Legacy Protection Squad
~Jaehee's POV~
When I finally arrived at the penthouse, carrying plenty of unfinished paperwork in my hands, and followed the head of security to find my boss, I was met with a slightly and uncharacteristically worried Jumin Han standing outside one of the guest rooms. Studying the look of concern on his face, I had to pinch myself to check if I was dreaming.
"Sir?" The head of security called Mr. Han's attention and gestured towards me standing behind him. "Jaehee Kang is here to see you."
Mr. Han gave a brief nod then dismissed the man. I stepped towards Mr. Han with a questioning gaze. Instead of explaining everything to me right away, he turned around to face the door.
As usual, he ignores me. Mr. Han was never the type to tell me what he is doing or what he was planning in that head of his. Everything is always coming at me unexpectedly. Sometimes I wonder to myself how I always manage my way around things.
"Legacy? I brought Assistant Kang. Open the door."
Mr. Han knocked twice before we heard the familiar clicking sound of the lock. He looked over at me before opening the door to the guest bedroom.
I was still somewhat frozen in surprise to have witnessed that my boss was actually concerned about something other than his spoiled princess of a cat. I looked inside the room and was even more surprised to find a crying girl curled up in a bundle of blankets.
"Is that...?" I turned to Mr. Han quizzically and he nodded in response.
Looking back at the girl, I slowly reached out to her and touched her face to make sure she wasn't some sort of illusion. "Legacy...?"
The moment the name left my lips, the figure looked up and I was met with teary eyes. Her cheeks and nose were a bit pink and she couldn't stop herself from hiccuping. How long had she been crying like this?
"J-Jaehee...?"
Her voice asked in a hush whisper like she was afraid of someone hearing her. I didn't hesitate to drop what I was holding and hugged her tightly. That was when Legacy began to cry even harder. So we stayed like that for a few minutes until she calmed down a bit more.
"Legacy, why are you here in Mr. Han's house?" I directed my question at Legacy, but couldn't help glancing at Mr. Han for some sort of explanation from him as well. "How long was she here for?"
"Not long," He replied with a shrug. "And why did that question sound like I'm keeping her as hostage?"
"I'd rather not speak my mind about that, Mr. Han," I told him and awkwardly looked away to try avoiding the topic.
By the time I looked down at Legacy in my arms, I was surprised to find her already fast asleep. Her breathing sounded calmer now than it had seconds ago when she was crying.
"She must have been very tired to fall asleep that quickly," Mr. Han commented. "Or maybe she just feels safe around you, Assistant Kang?"
"Me?" I laughed, gently tucking Legacy in bed. "We have never met each other before this, Mr. Han, so I doubt that she would feel that way..."
"I think otherwise. Why else would she have wanted to see you then?" He said. "We don't know much about Legacy's past. But she seems to trust us more now than when we had first met her. For Seven to break that trust makes me feel...irritated."
I nodded quietly, unable to say anything. It was very strange for Seven to go that far with his jokes. I never would have thought he was that sort of man at all.
"Mr. Han, does Seven know that she is here?" I asked him.
He shook his head No, then sighed, "Yoosung knows and will be visiting her later. I instructed him not to tell Seven about her whereabouts and I think you should do the same. Unless Legacy wants him to find her, of course."
I agreed instantly, for once, to his decision. This was probably the first time that we had ever been on the same terms over something. I looked over at Legacy's sleeping face and silently prayed for her, hoping that she would become happy again.
It wasn't very long since she joined us in the RFA, but it feels like I've known her for years. What is this feeling I am experiencing? I never had many friends because of my personality when it came to my work so this would be a first for me.
Perhaps this was the feeling of what friendship is? But... Does Legacy consider me as her friend?
That I wish to know.
I picked up the fallen papers that I had dropped and sat down on a nearby desk to do my work; while Mr. Han sat down beside Legacy and kept an eye on her. It really was a shock to see him so transfixed on someone before. Mr. Han doesn't have feelings for Legacy, does he?
Shaking the ridiculous thoughts out of my head, I tried to focus on my task. I knew Mr. Han didn't like being around women very much because of his father's multiple girlfriends. I could always see the disgust on his expression whenever he sees a new woman beside the chairman. Although it was understandable that because of that, it triggered his irritation with those types of people so I never say anything about it.
Legacy... She isn't that type of person too, is she?
No, no. I want to believe that she isn't. I want to believe that Legacy is different from that.
But whatever kind of person she is, I know that the man she fell in love was not Mr. Han, and sadly he knows that too.
