style" have many customers but I believe is because of the skills and high-quality service.
When a customer steps in they are welcomed with the cool breeze from the air conditioners, after explaining what they want the staff escort them to a seat, flat screens are everywhere for entertainment and a small corner where cold drinks are sold.
I was amazed by the crowd this Saturday morning, it was twice the number of our daily consumers, we had to be fast and meticulous.
Mrs. Feng was outside trying to calm waiting customers, but they were somewhat mad. After a few hours gradually the number of people outside became smaller until everyone was settled.
"Oh no! Art assignment" I stared at the clock above, after attending to my last customer I begged my boss to allow me to leave and she did.
"Louis will be so mad" I hung my bag over my head running to the meeting place as fast as I could.
