Chapter 5: Jumin
You stared at your phone which had Jumin's new number dialed.
Here goes nothing...
You pressed the big green call button and It rang a few times until he finally answered.
"Hello? Who is this?" He asked in a firm tone.
"H-Hey Jumin, It's me...Y/n." You said in a somewhat shy tone.
"Y/n??" He said surprised. You could hear a series of things falling from a desk on the other side before he spoke again. "H-Hello." He paused for a moment to clear his throat. "How are you?"
"I've been doing well. I met up with Yoosung, Zen, and Jahee lately."
"I see..."
"Oh, are you busy?" You asked worried that you might be interrupting something important.
"Huh? oh, no no. If you wish to talk, how about I send my driver to pick you up and bring you to my house to continue this conversation?" He offered. You looked at the time.
Nathan won't be back for a while now so I guess there won't be a problem.
"Sure." You answered.
"Great, He'll be there in 5 minutes. See you soon Y/n." Jumin said with a smile in his voice.
"Yeah, see you soon."
~
Man, when he said 5 minutes, he really meant it.
You thought as you got out of the apartment and into the car.
"Nice to see you again miss Y/n." Driver Kim said as he opened the door to the limo.
"Nice to see you too Kim." You smiled politely and got in. The ride was short and soon you arrived at the familiar building and went up to the 69th floor.
You stifled a laugh remembering the floor number.
All of a sudden your heart started to pound as you got closer and closer. You were at his door and you knocked lightly.
Almost immediately, Jumin opened the door and it was easy to read his expressions that he was elated about seeing you again after so long.
"Y/n, come in." He welcomed as he opened the door wide enough to let you in. You said a small 'thank you' and sauntered in. "Make yourself at home." He added as he guided you to his couch.
"Thanks, Jumin, kind and considerate as always." You complimented.
There were a few people who walked out of the kitchen in black and white uniforms and placed some finger foods on the coffee table.
"Help yourself." One of them said. You looked at the food and noticed that most of it were your favorites.
Free food!!!
"So what brings you here?" Jumin asked starting off the conversation.
"Well, I wanted to finish my career and the only place to finish them was here ironically, so I moved back." You said as you took a small plate to serve yourself.
"So if it weren't for that, you wouldn't have returned?" It wasn't meant as a question, more like a statement. You paused from filling your plate to turn to look at Jumin with a bit of concern.
"Jumin I-" He raised his hand, stopping you from continuing.
"I talked to Yoosung and Zen before this, so there's no need for you to explain everything all over again." Jumin smiled at you. "I'm ready to start over if you are." You gave him your signature smile and nodded your head.
"Of course." You said before taking another bite of the finger foods.
"So what was your reason for calling me? Or was it just for visiting purposes?" He asked honestly.
"Oh, right, Jaehee mentioned that you were looking for new assistants-?"
"You're hired."
"What??" You couldn't help but laugh--and almost choke--at his straightforwardness. Jumin joined you in your laughing fit, making the helpers from the kitchen peek into the living room to see if it was actually Jumin laughing.
"Haha, don't I need to sign some contracts or something?" You asked as both of your laughter's died down.
"I've had many assistants since Jaehee left and none of them have done the job like she did or like you. So I would be glad to see you working with me again. We can sign the papers and such later, for now, why don't we celebrate?" Jumin walked to his kitchen and then came back with a bottle of wine and two glasses in his hands.
As he was pouring the wine, you noticed that the price was still on the bottle in a small corner.
$5,900?!?!?!
"Holy shit!" You accidentally said out loud and quickly covered your mouth with your hand in embarrassment.
"Is there a problem?" Jumin asked concerned he did something wrong.
"N-No! It's fine, everything is fine! Totally fine! We're just going to drink some really really really expensive wine..." You said still staring at the large number. Jumin looked in that direction and noticed the tag.
"Oh! hahaha, yes it is a tad expensive but I think now is a good time to open it." He said with a never fading smile.
I don't even drink that much, please don't waste it on me T-T
"Cheers." He held his glass up and so did you.
"Cheers." You repeated and softly clink your glass with his.
"So when do I start?"
~
"You're working for who?!?" Nathan exclaimed surprised.
"Jumin..." You answered in a small voice.
"Y/n-"
"I know what you're going to say, but hear me out. I talked it out and I'm on good terms with the others now--Except Seven of course--So there's no need to worry, and I get paid a lot!" You said the last part happily. Nathan sighed as he remembered the broken promise he and Jumin made.
"You'd better not let anything happen to her."
"I'd never even dream of letting anything bad happen to her."
Lier...
"Nathan?" You said trying to catch his attention. He simply let out a long sigh.
"Fine, if this is really what you want to do, then go ahead. But I'm going to keep an eye on him." You looked at him confused.
"Huh? Why? What'd he ever do to you?"
"It's not what he did to me, It's what he didn't do for you." You were still confused but could notice that he didn't really want to talk about it.
"So...What was the important news you were going to tell me?" You asked trying to change the subject.
"Oh, right...Well, my dad got me a place higher up in the ranks of his company as his right-hand man."
"Really! That's great!" You jumped up and down.
"Haha, yeah it is but...I have to be with him almost 24/7." Your smile started to fade.
"Wait. Doesn't your dad live, out of the country?" You asked as you started putting the puzzle pieces together.
"Yeah." All your excitement started to fade away.
"So you're going to-"
"Not if you don't want me to." He said quickly.
You looked at him as if he was crazy.
"What are you talking about? I'm not going to let you miss an opportunity like this! Yeah, we'll be apart for some time but, this is something you've been working hard for since the beginning, and I'm going to support you all the way." You gave him a small smile making him return your kind action.
"I really don't know what I did to deserve you." He said with a chuckle.
"So...how long are you gonna be away?"
"Well, my dad said that I should head over there this week to see what I have to do."
"And, when do you have to leave?" Nathan avoided eye contact.
"He said that he needs my help as soon as possible so I guess I'll be leaving tomorrow in the morning."
"Oh..." You didn't know what to say or how to feel about the situation.
"Why don't you and I go out for dinner? You know, as a goodbye?" He offered. You smiled and thought that you would just have to deal with it.
"I would love that."
~
"So you got everything?" You asked as you and Nathan waited at the airport.
"Yup!" He said with his bags at hand.
"ID?"
"Check!"
"Passport?"
"Check!"
"I don't remember the names of the other things you need but do you have them?"
"Check!" You both laughed and noticed the other people starting to head onboard.
"I guess this is it." You said as you stood close to him and gave him a heartwarming hug.
"Yeah, but remember, one week will fly by like that." He said while snapping his fingers for emphasis.
"True. See you then Nathan."
"Yeah, see ya soon Y/n." You gave him a peck on the lips and then watched as he walked away. All too soon he was gone and out of sight.
"One week huh? I don't think much can happen until then."
