[Day 8] Unknown's gift

~707's POV~

We arrived at the penthouse pretty late. My eyes were getting tired since I hadn't had any sleep today. I glanced at Legacy to check if she was asleep, but she was still staring out the window like she had done for the past few minutes. It looks like she wasn't going to be talking to me any time soon...

"We're here," I announced and parked the car just front of the main entrance.

Yoosung was sitting outside as if he was waiting for our return. Or, more likely, for Legacy's return.

"Legacy!! Why did you leave without telling us?" Yoosung ran to her with tears pouring from his eyes like waterfalls. "We thought you had been kidnapped or something!"

I looked towards Legacy and felt a little sad when I saw her smiling at him. She reached out and petted his head as if he were a puppy.

"I'm sorry, Yoosung," She said. "I was trying to avoid you worrying about me, but I ended up doing so anyway. Heh."

Jumin and Jaehee came out, unhappy to see my face. I frowned back at them, glaring at Jumin the most.

"So she really was with you this whole time. Why did you lie?" I interrogated him angrily. "Don't you know what could have happened if I wasn't there at the right time?! She could have died!"

Jumin always kept his composure, even at times like these. But something about him was a little different today. He was looking at me coldly, like he was trying to burn holes into my skull with his piercing gaze. It was unsettling, but nothing compared to what I handle on a daily basis from the agency.

"I'm going to go back to the apartment to fix the security system," I told them. "Don't let Legacy out of your sight. We're in a dangerous situation right now since the hacker managed to mess with the special security system. If Legacy was still inside that apartment then things would have been more complicated..."

"C-Complicated? What do you mean?" Yoosung looked at me worriedly.

"...Let's just say that it was lucky that she ran off when she did." I replied.

Legacy watched me quietly as I walked back to the car. She looked like she wanted to say something to me. I turned around and tilted my head, silently asking her what she wanted.

"Um, there's something I have to get from the apartment. Unknown said he sent me a gift..." She looked down, avoiding eye contact. "If I can't go back to the apartment now then can you bring it over please?"

Gift? That sounded really suspicious. If the hacker knows the address to the apartment, given that he led Legacy there himself, he could have easily visited her whenever he wanted.

Not wanting for her to come along with me if I refused, I gave in to her request. However before I would give her whatever it was the hacker sent her, I should check it first to make sure it was safe.

I drove back to Rika's apartment, various thoughts swirling around my mind. My eyes desperately tried to keep themselves open. I was a little tired, but that wasn't exactly something new in my daily life. After amounts of pressure and lack of sleep handed to me by the agency, this was only a minor issue.

"But it looks like Legacy really did run away from the apartment, huh. Was she that upset?" I wondered to myself. "I thought that since she wasn't really attached to me before, it would be okay to break it off now while she wasn't exposed to any danger. I did that to protect her but...she became upset. Was Zen and the others right about Legacy liking me back?"

If she did then I understand why she would be upset with me, but she didn't have to run away unannounced like that. I seriously panicked when I found out she never came back...

I remembered leaving the house after that. I managed to escape with the help of my fire-breathing robot dog. It wasn't as useless as I thought it would be. Vanderwood didn't really look happy when I left though... The agency is going to have my head for running off. I doubt they'll come to trust me after that.

Parking the car a block away from the building, I headed to Rika's apartment with my hacking equipment to fix the security system. When I reached the 14th floor I saw a gift box sitting just outside the door.

"Is that what the Unknown person left her?"

It was small and rectangular in shape, but I'd rather not risk Legacy's safety. I carefully picked up the gift and unwrapped it.

"Uhh... This is...?" I lifted the item from inside the box and inspected it. The gift was a pair of yellow eyeglasses with black stripes, similar to mine. "Why the hell would the hacker give her glasses..?"

Deciding that the gift was safe, I put it away and began to hack into the special security system. Occasionally, I would look over at the pair of glasses as if waiting for it to explode. But nothing like that happened.

"Strange. Too strange..." I murmured to myself, feeling very uneasy. "That Unknown.. I wonder what he wants from her."
