Chapter 17: Shut up and Drive
He looks at you with a serious expression, maybe unsure even of what you were proposing.
You knew he wouldn't immediately agree so you tried to reassure him. "I've taught my friend how to drive and believe me, once she got into the driver seat all chill went out the window, she was a mess, but I kept my cool and she still managed to learn." Thinking back on that time, even after she learned how to drive, she still preferred walking and the bus. Come to think of it, she never got into the driver seat again. "So, what do you say?"
He walks out of the elevator and the doors close behind. "Let's get started."
"Great!" You jumped on the spot, twirled around and marched towards Jumin's car.
All of a sudden your phone rings.
"Hey, my hot potato, whatcha up to?"
Hot potato? We're on that stage already, huh?
His pet name for you earned him a giggle as you replied, "Uh, nothin' much. Just going to teach Jumin to drive. We got a couple of hours to kill."
I should tell Jaehee that we'll be coming later.
"No way I'm letting you drive with him alone."
"Are you jealous?" You raise your eyebrows teasingly.
"No, I just prefer you alive, ya know?" He sounded genuinely worried.
How bad can Jumin be at driving?
"What's the worst that can happen?"
"You know, how in the game when Jumin drives Seven O- my car?"
"Yeah..."
"That actually happened."
You take a minute to recall. In the meantime- "I'm coming with you. Wait for me."
"Always, my defender of justice." You joked in the cutest voice, having recalled the messenger game, which unknown to you made him blush so red it put his hair to shame.
You didn't get a reply and looking back at your screen you noticed that he had hung up. You shrugged and having found Jumin's car, you leaned against it, setting off the alarm. You panicked but then It clicked off while Jumin reached for the driver seat, but you hurriedly took the handle and while the door was halfway open, "Uh, How about we find a clear area for you to drive first." You hold out your hand motioning him to give you the keys. He huffs in response and takes the passenger seat.
"Wait why don't you just drive us over there? We would be saving a lot of time." He said obviously trying to postpone the driving lesson. You crossed your arms over your chest and tapped your foot.
"That's not the point Jumin. I'm going to teach you how to drive even if it kills me!" You declared.
"It just might Y/n." You shrugged your shoulders and got in the driver's seat. You continue on to explain to Jumin the plan and quickly send a message to Jaehee before driving out.
Y/n:
I'm gonna be a bit late. Gonna show Jumin How to drive.
Jaehee:
Okay, I'll be praying for your well being.
Y/n:
IS HE REALLY THAT BAD OF A DRIVER???
~
"So, where do we begin?"
"Jumin."
"Yes?"
"You're going in reverse. The brakes, Jumin." You say before reaching over and pulling the emergency brakes yourself, starting to get paranoid about everything you were told.
Calm down, they were just exaggerating. You reassure yourself, slowly sitting back at your seat.
"Was that necessary?" Jumin suddenly asks, and it takes you a minute, but you had guessed it was because of your reaction, but what else were you supposed to do!?
Slowly putting the handle back to its place, you instruct Jumin that he should place his foot down on the break until you say otherwise. "We got a lot of work to do." You breathe in, inhaling all you need, not just oxygen but a good air of patience too.
Explaining the basics first, you get down to the hard stuff like parking. Jumin's smart, you know that and he catches on quick with all the theoretical part and now comes-
"Hey, lovely 606!"
The voice startled you making you lean all the way to Jumin's side, you clench your chest, holding your breath to quickly recover from the scare.
"Saeyoung, are you trying to give me a heart attack!?" You scolded, setting yourself back into your seat. His lips immediately reach your cheek as you sit back down on your side.
He's in an extremely good mood today. I wonder what's up.
"Are you sure you think you're qualified for this, Y/n?" Jumin piped in, still trying to convince you to put it off.
"Of course, I am." You declare, confidently. Turning your arm across the seat to the back you open the door and order, "Saeyoung, get your cute ass in the car and let's get this show on the road."
"But I thought..." Jumin's words trail.
"No. You're not going to be actually driving on an actual road, Jumin. You're not ready."
With everything cleared up, Jumin starts over. Your calm and patient support helps through the basics and he starts to gain confidence.
"You're doing great, Jumin. At this rate, you will be driving yourself anywhere without deep depending on someone to do it for you."
He smiles in agreement, mainly to make you happy. There was no way on Earth was he ever giving up his driver. He had a hundred things more important to stress about than as simple and unproductive as driving. Why drive when you can get someone to do it for you, was his reasoning.
All of a sudden someone's phone rings, it turns out to be Jumin's. He answered his phone without looking at the caller ID. You then turn to look at your boyfriend through the rearview mirror.
"By the way, don't you have to work or something today?" You asked honestly surprised he came along.
"Do you not want me here?" He said with a pout and over exaggerated wide eyes.
"Well - JUMIN!"
You yank the emergency brakes for the second time today before it could crash into a wall of a building. A heavy sigh escapes your lips as you suddenly feel a tug at your waist. Two arms, intertwined at the fingers wrap around your waist preventing you from almost smacking your face into the front of the car. You then steady your breathing and turn to the culprit. You could see Jumin was not happy about your actions and he was about to comment but you beat him to it.
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT ALL ABOUT?" You argued as you struggled to comb through your hair with your fingers.
"What are you talking about? I was doing fine until you stopped me!" He crossed his arms over his chest honestly believing he was right.
"Doing jus-?! How was that even remotely fine!"
"I was going a long distance and did not have any accidents-"
"You were going to kill us!"
"No, I wasn't I was-!"
"Wait, wait guys!" Said Saeyoung suddenly, stopping all the chaos.
"WHAT?" You ask.
"Don't you guys hear it?" He says looking around the car.
"Hear what?" It was Jumin's turn to ask.
"Jaehee's praying for us." Right after that, a loud Smack could be heard from your shoe making contact with Saeyoung's face.
"BOI."
Aaaaaaand after that you would just drive Saeyoung back to his house. You and Jumin headed back to the office, END OF STORY!
Damn, Jumin even got the author so pissed off she had to finish this scene faster.
After a scare like that, you didn't think you were up for a cheerful little visit to Jaehee's, so you called her up and explained what happened. Apologizing for not being able to make it. She understood completely and told you to make sure you rest up.
You hang up the phone, leaned in your chair and not a second sooner does your phone's alarm ring telling you it's time for the meeting. A loud huff escapes your lips as you slump up, feeling mentally exhausted. With all folders and files double checked and safely tucked into a suitcase you go to get Jumin.
"Jumin." You knock on the door before entering and- "Jumin?"
He's nowhere in sight.
His office is huge, but that doesn't mean he has plenty of places to hide. You scramble around the room searching for him. "Where could he have gone to? We have a meeting to get-"
"Oh, there you are." One of the company's employees said, opening the door halfway. "Mr. Han has sent a car for the meeting."
Walking towards the tipped over suitcase, you begin to wonder, eyes blank, but curious.
Why would he leave without me?
You reach the reunion safely and on time, but the very moment you entered you get a different vibe from Jumin. He was more- professional towards you. Though the meeting goes off without a hitch.
When it's time to head back, Jumin is the first to head back, leaving instructions that you take the other car.
When Jumin wants distance, he makes distance. You brush it off thinking it was all due to this pre afternoon's events, though it bothered you a pinch because Jumin had never been the type to be so petty.
Like seriously, could he really be upset that I stopped his 'perfect' drive?
After all the work is done you head home to relax because you know you needed it.
You grope through your purse searching for the keys, frustrated that you couldn't find them as quickly as you hoped, you give up and ring the bell.
Four attempts later, you begin to worry. "Why isn't Saeran opening the door? He said he'd be home when I get back from work."
I even got back the exact time I told him I would.
You scramble again for those keys. Kneeling down and dumping all the contents on the floor. Finally finding the keys you hurry to get the door open.
Forgetting the contents outside, you are met with darkness.
A sound begins to play.
"Welcome home, Y/n"
