18 Trouble in the Dorms

Yousef smiled proudly as the science teacher strolled around the class. He waited patiently for the teacher to come over and check his answer. He knew it was right. The teacher was going to think he's smart now for sure.

"Okay class, who can answer question four?" the tall teacher asked loudly. A few hands shot up, including Yousef's.

"Boys in the front, stop talking!" the teacher ordered. "Write the answer down. It's ecosystem."

Yousef groaned; what was the use of trying so hard to make the teacher notice him? He decided to give up and sleep instead.

"Now answer questions five till eight. I'm coming around to check! Okay? Did you hear me, Hamza?"

"Ya ya ya," Hamza answered, waving his hand dismissively. The teacher frowned then walked around the noisy class.

"Good job. Answer the rest," he told Ismail. He then saw Yousef who had his head on the table.

"Come on, now! Why aren't you working? Put your head up!" he questioned. Yousef woke up from his sleep and glared at the teacher then looked away.

'Ufff I hate him. Why does he only notice me when I'm not working?' he sulked silently.

Meanwhile, in the 8-A classroom, Badr was looking forward to something. History was a very boring lesson to Badr, so he decided to let one of his friends from Nuport know about his plan.

"Today is gonna be so awesome," Badr swung his chair backward to talk to the guy behind him, Ghassan.

"Why?" Ghassan asked curiously, leaning forward.

"Yousef and I are going to the Nuport dorms and we are going to explore it!"

"Well, I live there, so yeah...it's pretty cool. You won't be able to go in though."

"Why not?"

"Just cause. The-"

"BADR! GHASSAN!" their history teacher shouted furiously. "Stop talking! And let me continue!"

"Okay miss!" Badr grinned. After she turned around, he swung backward again.

"Repeat?"

"As I was saying," Ghassan continued. "The guards over there apparently don't let anyone without a card pass to enter."

"What's a card pass?"

"A card...that makes you pass? I don't know, but once I forgot it, and that donkey-brained 'security' kicked me out. He let Ahmed in, but even when Ahmed showed him his ID, which is identical to mine, he still would not let me inside!" Ghassan told Badr, getting annoyed as he remembered what he had to go through a few weeks ago.

"So annoying!" Badr cringed. "Why are they so strict? I'm not gonna steal anything if I go in."

"I don't know! They keep saying you guys are 'peasants'," Ghassan rolled his eyes.

"Me? Hahaha. I'll show them later. I'll go in."

"Good luck, hope the donkey doesn't catch you."

They raised their heads at their teacher only to see her glaring at them.

"Go out, both of you."

"But miss-" they started.

"Not a word. OUT!"

The bell rang as Yousef packed his books. He grabbed his lunch bag and stormed out the corridor. He had a sullen expression on his face and he was in the mood of ripping his books.

"Ow, ah sorry." a female voice resounded in his ear. A cinnamon brown-haired girl dropped to the floor, with her books scattered beside her.

Yousef kneeled down to pick up her books. "Sorry," he apologized.

"Tha-thank you! No need to help me," the girl blushed. Her pearl hair tied braids hung under her shoulder.

"It's nothing," Yousef stared into her gracious eyes. "What's your name, by the way?"

"Me? Uh, I-I am Abeer." The thing is that she already knew his name but was nervous to ask. "You-your name?"

"Yousef," his golden hair twinkled under the lights above them. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

"Nice to meet you, and thank you so much!" Abeer thanked repetitively.

Yousef and Abeer dashed down the stairs and Abeer kept on thanking Yousef again.

"Oh, um, by the way, I've seen you before in the-the r-r-reading club."

"Yeah, I think I remember." Abeer dusted off her skirt that covered her curvy thighs. She thanked him several times and Yousef accompanied her to the cafeteria. They spent some of the break together before Yousef joined Badr and Malak later that break. They chattered for a while.

"In music today, we learned how to play 'Take Me To The Sky'," shared Malak. "What about you, Badr? Anything new you learned in clubs?"

"Yes!" responded Badr. "I learned many new tricks in roller-skating! I need to show you sometime!"

"Oh hello, Malak!" a familiar eager voice was heard.

Malak turned around, surprised. She hurried over to the English teacher, who was teaching her for the second year.

"Yes miss?"

"I see you have been hanging out with friends? What are your names again, Badr and Yousef?"

Malak was a little shocked, nevertheless she smiled, "Yeah. It's so fun around them!"

"That's nice to hear," Ms. Rania said sweetly. "I hope you stay good friends!"

"Me too!"

"Make sure you stay with them. Now I don't ever want to see you walking around alone okay? Don't be shy!"

"Yes!" Malak exclaimed. With that Ms. Rania headed to the other direction.

The three of them hung out that break then Badr said goodbye to Yousef and Malak. The fourth and fifth lessons went by quickly for everyone, especially Yahya. When the bell rang, he met up with his friends and they all swaggered to the cafeteria like they owned the place.

Once the group entered the crowded cafeteria, they sat in their usual place to hang out and play games. Some of them took out their phones and started using them, not caring about any teacher that was supervising by. Since Yahya and his closest friend Awad didn't have phones yet, they decided to amble around the cafeteria to find something to do.

"Pfft, look at that girl!" Awad whispered to Yahya, pointing at a bespectacled girl who was trying to carry many things at once. She dropped her apple and her pencil case because she was focusing on not losing her books.

"Hahaha!" Yahya laughed loudly. He kicked the girl's pencil case while smirking widely.

While Yahya was busy having fun, Badr and Yousef were discussing their plans while waiting for Malak to finish from the bathroom.

"By the way Yousef...should we tell Malak to come with us?" Badr proposed.

"No. I don't think she'll agree to go there. Did you see how reacted when we went to the haunted room?" Yousef shook his head in refusal.

"Yeah...but she showed us the secret way to the forest remember?"

"Still...imagine how sad she'll become if we get in trouble. It's better that she doesn't know. Or else she'll overreact like she did last time."

"Ah I see...okay then!" Badr agreed.

In the club room, Mohamad informed the others that he still did not find a ship to rent or buy. But he promised that he would find one after their final exams.

"Don't worry...I'll find one before the second term begins," Mohamad assured them. "But I'm really disappointed that we haven't done anything yet. If the supervisor finds out he'll fire me," he sighed sadly. There was silence after he said that. Everyone knew that this club was basically useless.

"Before finals, let's all go shopping together!" Donia attempted to lighten up the mood. Then she added: "Since Mohamad, Yasmin and I are shopping for more furniture to add to our house..."

"But I have to find a ship to sail to Estermage Island!" Mohamad protested.

"Oh come on do that later. You have been so busy with the club; let's take a little break for now. AND BE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT OUR HOUSE FOR ONCE!"

"Okay! Okay!"

"Oh and after we've finished setting up our house, we'll invite you all as guests for a whole day," Donia said while turning to the kids. They all nodded their head in agreement.

Later that Thursday, Badr and Yousef changed into their casual clothes and prepared to go to the high-class student dorms.

"Let's go Badr!" Yousef was ready and excited to go there. He had his recently bought skateboard in his hand.

"Yeah!" Badr maneuvered across the brick floor.

"So, when are you gonna buy the roller skate boots you told me about?" asked Yousef.

"When I have enough points!" Badr replied while running fast along with Yousef. "Show me how you ride your skateboard!"

"Hmm, okay," Yousef threw his skateboard under his feet and strolled at the same pace as Badr on the sidewalk.

"Woah!" Badr exclaimed. They moved past the school gates and continued until they reached their destination.

Badr and Yousef walked over to the entrance of the dorms. The metal black gate was surrounded with two high-quality brick columns. There was a guard, dressed in security clothes, that was standing by the gate. The gate itself was open so Badr and Yousef just casually went inside.

"Wait. Show me your ID pass!" The security guard appeared in front of them.

"Run!" Yousef shouted. But before they could escape, the security grabbed them and threw them out.

"It's no use. We can't enter. What a pain!" Yousef sighed as he turned his back while crossing his arms.

"Yeah...they always want special cards," Badr agreed.

"Haha that reminds me...remember when we sneaked into the airport lounge in Rimor?"

"Hahaha yeah!" Badr reminisced the memories of last year.

After a while, Yousef wondered: "What do we do now though? Do you think there are any other entrances?"

"Let's check," suggested Badr.

The duo sprinted about the dorm grounds. They ran around the sparkling wall gates that were decorated with lamp posts.

"There is nothing!" Badr exclaimed with a worried look on his face. "What do we do now?"

Badr and Yousef stared at each other for a while, thinking of how to get in. They suddenly had an idea.

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Badr's eyes were mischievous.

"Of course," Yousef smirked deviously.

They came across one of the wall gates. The orange bronze brick wall was a little high. Nevertheless Badr stuck his foot on one of the bricks that were sewn into the wall and jumped over it. Simultaneously, Yousef jumped with his skateboard and hovered over the wall. They landed at the same time.

"You jump pretty high!" Yousef commented, amused by how Badr did it.

"You too!" Badr returned the compliment, which made a smile form on Yousef's face. They moved in between the bushes to reach the brick road that was partly draped with trimmed grass.

Badr and Yousef stood in amazement at the place. It was very luxurious from its wide area to its huge houses.

"Wow...all of this is just the dorms?" Badr's eyes widened at the sight of the extravagant building halls. They scurried along the road extending to the stairs that led to the main residence building. Instead of entering it, they went back to see what was around.

They passed many places that had oak framed rafters shading the chairs and tables under them. The whole place looked very neat and taken care of even though many students were using it. Badr and Yousef roamed around like lost dogs among the high-class students.

Next they headed over to explore the swimming pool. They glued their eyes and noses to see through the glass door. The pool was very clean and fancy with all the lounger chairs, balconies, and see-through glass windows. The rafters were decorated with lights and along with the windows, allowing natural light to flow in.

"What the hell? They have a huge swimming pool and their dorms are so clean! They're so lucky! We don't have any of this!" Badr pointed out. A while later, he realized the reason behind this unfairness. He still owed the school tons of money after all, and he had to pay all the loans after graduation−that is, if he got a job−or he'll end up in jail.

Then they ran back to take a look at the cafeteria that the Nuport students had. The cafeteria itself was more like a buffet restaurant. Badr and Yousef stood at the entrance where a sign read 'Open from 6:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M.'

Badr averted his gaze and spotted a short middle-aged man walking towards them. He nudged Yousef.

"Look there," Badr pointed at the man, who was now only a few feet away from them.

"Don't point!" Yousef warned as the man stood before them.

"Who are you?" he questioned suspiciously.

"None of your business..." Yousef muttered.

"What did you say?"

"Uh...okay maybe we have to leave?" Badr said awkwardly.

"Are you from Rimor?" queried the man. "I haven't seen you here before."

"Yeah, we're from Rimor, so bye!" Badr quickly sprinted at full speed towards the gates. The two boys rushed past the guards and didn't stop running until they reached their dorms. They stopped to catch their breaths.

"Phew, that was close!" Badr breathed. "But really fun!"

"Yeah, it was," agreed Yousef.
