Chapter 37: Mistaken

Heart pounding, hands sweating, thoughts racing.

You didn't know what you were getting yourself into, one minute all you could think of was freeing Celest, and now you were hesitating, not sure if the actions you just took were the right ones.

"We're here, miss." The taximan answered making you jump from suddenly hearing his voice, taking you out of your train of thought.

"Oh, okay." You took out the money that was left in your pocket and thankfully you had enough. "Thank you." Was all you said as you exited. As the Taxi drove away you took a look around and you could see from afar the familiar blond haired woman with your redheaded friend.

You took a deep breath and although you wanted to run away, you wouldn't let yourself abandon your friend like that. As you walked closer and closer you started to remember all of the things she's done up to this point and everything she was capable of doing.

You were taking in short breaths making your heart speed up and your nerves worse. Rika was the first to turn around and look at you with Celest held tightly by her arm with her hands tied up. She held that same smile as always, now that you think of it, you've never seen her express anything other than a grin on her face.

"Y/n!" She shouted out to you making you flinch at her high yet too sweet voice. "I was wondering when you would get here!" She let out a small laugh as you finally took the last step towards her. Now you were only a few feet apart, and you gulped, drawing a blank as to how the hell you were supposed to get out of this situation.

No one knew where you were, no one knew what you were doing, no one was coming to save you, this isn't a game where you're the damsel in distress, this was all too real and you were gonna have to deal with the consequences.

"I'm here." Was all you managed to say.

"I can see that, silly! Now then, if you come with me, I'll keep my end of the bargain and let Celesty here go." She patted her head as if she would to a child.

"You bitch." Spat Celest as she had a hard glare fixed on her.

"Now now, what did I tell you?" You could see Celest grit her teeth and kept her mouth shut.

Rika turned back to you and held out her hand. "Ready to go?" You could feel your legs shaking and ultimately reached out to hold her hand.

Rika looked at your hand, seeing how nervous you were and let out a sigh. "I'm not going to hurt you, Y/n." She assured. You were completely and utterly confused, her voice sounded so sincere and for the first time her eyes and smile actually matched with her words, this only frightened you further.

"Well, just as I promised." Rika let go of your hand for a moment and untied Celest. You looked at your best friend and you could see the tears accumulating.

"It's gonna be okay." You tried to comfort her just as much as you did to yourself. She simply nodded and wiped away her tears.

"You're free, you can go now. I've got a lot of things planned for you and me!" Rika focused on you now and held both of your hands in excitement. You watched as Celest hesitantly took a few steps away but you gave her a curt nod and showed her a side smile.

Right before she walked away, you could see it on her face, "I'm sorry."

You could feel a knot in your throat seeing her leave but decided it was best to pay attention to the situation at hand. "What happens now?" You asked not bearing the tension.

"We're gonna have fun!" She held your hand in hers as she guided you to her car that wasn't very far. The windows were tinted and you couldn't see on the inside. You could practically hear your heart pounding in your ears as you got closer. "I want this to be a surprise so you're gonna have to put this on, Y/n!" She showed you an eye mask all giddy like. You gulped and took it from her and put it on, no questions asked, there really wasn't much you could do by this point.

"Being cooperative I see. This is going to be great!" She guided you inside the car, in the passenger seat and shut the door. You waited a moment and you could hear her opening the other door and getting in as well.

You could hear the jingling of keys followed by the car engine roaring to life. "Put on your seatbelt sweetie, safety first." She instructed kindly. You followed her orders and felt around for the strap but couldn't seem to find it. "Oh! Here, let me help you out." She reached over you and by instinct, you sucked in a breath. Rika pulled the seat belt out and started strapping you in, you could smell the vanilla scented perfume she had on from her proximity.

You heard a faint click and then she did the same thing for herself. "And off we go!" She said happily as if you two were going on some kind of road trip.

It was silent most of the way there, every once in a while Rika would ask how you were doing and you would answer with a short 'Okay'. It seemed like forever until you finally heard the car stop and Rika turned the keys to shut off the engine.

The car door opened and you could hear Rika getting out. You flinched when you suddenly heard your door open. "Take my hand and I'll guide you to where you'll be staying from now on." She sounded happy, no, more like ecstatic when she mentions this. You nodded your head and went along with it.

It was safe to say that you were absolutely terrified about where you were going to be held captive.

Maybe an abandoned warehouse? Or somewhere really secluded?

"Hi, Steph!" Rika greeted, cheerfully as ever.

"Nice to see you Rika, who's this?" She asked somewhat confused. You were hoping to hear a phone clicking or something of the sorts, indicating that you would get some kind of help.

"This is my friend, Y/n! The one I told you I was gonna give the surprise." She answered happily.

"Oh! Well, I hope you two have fun." The lady at the desk said making your heart drop seeing you weren't going to get any help any time soon.

"We will! See you later Steph!" Rika tugged on your hand, signaling you to follow. You did as she instructed and went along.

It seemed like a long hallway, tiled floor since you could hear Rikas heels click with every step in comparison with your silent sneakers.

"Hi, how are you." You could hear her greet every once in a while. All of a sudden she came to a stop and you could tell she clicked a button. After a minute or two, it was followed by a ding. She tugged on you once again and you followed her into what seemed like an elevator.

Oh god, I'm gonna be held captive in a basement.

Your mind started racing with different scenarios taken out of horror movies and all you wanted to do was just go home.

When the elevator came to a stop you could hear the doors opening but Rikas heels weren't clicking anymore, it was more like something soft, carpet? You two walked down the hall a little while longer until Rika stopped almost making you trip.

"I hope you like it." Rika seemed very excited as she opened her door. You took a few steps inside when she told you to, then the door shut behind you and with a click, it locked. "You can take the blindfold off now!" You decided it was best to just get it over with and you took it off in one go. At first, your eyes had to adjust to the bright lighting but you were utterly shocked when you realized you were in an apartment. A regular, modern, apartment.

"What..." You breathed as you took a few steps took look around.

"Do you like it? I fixed it up knowing you were going to be here from now on and oh! I even fixed up the guest room come look!" She took hold of your hand and dragged you to a small hallway with three doors.

You could tell which one was going to be yours since your name was on a small plaque and it hanged on the door.

"Oh! That's the guest bathroom and that's my room, don't worry, each of us have our own personal bathroom." She opened the door and you were surprised to see how nice it looked.

Everything matched, from the bed covers to the window curtains. You took cautious steps as you walked inside. It looked so...nice.

"What do you think? Is it too much, if you want we can change the color! We can also make some rearrangements if you want, whatever is more comfortable for you." She said sweetly. You took a minute to take it all in and then you turned around to look at her.

"What is all of this?" You asked, your voice coming out somewhat coarse since you haven't actually talked since the docks.

"I just wanted you to be comfy." She said with a small shrug. "Are you hungry?" She looked at her wrist watch and gasped. "It's so late. You must be starving! I'll get lunch cooked up right away, or would you prefer take out?" You were completely baffled as to why the hell she was being so kind and considerate.

"Why are you being so nice to me?" You asked, honestly not understanding. Maybe what scared you the most at that moment was she was that Rika, who was so dead bent on marrying a man, she killed her own sister. She was that Rika who used and manipulated anyone to get her way. She still was that very Rika who used your boyfriend to do her dirty work, on the threat that she would pin a murder on him or worse, hurt you. She was all that and more, but at that moment you seemed to forget, with the sheer joy and happiness on her face and glee she displayed, just by you being there.

Her sweet and welcoming hospitality.

Maybe you felt not a hint but a pinch of gratitude for her kindness. "Why are you going through all the trouble of taking me 'hostage' somewhere nice, somewhere I could easily try to break out and ask for help if I needed too."

"I'm just sure you wouldn't do something like that knowing how badly that would end up." She had a soft smile playing on her lips. "Would you like something to drink?" You gulped noticeably, having a certain memory playing on your mind.

"No." You answered bluntly.

"I'm not going to try and drug you. If you'd like you can open a new bottle of orange juice and pour it yourself." She offered. You slowly nodded and entered the kitchen. You had to be honest though the apartment was spacious and well put together, everything seemed to be in place and not a speck of dust in sight.

You noticed the grocery bags on the countertop and took out the juice. You inspected it carefully before opening the lid, it was sealed, so at least that was a good sign.

"Here, let me get you a cup." You watched as Rika went to her cabinets and took out two glass cups. She set them gently on the marble counter and waited for you to serve. You did just that and looked at the juice carefully, trying to see if there was anything weird or different about it, but all your suspicions went away seeing how she already started drinking before you. You took that as your chance to finally have something fill your stomach because as much as you didn't want to admit it, you were starving.

"Would you prefer to eat first or talk?" She asked as she took your cup along with hers once you finished so she could wash them.

"Let's talk for a bit first." Your voice sounded stern and completely serious but your stomach betrayed you by grumbling quite loudly. Rika let out a giggle while you looked away in embarrassment.

"Why don't I cook up lunch real quick and we can talk while we eat, is that okay?" She seemed so careful when she spoke, and every word she would say came out so gently, it was definitely leaving you befuddled.

"Sure..."

You watched carefully as she cooked, making sure everything was clean and nothing looked too odd. She was smiling all the while, seeming completely at ease even though you had your sight fixed on her.

"How's my little brother doing?" She asked as she was setting the table.

"He's doing well, although that fight he got into did get him into some big trouble." You commented.

"And I told Nathan not to involve him..." She said under her breath as she served the plates. You could see she was holding the ladle with a tight grip, but her soft smile never faltered. "Although I'm glad to hear he's gotten back on his feet and he's continuing his studies." She added a bit more cheerful this time. "What about you? I heard you left your studies?" She looked honestly curious when she asked.

She handed you your plate and served herself right after. "I decided to take a small break and pick up where I left off later since right now I'm preoccupied with a lot of things that have been happening." Rika could tell what you were hinting. She put a lid on the pots and made her way to the dining room. She set her food down and took a seat across from you.

"I'm sorry things had to go this way..."

Why? Why does she look hurt and guilty???

"And why did you let it get this far? Why did you have to involve others in this?" You were thinking back to your brother and all of your friends. "The people you once loved, like V, Jumin, Zen, Yoosung, Jaehee, everyone in the RFA was on your side..." From this point all you wanted was answers. Answers as to why you had to work so hard, why you had to go through all of this and end up here.

You watched her for some time as she tried to come up with the right words but you felt your heart drop when you noticed Rika finally showed a different expression.

"I just..." She couldn't even finish her sentence with all the tears that were falling. She started hiccuping and her breaths quickened. "I felt so lonely..." She admitted.

"Lonely?" You questioned, not really understanding where the hell this was coming from, skeptical if you were really supposed to trust her. "Rika you pushed everyone away." You felt yourself start to get angry.

To think for a second I was actually considering helping her.

"I don't think I should stay here any longer." There was nothing stopping you from leaving and this was your chance.

"Wait!" Rika surprised you by grabbing your wrist, her expression twisted into anger and resentment, another new expression you didn't want to see. "You're not taking a single step out of here." Her eyes looked crazed yet determined to get what she wanted.

You tried yanking your arm out of her hand but it was no use, you underestimated her, she was hella strong.

She reached inside her pocket and took out the blue looking liquid from before. "I'll just have to show you my point of view!" She tried to jam the bottle in your mouth but you held her hand back, making it spill on your shirt making it turn black.

"What the hell is that?!" You started freaking out and got that feeling from before when V attacked you, this was gonna end badly. "Get away from me!" You two started wrestling it out but you could tell Rika wasn't going to let up anytime soon.

"No one understands how I feel! No one understands what I had to go through when Mira passed away, no one!" She was getting desperate to get the drug down your throat and you were at a lost, not knowing what to use to defend yourself.

"All I wanted was love!" She pushed harder, getting the bottle dangerously close to your mouth. You could hear the cups and plates fall to the tiled floor with a crash as she pushed you against the table. You bent back, trying to get away from her as much as possible.

"And how did that turn out!" Your voice came out shaken as you struggled to keep the bottle at bay. She seemed so confused and so fragile yet her actions said otherwise. You were completely confused and didn't know whether to beat the living crap out of her or just flat out cry out for help. You looked into her eyes, fear clearly reflected in your eyes while hers were like a lost child's would, crying for help and attention, you felt so...bad for her.

"I just!"

"You just what?!"

"I just wanted my sister back!" She cried finally letting the tears spill out, her grip loosened and she collapsed on her knees. "I just wanted the love of my sister back!" You stood there unable to move as she let out all the pain she felt since the very beginning. You weren't sure if she was just doing this to get to you or if she was genuinely just heartbroken.

"Why haven't you tried getting help?" You asked with an eyebrow raised, hoping you wouldn't trigger anything else.

"I wanted to but I'm just so scared..." She paused for a moment before she finally looked back up at you, her eyes were getting puffy from all the crying and the tears never stopped, she kept wiping at them with her arm to try and clear her blurry vision. "That's why I came to you."

"Me?" You asked in disbelief. "Why me of all people? More importantly, why did you have to do all of this, to get to me? Couldn't you have just searched for me some other way than getting Saeyoung and everyone else involved?" She let out a sigh seeming completely worn out.

"I was, looking for the right person, I don't think Saeyoung mentioned this to you." You simply shook your head and furrowed your eyebrows, curious as to what else Saeyoung has kept from you.

"Initially, Mira and I were so close, there was no way you could separate us until V came along," She shifted position, now sitting criss-cross on the floor. You slowly and cautiously sat on the ground as well.

"He would often hang out with the both of us but he slowly started taking her away from me. I don't want to sound so possessive of her but that's how I felt..." She took a deep breath. "Y/n, the person that was supposed to die wasn't Mira, it was V." You let out a soft gasp at this new information.

"And how did that...mix up happen?"

How the hell do you accidentally kill the wrong person?!

"I hired someone to do it for me. I told him in detail what to do and that was it, it wasn't supposed to be anything like stabbing him, it was just putting something in his drink and in a few hours, he would die from a heart attack. That was it, it was the simplest thing anyone could do." You could see the tears accumulating in the corners of her eyes again. "Later that day I get a call from V saying Mira passed away." She held a hand up to her mouth as she tried to stifle her upcoming sobs.

"So he gave it to the wrong person?"

"No, he gave it to V but from what the person I hired told me, he said that V noticed his drink was tampered with and...he purposely gave it to Mira."

"What? Why would he do that? And how do I know you're not lying?" You thought back to the recent conversation you had with V, recalling something he said, "I can't...I can't believe I was that person before, that person that would hurt someone that he cared for..."

"Think about it Y/n, why would V make them sign the contract in the first place? It was to hide what he did. I had to go to great lengths to try and get him caught, they weren't the best methods but I didn't know how else to do it, V was always one step ahead of me. Everything was initially because of him, he fell in love with you at one point, right? And what did he do to you."

"He...drugged me."

"And didn't hesitate in shooting you." She added.

So who's at fault? V? Rika? Both?

You looked down at your hands, not knowing where to go from here.

Now, what am I supposed to do?
