Chapter 10: coffee shop
You were at work finishing getting your uniform on and then you went to your station and started making your specialty!
"Afternoon malady." Nathan greeted you as he walked in and then bowed exaggeratingly.
"Good afternoon dear sir!" You responded with a curtsy and a slight blush. You both laughed before going back to 'normal'.
"So what's on the menu today?" He asked eyeing what you were baking.
"Something delicious for the customers." You slapped his hand away from the cookie dough. He looked hurt then stuck out his tongue in a playful manner and walked out of the room with a humph!
"Oh, and by the way, we've got a bunch of newbies coming in today." He poked his head through the door.
"What!?" But he left quickly so he wouldn't feel your wrath.
Newbies=training
Training=more work
More work=......more work T-T
Oh well.
You thought.
Just have to get it done no matter what.
~
"I'm DONE." You said completely exhausted.
"You said it," Nathan said taking a seat next to you in the break room. Your shoulders barely touched each other but it still made you a bit flustered to be so close to him.
"I hate it when newbies come in~" You complained with a sigh.
"Me too. Considering the fact that we're the only ones who know how everything works around here since we've worked here longer." Nathan said before taking a drink from his water bottle.
"Want some?" He offered. You nodded a yes and took a sip.
"And you know what? I think our boss takes advantage of that to bring more people in." You put the cap back on the bottle and said thank you.
"Well, that's fine with me as long as you don't go." Nathan said while not making any eye contact whatsoever with you.
You were actually pretty glad he said that and you were about to say something but,
"Um, sorry to intrude." One of the newbies came in. "Someone is looking for you Y/n."
Right, since they're new, they call me by my name.
"For me?" You asked confused.
"Yeah, it's a woman and two other guys, one has really white ha-" He didn't even get to finish his sentence because you already knew who it was and ran out.
Damn it they're early!
Once you were getting close to their table, you slowed down and calmly made your way to them.
"Hey, guys!" You greeted.
"Y/n!" Zen was the first to speak up.
"So this is Y/n?" Said Yoosung. "She's prettier than I thought!" He added with a smile. You blushed slightly.
"T-Thank you."
"It's nice to see you again Y/n." Jaehee greeted formally.
"It's nice to see you too." You smiled at her politely.
"Hey M-" Nathan began.
"M&M's? I'd love some!" You said quickly before Nathan said your nickname.
"Um...okay? We can get some later. I just wanted to know why you just ran out like that." Nathan asked honestly worried about you.
"Oh, it's just that...these are my friends." You quickly introduced him to the others. "This is Jaehee, Zen, and Yoosung."
"Hi! Nice to meet you all." Nathan said with a sincere smile. They all waved and then brought their focus back on you.
"So why are you guys here early?" You asked trying to make conversation.
"Jaehee wanted a cup of coffee before we head out." Answered Yoosung.
"Wait, how long have you guys been here already?" You asked.
"About 15 minutes." Zen answered this time.
"I just love the coffee they brew here." Jaehee said with satisfaction written all over her face.
"Well, this guy right here is the one who prepares it!" You put your hand on Nathan's shoulder making him jump slightly at the sudden contact, but you didn't notice this action.
"Really??"
"Y-Yeah." He answered a bit flustered. "My dad is the one who taught me."
"Well, it really is very delicious. Congratulations." Jaehee said while taking the last sip from her cup.
"Thank you." Nathan looked pleased.
"Well, we should get going now shouldn't we?" Said Zen while standing up from his seat.
"Oh, sure but." You looked at your wristwatch." I finish my shift in 7 minutes so we can-"
"Go ahead." Nathan interrupted.
"Huh?"
"It's only 7 minutes. I don't think a lot will happen while you're gone."
"The shop could catch on fire, the baking machines could catch on fire, you could catch on fire!"
"Oh come on, you're over exaggerating! Just sign out like you normally would, I'll make sure it pops up as if you left on time." He gave you a side smile and you couldn't help but return a wholehearted one.
"Thanks, Nathan you're the best!" You hugged him to his surprise. Once you let go, you turned away so he wouldn't see your reddening face.
"I'll go get changed and be right out!" You said heading to the back room.
Meanwhile, Jaehee was on her phone, checking a few texts from Mr.Han and Nathan was feeling a bit awkward as Zen and Yoosung kept looking at him as if they were inspecting him.
"Alright let's go!" You said with enthusiasm as you emerged from the back room with a comfy yet fashionable outfit.
Everyone looked at you with slightly flushed faces. You looked adorable!
"A-Alright then, let's get going!" Yoosung accidentally stuttered.
Everyone started getting up and leaving the pastry shop, but before you could head out, you looked back at Nathan one last time and said
"Thanks again for everything Nathan. Oh, and you know, I think you should call me by my name like you have before. Change things up a bit ya know?" You smiled at him. It made his heart skip a beat hearing you say that.
"Sure thing y/n. Have fun, but not too much fun." He chuckled slightly at the end.
"Yeah I know I know. See you later!" You waved goodbye and headed out leaving him with a lovesick look on his face.
"Ready?" Zen asked.
"Yup! Where do you guys want to go?" You asked as you held onto your side bag.
"I did a little research and there should be a park not too far away from here." Commented Jaehee.
"Okay, let's go!" You said happily.
~
Awkward.
That was the best way to describe the moment.
No one would talk for the first like....7 or 10 minutes.
"So.... y/n, how long have you been working there?" Yoosung was the first to break the ice thank God.
"Oh, um." You tapped your index finger on your chin as you calculated. "About 2 years? Maybe 3." You couldn't remember the exact date.
"Wow, so you've been working there for quite some time now." Said Jaehee whilst taking off her glasses.
"Yeah, you could say that."
"Wait, how old are you?" Now it was Zen's turn to ask.
"19. Soon I'll be turning 20." You answered simply. (Yes, that's your age now)
"Really? When's your birthday?" Yoosung asked.
"Y/B-Day."
"I guess we'll have to celebrate with you y/n!" Yoosung beamed.
"Enough about me, I want to ask you guys some questions too!" You tried to keep any information about your to a minimum.
"Ask away ma' lady." Zen said with a wink.
"Do you guys have jobs?"
"I'm an assistant at a corporation called Cheritz." Jaehee said first.
"I'm still a student in University."
"And I'm an actor/singer/model. Zen is my artistic name, my real one is Hyun Ryu." He wiggled his eyebrows at you teasingly making you giggle.
"That's interesting.." You said simply. You really didn't know what to say next so there was a long and awkward pause.
"Yoosung don't you live near here?" Zen spoke up. Yoosung looked around with a smile.
"Yup! Right over there actually!" He pointed to a light orange building. "I'm on the third floor, number 303, you can come by anytime you'd like." He gave you an innocent look while Zen and Jaehee thought that what he said was little weird. But you didn't take it that way so you returned his smile and said
"Sure! Thanks for the offer!"
"And where did you live before you came here?" Jaehee asked. You stiffened a bit at the question.
"H-Huh? Oh....I used to live with my family a bit far from here." You left it at that and didn't really want to dwell too much on the subject so you tried to change it. "What about you guys?"
"Well I used to live with my parents but they passed away in an accident so I lived with my aunt and uncle. They were very kind and helped me throughout my whole career." Jaehee looked happy as she remembered the good times she had with them.
"I moved out of my parent's house when I was about 18 or 19 years old. I visit them every once in a while or they come to my apartment to check up on me." Yoosung said with his signature smile.
"And I actually ran away from home when I was 18." You looked at him with your eyebrows raised.
So I guess that part of the game was somewhat real about them.
"But after a year or two, I went back and apologized. I realized I was at that rebellious stage and decided it wasn't right to just leave them."
"Guys, you want doughnuts?" You said randomly once he finished. "It's on me!" You gave them a big smile.
"Sure! I'll go with you!" Yoosung offered like a child, mostly because he wanted to choose his doughnut, so you both jogged over to a dunking doughnuts that was right across from the park.
Once you two were far enough, Jaehee turned to Zen.
"She's very.....how do I say it.." She said trying to find the right words.
"Interesting? Amazing? Thoughtful?" Zen tried to finish her sentence.
"That's another way to put it."
"Yeah....she really is something."
