Chapter Sixteen
Alina
"What did you just say?" I asked my voice barely audible due to all the sudden flood of emotions. This had to be some sick twisted prank Luke was trying to pull against me for insulting his dish. "You're kidding me, right?"
He shook his head."I'm sorry, Alina." He mumbled, "I know it's a huge loss to bear with but you can not give up. You can not let the emotions drain you because you are a fighter. I know I'm asking a lot from you but I want you to know that I care for you. I don't want you to be considered as a weakling." He paused, his palm placed flatly against my cheek, slowly caressing my skin, his fingers running over my tear-stained cheeks.
"I love you," he whispered, "I don't want you to feel lonely. I am here for you, we all are. The entire Red Blood pack is by your side because it's your home, we are your family."
"How?" I finally managed to ask, my voice raspy than intended.
He raised an eyebrow, "They were not killed due to the attack, hell no," he paused, looking at me intently, "They were killed before their pack got attacked. Alpha Andrew was trying to keep the news of their death a secret, which indeed he was successful at but then the sudden attack made the news of the death viral to the all werewolf packs out there."
"Andrew was trying to keep it a secret?" I repeated, "But why? And how did the news leak out anyway?"
"There must have had been a reason behind all these, which we are certainly not aware of," Luke stated, giving my hand a reassuring squeeze.
"Yes," I mumbled, knowing the fact that he was right, "Can you leave me alone for a moment?"
"No," he growled, "I won't leave you alone. You need me right now."
"Stop-"
The sound of my door being snapped open echoed, retrieving a rather familiar figure from the dark.
"—I'm sorry to interrupt but I have a piece of important information that needs to be passed out to you right now, Alpha." A pack member said bowing down in front of Luke.
"What is it?" Luke asked.
"Earlier a rogue was caught invading into our territory, claiming herself to be innocent. Beta Neil locked her up inside the prison for further investigation."
"Her?" Luke furrowed an eyebrow.
"Yes, Alpha. The rogue is a girl." He informed Luke.
"Go and inform Neil that I ordered him to take care of this matter himself," Luke ordered, his voice filled with authority.
The pack member bowed down and soon left acting upon the orders Luke placed.
It was rare for a female rogue to invade an Alpha's territory. Most of the invasions were by male abandoned wolves. No matter how strong a female wolf was, the courage of stumbling upon a marked territory was itself a dreadful imagination, which no one certainly considered to act upon.
"I think you should take a rest. You had a long day and its expected of you to take a break, for the day at least." He smiled as he stood up, along with the semi-filled platter placed finely against his palm.
"You sleep now, I'll see you later, love."
It was nothing new. No matter how many times someone said that they would stay, it always ended up in a different way. For nothing was a permanent piece in life.
"Oh, and thank you for the drink you made for me, Alina." Luke grinned as he looked at me one last time before walking out through the door.
Drink?
Meanwhile
James
"The Shadow Light Pack got attacked."
"So," I raised an eyebrow, "What can I do?"
Drake's face drained shades of colour until nothing but traits of white was left. His eyes turned into slits as he glared at me, sitting there like an inanimate puppet.
"You're unbelievable!" He exasperated, finally coming to his senses. "You can't say that! You're an Alpha."
"But, I am not their alpha, for they are only our neighbouring pack." I pointed out. The conversation was itself useless for there was no actual factor to discuss.
"Good point but being an alpha, you should simply be aware of all facts, which indeed you are not." Drake scoffed, "You never know when we are the next in line. What if we get attacked?"
I frowned, "Why would we get attacked?"
"Don't tell me you don't have any clue," he gasped, shaking his head.
"Clue about what?"
"Someone kill me." He cried as he tried to crawl out of his seat. Overdramatic.
"Stop that." I growled, pissed by his actions, "And tell me what's going on!"
"Yeah, aside from all the jokes," he coughed awkwardly sitting straight, "According to the sorcerer, the abandoned wolves are going bonkers these days. Something like this has never been witnessed before by anyone."
"Oh that reminded me, did your problem with the sorcerer's aura sort out?"
"No." He gruffed, "You had to bring that topic up now, didn't you?" He cringed.
I opened my mouth but was too amused to comprehend an actual sentence.
"You're gruesometonian needed." I laughed as he shivered in disgust. His obsessive hatred towards the sorcerer's aura was itself an amusing act to witness upon, which to me was entertaining.
"I sometimes doubt your abilities as an Alpha." He mumbled, slightly shifting his position.
"What did you say?" I glared. His mouth has been moving on its own lately.
"Never mind." He muttered under his breath, loud enough for me to hear.
"Yeah, sure," I rolled my eyes, "Let's get back to business. What were you saying?"
His eyes flickered, "Abandoned wolves are attacking packs these days. It is said that they are searching for something." He paused, opening the book of myths in front of him. "Yesterday I was going to the predictions when suddenly a few lines appeared out of nowhere."
He pointed his finger to a paragraph, "Read that."
Impurity can not be decontaminated
While it is all buried within
Comes the light through the fire
Purifying it all indeed.
"What does that suppose to mean?" I frowned.
Every single line itself was left unexplained for us werewolves, for we didn't possess the power of encrypting such messages. The only ones with the ability to decrypt such messages were the sorcerers.
"Those lines, I suppose, is an indication of the attack going on," Drake stated calmly. "Two packs already got burnt down, leaving no remainings behind, not even the Alpha could survive."
"They were weak indeed." I spat.
"Don't underestimate the case here. None of them were weaklings, for they were too proud like you." He growled inaudibly.
"I'm not." I defended.
"Sure, whatever you say." He laughed dryly, "By the way, I think you should let your dad take care of the pack until everything settles down."
"What!?" I growled, balling my fists, "Why would I ask him to handle the pack? Did you forget that I am the Alpha?"
"Yes, certainly that you are, but the matter is not as light as you're taking it to be. Your dad is more experienced." He explained.
"I have been handling this pack efficiently for three years now." I scoffed, "And no, I need no help."
He smiled slyly, "But your dad already did."
"What did he do!?"
A sudden knock on the door changed the entire atmosphere. I looked up to see—
"It has been a while now and you haven't changed a bit, brother."
