Chapter 25: Break
You let out a long sigh as you got the papers from the printer. Saeran didn't wake up before you went to work so you still don't know what's going on with him.
"Are you done contemplating on life or can I finally get a copy?" You knew that voice all too well.
"I'll be out in a minute Sarah." you quickly gathered all your papers and walked away from the rude lady.
"She acting up again?" Liam said all of a sudden walking down the hall with you.
"Yeah, just as always." You playfully rolled your eyes.
"So how's the event planning going?" He asked.
"Event?" You two came to a stop at Jaehee's desk.
"Y/n! Just the person I wanted to see." Jaehee got up from her chair and you handed her the papers she needed.
"Mr.Han just informed me that we're holding an event so that the other companies can meet each other, as a 'meet and greet' so they can know who they're working with." She explained.
"And when is it going to be?"
"Two weeks..."
"What?!"
"I'll leave you two ladies to your work." Said Liam with a small wave of his hand and then he was out of sight.
"Just as always, doing things at the last minute." You mumbled as you rubbed your temples in stress.
"Sadly, yes. But we need to book everything as soon as possible and he said we need a host." She added.
"What?? That's even harder to get at such short notice." You were about to continue complaining when you got a good idea. "So we need someone to host the event?" You and Jaehee looked at each other with a smile creeping up on your faces knowing you two were thinking that same thing.
"Zen." Both of you said at the same time.
"I'll get organizing."
"And I'll give him a call." You took out your phone and walked towards the common room.
"Great timing, my lady! I'm just going out for a break." He answered cheerfully. You chuckled before answering.
"I guess, I've just got good luck."
"And may I know why such a wonderful lady is calling me?"
"I'm glad you asked! You see we're having a kinda big event this Saturday and we need someone as the host and..."
"You were looking for the best of the best?"
"Yeah, Mr.chairman wanted someone who acted responsible for the event and who better than the great Zen?" You said with a chuckle.
"Are you trying to flirt with me to convince me to work with you? Because it's working." He laughed before adding that he would gladly help.
"Great! Then in 10 minutes I'll send you-"
"Y/n!" You heard Jumin shout all of a sudden startling you. You turned around and noticed that everyone else in the common room was staring at the man in the suit that was rushing towards you as fast as he could in the wheelchair.
"Ye-Yes?" You stuttered.
"What do you think you're doing! Right now is not the time to be chatting on the phone, do you know how many things need to be done?!" He shouted making you take a step back in shock from his outburst.
"I was just-"
"Just what! Wasting time?!"
Did he just reach his limit?
"Jumin, I know you must be stressed but-" You couldn't even finish a sentence. He just wouldn't let you.
"Stressed?! I'm not stressed! I'm sick and tired of the fact that you're not taking this seriously! This is an important job and you're slacking off!" You could see his need to stand up and continue his pointless argument but regardless, you tried to calm him down so he wouldn't end up hurting himself.
"Jumin, why don't I take you out for some fresh air, maybe that'll help you clear your mind." You reached out to take the handles of the wheelchair but Jumin surprised you by slapping your hands away.
"I don't need your help! You're useless! Unable to finish the simple tasks that I ask of you!" You stared at him with wide eyes. You knew he was tired of being in a chair all day and not being able to do his regular activities but that doesn't give him the right to act that way.
"Jumin I think you should take a breather. You don't know what you're saying-"
"Of course I do! You haven't helped me at all during this whole time! Jaehee is the only one who's been barely keeping up but you haven't! And on top of that, you've been dragging us all down!" You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion.
"Dragging you down? Not helped??? Who do you think was in charge of the last event! Who do you think went walking all the way across town to get the signature from the -company name- to be able to send it in! Who do you think was in charge of writing up the summary of the company reunions for it to be stored in the company history files! Who do you think-!"
"That's not what I'm talking about! You're my personal secretary you should be by my side for anything and everything I need!"
"I have been by your side! You're the reason I've been running around this whole time!" You could feel the anger building up inside you and didn't care about the watchful eyes of the others in the room.
"The only thing you've been doing is making up excuses to get out of work! You've messed up in so many tasks and all you've done since you got here was ruin our lives! " You were astonished at how far this had gotten and how awful Jumin could really be. You knew he was frustrated and that he needed to take out his anger on you but he's gone too far.
Was this how he really felt about me?
"Jumin-"
"That's Mr.Han to you." He warned. You tightened your fists at your side. You were his friend but enough is enough.
"Well, Mr.Han. I QUIT!" You threw the documents on the ground, turned on your heel and left the room without another word.
You sped walked down the halls towards the exit and could feel all the anger you felt from before starting to turn into sadness and regret.
Did he really mean that? He wouldn't have said it if he never thought about that at some point...
The tears started to form and your vision was blurred as you burst out through the front doors of the C&R building. It was dark out, you didn't even notice the time fly by, It was probably around 8 or 9 pm. You furiously tried to wipe away the tears as you walked down the sidewalk, ignoring the people that would stare at you, but then you noticed that your phone was still on the line with Zen.
"He-"
"Y/n?! Are you alright??" He asked in a panicked yet relieved tone when you finally answered him. You were about to say something but you felt a knot in your throat so all you could do was whimper.
"Send me your location, I'll be there as soon as possible." You nod as if he could see you and hang up to send it through Whatsapp. You decided to head over to a nearby park and send the location so you would wait on a bench until he got there. No more than 10 minutes later you hear the sound of a loud engine roaring down the streets followed by the light of a single headlight.
He parked nearby and held his helmet at his side as he walked towards you.
"Hey there, beautiful." The way he said it wasn't in a joking or flirtatious manner, more like comforting, sweet.
"Hey." Was all you could manage to say without bursting into tears.
"Why don't we go somewhere where it isn't freezing cold and have something warm to drink? My treat." You smiled at his kindness and nodded.
Man, if you treat me like this and we're friends, I wonder how spoiled you'll have your future girlfriend.
You giggled at the thought and let him lead the way. It was a small coffee shop, it kinda reminded you of Jaehee's, but since she can't work there, for now, Min is filling in for her thankfully.
"What would you two like this evening?" A nice looking waiter asked mostly to Zen. She handed you and Zen a menu and you opened it up to take a look.
"Ask for anything you want, beautiful, no peeking at the price." He gave you a wink and you couldn't help but let out a chuckle and suppressed a smirk seeing the waiter didn't have any interest in Zen anymore since he called you beautiful.
"I'll have some coffee and some F/dessert." You handed back the menu with a smile.
"And I'll get the blood orange earl grey tarts" He also handed over his menu.
"Your food will be getting here in about 10 minutes." She then turned on her heel and left.
"So...?" Zen began.
"Jumin's a bitch." You said bluntly causing Zen to let out a hearty laugh.
"Apart from the obvious, what happened back there?" His laughter died down and you could tell that the conversation was getting more serious hearing his tone in voice change.
"I'm not sure, he was kinda annoyed this morning but it just seemed like the usual. I was just talking to you on the phone before he burst out of his office."
"Weird, maybe he got a call or something?" Zen pondered. "Either way, whatever the reason, he had no right to treat you that way." Zen defended. You felt better knowing he was so supportive and caring about the situation.
"Here are your orders." This time it was a different girl than the one before that handed us our food. You gave a curt 'Thank you' and just like that she left.
"So what are you going to do about it?" He asked you taking a bite out of his favorite dessert.
"Do? I already quit. What else am I supposed to do? Play a prank on him like put post-it notes all over his office?" You thought about it and the idea was actually growing on you.
"You know, you're on to something, Y/n." You could see a smirk starting to form on his face.
"I was just kidding." You warned.
"I know I know. But That got me thinking, maybe he just needs a wakeup call."
