(Portal) Chell Cosplay
I went to FanExpo this weekend and just wanted to share some cool props I made because I'm v proud of them.
The picture above is my full cosplay of Chell from Portal 2. It's my first cosplay in which I made everything myself!!
Including the gun!!
Here's some close up pictures of the finished gun:
Orange lights! This was a work in progress shot so it's missing the back shell and claws in the photo:
I have to say, this thing is really heavy and I probably got the most exercise I've gotten all summer by carrying it all around the convention centre.
There is one thing that I wasn't able to finish in time, and that was the wires that go from the back shell to the claws (and the three red lights that go with them), but it was the night before the convention and I was like fUCK IT IM DONE. I'll probably try and fix it before Halloween bc I plan to wear this again.
Here's the long fall boots while on my feet:
And off (but missing springs because they were getting painted at the time):
They're actually really comfortable to stand and sit in, but awkward to walk in, as I can't bend my ankle. It was also my first time walking in heels so I ended up taking them off half way through the day because my feet hurt and one of them started to break soo
I mean I can't say that they're well made but they sure look nice.
I sewed the jumpsuit too! It was my first time sewing clothing, but it fits me pretty well and it's really comfortable (except it gets hot while walking around a convention full of nerd heat, which my cousin has dubbed 'neat™')
While I'm at it, here's some more pics from the convention:
They had this really cool HTTYD exhibit with a life-sized Toothless!
So cool.
Also a life-sized Jabba the Hutt, and while we were there a slave Leia cosplayer came to get pictures with him and so I had to take one too:
Also featuring a random Jawa and severed C3PO's head, who I'm still not sure was part of the exhibit?? It's so hard to tell at conventions.
Boba Fett and 2 R2 units!! I swear they had every colour of R2 there. They're actual robots that can drive around, too. I want one.
Ft. Frozen Han Solo in the background lmao
Sooo jealous of this guy's armor.
No idea what it's from (anyone know?) but it's super detailed and has lights. I aspire to be able to make a costume like that one day.
I also saw Billie Piper and Catherine Tate there!! Didn't get to talk to them or anything bc the line ups were so long but that was still pretty cool! Kinda wish I could have gone on Matt Smith's day but my mom was working (and I didn't have my cosplay done yet aaaa)
Fun fact I finished the costume the day before the convention whoops
Anyways it was really fun and I got lots of compliments on my cosplay! I want to start going to more cons but there isn't many in my area. I cry. I'll hopefully be at Toronto Comicon again in March tho!
Materials Used:
For the gun: ABS pipe (3&4 inch) and Bondo for the main body, plastic water bottle and clear plunger handle for the center, foam mats for the shells, random plastic bin that I cut up and some various screws for the claws, 28 LEDs for the lights, all programmed by my awesome dad, and various switch thingies and stuff?? Also a shit ton of paint and stuff, the logos were done with homemade stencils and sharpie.
For the boots: Almost entirely foam (10mm, 4mm, and 2mm). My dad had some broken camera straps that I used for the straps, and a shit ton of industrial (super strong!!) Velcro to hold them on.
Tools: Hot glue gun, Dremel, sandpaper, craft knife, mod podge and HELLA PATIENCE.
Time Taken: The. Entire. Summer. Started the gun in June, finished it the day before the convention. Boots took about 2 weeks.
