Chapter 31: Complicated

You didn't want to get out of bed. Scratch that, you couldn't. Celest was out there somewhere and you couldn't do anything to help find her.

For the second time on this obnoxiously bright morning, you heard Saeran knock on your door. You pulled the pillow over your head just to toss it off a second later.

"Come on Y/n, Jumin's been calling me to see if you were going to work today." You groaned and flipped on your bed, face up.

You knew sulking on your bed all day wasn't going to help you or anyone for that matter.

"Alright alright, I'm getting up." You slowly got out of bed and rubbed your eyes before heading over to the bathroom. You could clearly see the dark bags under your eyes, prominent from afar, you scoffed and brushed the thought aside as you head for the shower. You couldn't be less bothered about your appearance. The only thought circling in your head was getting the day over with. After a quick brush, combing the tangles from your hair, your gaze glued to your reflection and it made you feel exactly how you've been feeling all this time.

With a loud clunk, you slam the wooden brush down upon the counter, under your grip, tightening as you dwell on it further.

This is-

"Hey, Y/n. You ready yet?" Saeran calls from the other side of the door.

"Ughhhh~" You groan. "I'm coming."

There wasn't anything you had to talk about so breakfast was quiet. You drove over to the office, ignoring the looks of several employees. Looks caused by the way you held yourself. Determined, quiet and basically in no mood.

You attend to your duties in as much of a dignified manner as your thoughts would allow. As you finally arrived at your office, you closed the door and immediately went to your chair only to slump in it.

"I really don't want to adult today." You complained as you stared at the stack of work waiting for you on your desk.

"I see you're doing well." You suddenly heard from the door, you didn't even hear it click open. Jumin gave you a sad smile and closed the door behind him.

"Yeah, I'm doing just fucking great, Juju." He raised his eyebrows.

"Cursing and nicknames? Are you sure you want to work today? I've heard from other employees that you looked somewhat...Off, and most of them also said something like 'Mood'." You rolled your eyes tiredly.

"I don't want to work honestly, but I can't just lounge around the apartment sulking all day." You took a deep breath then let it out. You got up from your chair and straightened your uniform and fixed your hair. "What's for today, Mr.Han?" You asked formally with a small side smile getting a chuckle out of the businessman.

"Well, first, please don't address me as Mr.Han." He scrunched his face in disgust making you let out a short laugh. "Second, you're the one in charge of my agenda, I should be asking you this."

"Right!" You looked through your things and got out the leather folder. "Right now we have." You opened up the calendar on the tablet and scanned through the day. You looked at the time and then at the schedule. "Well, would you look at that, we should be in a reunion right about now." You quickly closed the tablet and grabbed a hold of Jumin's wrist and started dragging him out of the office and into the conference room.

Isn't this just the perfect way to start the day off. You thought sarcastically.

You had to be honest, you weren't exactly doing as well as you usually would. You would forget a few things here and there and maybe even spilled a coffee or two, but Jumin was kind enough to excuse your flakiness knowing that you weren't quite exactly yourself today. You had a lot on your mind and things just seemed to keep piling up.

You tapped your foot impatiently as you waited for the contract papers to print. You kept glancing at your watch knowing you were cutting it way too close and just to top it all off there was this chick.

"You know fidgeting around like that won't make it print any faster." Commented Sarah in an annoyed tone.

"And hearing your snide remarks aren't going to make it print faster either, now will it?" You talked back at her with a glare. Sarah was surprised by your answer and raised an eyebrow.

"Feisty today, aren't we?" She gave you a smirk knowing that she was pushing the right buttons.

"Acting like a bitch today, aren't we? Oh wait, that's just you." You snapped back and took the papers just as they finished and sped walked away.

"Rude." You heard her mutter as you left.

"Don't fuck with me Choi!" You shouted as you left and gave her the I'm watching you look and scurried away knowing you didn't really have time to pick a fight.

"Language." You heard Liam comment as you passed by him before he took a sip of his coffee.

"Not now!" You huffed. You got back to your office and placed the papers inside the manila folder and prepared everything for the upcoming reunion. You were startled when you heard your phone ring in your pocket.

"Hello?" You answered without looking at the caller ID.

"Babeeeee, I hear your quite the attraction today at work." You let out a sigh.

"Saeyoung, I love you, really, I do, but not nowwww. And how do you know that?" You sat back in your seat and rubbed your temples in stress.

"I wasn't looking through the security footage if that's what you're thinking." You could hear him slurp some soda on the other end. "Don't push yourself too much either," There was a small pause before he spoke up again. "Look, I just want to tell you that I got a possible lead on Celest and it's pretty important so I messaged everyone to meet up at C&R tonight to discuss it okay? So please just relax, I've got this covered and there's a huge team that's helping us out Y/n, we'll find her, I promise." You let out another sigh.

"I just feel so useless." You sadly admitted.

"I know, I know, but look, all you have to do is get ready for the welcoming party when we do find her, okay?" You finally showed a smile and felt yourself relax just a tiny bit.

"Yeah yeah, Okay, Thanks Saeyoung, I'd better get going, we've got another meeting coming up."

"Okay, but stop cursing at people, oh and remind me to give you a high-five for that whole Sarah thing." You let out a chuckle.

"Byeeeee." You hung up the phone and immediately got back to work.

Just a few more hours, that's it.

-

"Well," Saeyoung began as everyone took a seat "We are gathered here today to unite-"

"Babe, don't make me hit you with this stapler, and I'm not aiming for your head this time." You warned to which Saeyoung knew you weren't kidding around.

"Anyway..." Saeyoung continued nervously. "We managed to get the supposedly 'deleted' security footage of when the kidnapped happened."

"We have identified the two culprits but they kept telling us that they were working for someone they didn't even know." Jumin leaned on his desk in thought.

"What do you mean they don't know?" Yoosung asked getting confused.

"There are people that simply ask others to do their dirty work and they don't give their identity to make sure they aren't found out." Explained Jaehee.

"So, now what? We're back to square one?" Zen was getting impatient.

"Not exactly." Answered Jumin.

"We're still getting information on every contact they come in contact with but it's taking a bit longer than we thought." Saeyoung ran a hand through his hair. "But we-" Suddenly, there's a knock at the door.

One of Jumin's employees cautiously poked her head inside as she addressed Jumin. "Mr.Han, there's someone here to see you."

"Not now. Whoever it is tell them-"

"Well now." That voice. "Don't even have time for an old friend, huh, Jumin?"

You hold Saeyoung back as he takes a protective stance forward."What are you doing here?" You spat.

Jumin reached for his phone, "I'm calling security. Who the hell let you in?"

"Calm down. I'm just here to have a short word with all of you. Nice to see you're back on your feet Mr.Han." He walked over to Jumin's liquor cabinet, took a bottle of champagne out and poured himself a glass. "1873. Good stuff."

"Get on with it, Nathan, why are you here?" You fold an arm across your chest and keeping a tight grip of Saeyoung in your other. He could sense the uneasiness you felt as your grip tightened with each word.

"I thought-"

"I'd be happy to see you? After what you did? Keep dreaming." You scoffed, rolling your eyes and keeping your grip hooked on Saeyoung's arm.

"Y/n, you got in the way to save-" He raised his glass towards Saeyoung. "-him," he said with a scowl before taking another sip. "But you'll be happy to hear that I'm not here for you. I'm here on business." He twirled the liquid in its glass as he spoke. "And I need all of you to pay close attention because I'm only going to say this once."

"Just get on with it. Quit wasting our time already." Zen said with venom lacing each of his words.

"Don't worry. After today you'll all have nothing but time."

"Wh-What do you mean?" Yoosung tried to keep an indifferent face to all that is happening, but a stutter slipped out.

"That's why I'm here." He circles the room as he spoke. "I've been hearing great things about all of you and I'm here to say," He stops in front of Jumin, facing him. "Brace yourselves." He takes the last sip of the Champagne and gently sets the glass on Jumin's desk. "You're all about to be taken on a ride."

"Nathan, what the hell do you mean?"

"All in due time, Y/n. For now, take care." He walked towards the door. "Now if you'll excuse me," he said with his hand on the handle, a sly smile crawling on his lips. "I have a date with a certain redhead hacker and no, it's not you." He looked at Saeyoung but then turned to you. "The one I'm thinking about is a lot more, feisty."

Everyone's eyes widened at the mention of this girl. There was not one person in that room who doubted what they were thinking.

Celest!

Her name rang in their minds and before anyone knew what they were doing, they all raced towards the door to catch up to Nathan.

They ran outside.

But nothing.

He was gone.

"This isn't a movie, how the hell did he get away so quickly???" Saeyoung complained as he walked back into the office, shutting the door behind him angrily.

"Hello? I need security footage of that man with brown hair and..." Jumin kept describing Nathan to the intelligence unit while you took a seat.

"What the hell was he trying to warn us about? 'Nothing but time?' 'Taken on a ride?'" You wondered as you tried to put the puzzle pieces back together.

"And what would he want with Celest?" Yoosung asked childishly.

"Leverage." Jaehee simply answered. "He wants something and he's doing everything he can to get it."
