I would never forget that day. The irony of the weather displeased my true feelings and the memories of what happened that night continued to flood my conscience. Everyone was giggling joyful blessings as the groom stood in place of me. Zen's hands started fidgeting as his bride made her appearance on the aisle. I turned and see his face and he was in awe. Absolute and complete awe.
I blindly stood next to him as his best man and the entire reception flew by as one big blur.
"Now everyone give it up for the best man, Jumin Han." Yoosung cheered and I looked at him.
I slowly stood up and looked over at [y/n] who was happily laughing in her husband's embrace. I cleared my throat and grabbed my glass as I rose it in the air. Everyone followed with merry cheers and I smiled slightly.
"A toast to the groom and the bride. From your best friend who will always be by your side."
A loud cheer roared from the guests as they clapped at my salute to their forever union.
It was at that moment when I felt a sudden ping at my heart and cleared my throat.
"Now I must see myself outside for a little while. Carry on."
I calmly walked out the doors and stumbled down the stairs of the church. I made my to the fountain and sat on the edge, staring at my reflection. The sun hid behind the mountains as reds, pinks, oranges, and purples stretched among the sky.
"You idiot."
"Welcome to the RFA party!" She beamed and I widened my eyes at her beauty.
I raced over to her and she smiled slightly. She bowed and was then swept from me again by the commotion.
I spun around on my heels and saw a few women pointing at me then whispering in suppressed smiles and snickers. I bowed towards them as they scoffed at me and walked away.
I made my way to the balcony and stared at the night sky. I looked over and saw her standing away from me. Her focus was locked onto the stars and she let out a relieved sigh.
"You strike me as a man who's never been satisfied." She said after turning my way.
"I'm sure I don't what you mean. You forget yourself." I replied to her comment, satisfied in the attention I received.
"You're like me. Never satisfied my dear."
"Is that right?"
"I mean. I've never been satisfied."
"My name is Jumin Han."
"[y/n] [l/n]."
"Where is your family from love?"
"Unimportant." She chuckled and moved her body against mine. "But there's a million things I haven't done."
It was at this moment when I realized I met my match. She smiled and I forgot all the stress and pains that I previously held. I grabbed her wrist and she looked at me.
"I wanna take you far away from this place."
She laughed at my request and pulled away from me gently.
"Nice going." She swayed away from me back into the party.
I attempted to follow her to collect more information. I turned and saw Zen's face and he was helpless. And I know he was. His eyes were helpless also. I realized my place as the heir to my father's company.
Zen approached me, oblivious to our previous meeting, and he grabbed my arm.
"Yo this is one mine Jumin."
I widened my eyes and looked at her. I nodded to myself and walked over to her.
"Where are you taking me?"
"I'm about to change your life."
"Then by all means, lead the way."
I weaved her through the crowd with her hand in mine with the knowledge that this was going to be the only time I could hold her hand.
"Hyun Ryu. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"Ryu?" She questioned, slightly puzzled.
"Zen." I clarified and smiled.
"Thank you for all your service for the RFA." Zen kissed her hand and I looked at MC.
She glanced at Zen's blush and turned around, hiding in the crowd. [y/n] smiled at Zen's gratitude and she nodded her head.
"If it takes planning a party for us to meet, it will have been worth it." She bowed and I cleared my throat once again.
"I'll leave you to it." I rushed away to find MC.
She sat on the steps outside and I sat next to her.
"Jumin why did you do that?"
"MC we must make sacrifices."
"You knew I loved him."
"MC, my dear, he looked into her eyes and the sky was the limit."
She wiped her face and looked at me.
"I saw the way you two got along on the balcony."
Her statement was a sudden shot to the heart. I smiled and laughed.
"Nah it was nothing. If I were to marry [y/n], it'd be for my status. I'm a man in a world in which my only job is to marry rich. My father has no other sons so I'm the one who has to social climb for one. I'm the heir to the company."
She set her hand on mine and intertwined her fingers in the crevasses.
That excuse was no reason to lower my desire for her. Just because she was penniless didn't mean I wanted her any less.
"I know Jumin."
"And she's after me because I'm a Han. That'd elevate her status which would force me to be naïve if I were to set that aside. Another reason I introduced her to Zen. Now that's her groom."
She shook her head.
"The real reason is you know Zen like your own mind. You would never find anyone as trusting or kind. If you ever told him that you loved her, he'd say 'I'm fine.' and allowed to have her. You know he'd be lying though. And you'd rather have you feeling this pain than him."
I clutched her hand as we sat on the steps both dissatisfied.
"She did help a lot, didn't she?" I asked and MC nodded.
I clutched my head at the memory of losing her. I looked up and saw MC smiling slightly as tears streamed down her face.
"It hurts a lot." She whispered with a quiver in a voice.
"My chest is caving in." I chuckled lightly and she ran into me with a hug.
"I am so sorry. You're hurting because of me. If I were more desirable, Zen would've wanted me and not her." MC sobbed and I stroked her head.
"It's not your fault my love."
I kissed her head and set my gold banded finger on her shoulder. The diamond on her ring reflected the moon's light and she clutched my hand as she once before.
"We're in this marriage together." She smiled through the pain as she always did.
"No matter what."
I loved her.
I also loved [y/n].
She loved Zen.
As did MC.
Zen loved [y/n].
[y/n] loved Zen.
She also loved me.
I proved my disinterest in her when I proposed to MC and the pained expression across her face diminished as she settled for Zen.
"We'll never be satisfied." She laughed at the irony and sat next to me.
She laid her head on my shoulder and she hugged my arm.
"You'll never be satisfied."
