Part 282: Camie vs. Kali

The stalemate continued for another day.

They slept in shifts, but no more attacks came. Not to them.

* * *

Camie had found life at Shiketsu dull after Moto's game. She had thought she might transfer to UA this year anyway...but now that it was closed, she couldn't.

But it wasn't so bad. Some of the UA kids were doing part-time training at other schools so as not to get too far behind, and Bakugo, Kaminari, Kirishima, Jiro and Mina had all managed to get Shiketsu as their assignment, so she'd been seeing them a few days a week. UA had only been closed for a short time, after all.

They missed the other 1-A kids, even some of the 1-B ones, but at least it was better than no friends at all.

Now the crisis with the core group, the LOV, and the mystery attacks had them on edge, and Bakugo's squad, who didn't know, could tell something was wrong.

Camie checked her phone frequently to see if anyone updated her.

Poor Momo was stuck at a different school and then at home most of the time and confessed she felt useless. But today she and Shoto were going to try to meet up by the agency.

Camie thought it might be a good time to get some extracurricular activity in herself.

So she took the train to that part of Japan.

Kirishima and Mina came with her so she wouldn't be alone--and maybe to get some couple time themselves.

"Camie, do you know what is going on with Bakugo? He won't tell me," Kirishima said.

Camie shrugged. "Yo, he probs has a good reason if it's on the QT."

"Well...yeah, but I thought it might be, you know, that secret thing you all are in," Kirishima said.

Mina nudged him. "Then she probs can't say anything either."

"Oh...right," Kirishima said.

"I mean, I'd give you the deets, but you guys would just get in trouble," Camie said. "I don't want to freak you out."

"I hate being out of the loop though, man," Kirishima said. "Bakugo and I are best buddies, but it feels like we never do anything together anymore, now he's always with you guys... I mean, I'm happy he's happier, but I feel...left behind."

Camie tilted her chin. "Hey, Kiri, it's no big. We all just have different missions in life, ya know? And if we're gonna be out on this field doing the super mysterious stuff, someone's got to have our backs on the Hero thing so nothing gets too cray cray, so I think your job is super important, and Bakugo knows we can count on you to always take care of things with our squad and the Hero scene while we're trying to do damage control on the other stuff. I mean, if we didn't have anyone to have our back on that, we'd get taken out from behind, right?"

"You think?" Kirishima said. "Or are you just trying to make me feel better?"

"Heck no." Camie waved. "While we were on our big mission, everyone had to do something, ya know?  We learned that no one's not important-- it's just we all have our different times to shine, and you've got yours, dude. Stop comparing yourself to Bakubae. He's crazy anyway, though I love him. That's not your vibe. Your the manly, chivalrous one, right? So just work that angle. Am I right, Mina?"

"Well, I think so." Mina smiled. "It would be boring if everyone was exactly the same. And I like you this way. Bakugo's a lot of work."

Kirishima smiled a bit.

"You're good at this pep talk thing, Camie," Mina said.

"Well, same to you, sis," Camie said. "And my bestie in the other world, Ino, she's super good at it too. I like positive people, what can I say?--Except Bakugo, but he's kind of funny when he's negative."

"Bakugo's not really negative or positive, he's just...Bakugo," Mina said.

"True that," Camie agreed.

The train stopped and they all got off and headed toward the agency.

When they got to the right street, Mina said, "We should probably leave so you and Bakugo can have some time alone, right?"

"Oh, you guys can say hi." Camie waved. "Anyway, I bet Todoroki is around here too, so I got to scare him first--" She paused suddenly. "Did you guys...just feel cold?"

"Uh...well, it's chilly today, but I'm all layered up," Kirishima said.

"Yeah, I feel fine," Mina said.

"Uh, must just be a draft," Camie said.

They went inside the agency and looked around.

"Hey, are you supposed to be here?" Burnin asked.

"It's on Hero biz," Camie said. "Where's Ground Zero?"

"Probably doing paperwork," Burnin said. "I wouldn't talk to him. He's been in a bad mood since yesterday."

"I'll be fine." Camie winked.

"Oh, wait, are you his girlfriend?" Burnin clasped her hands. "That's so cute... Wow, you're way cuter than I thought a guy like that would have."

"Oh, thanks, sis." Camie tossed her hair.

"Technically, I shouldn't let you in just on love life reasons," Burnin said, "but I guess I can look the other way."

"Wow, thanks, you're a real one," Camie said.

Then she felt it again...a shiver.

Camie looked around.

Her eyes sharpened a little.

"Uh...Camie..." Mina said, "something's up with your irises..."

Burnin looked confused. "I'll just leave."

"Like, fahm," Camie said, "I got some mad skills on the mission. Like, my perception is dialed to 90 now."

"Uh...okay?" Mina and Kirishima didn't understand that at all. Camie seemed pretty spacey.

Camie finally locked on the corner of the room.

The faint outline of someone in the shadowy corners of the room wouldn't have been noticeable to most people.

It seemed to get clearer the longer she looked.

Then she gasped. "It's Kali."

"Who?" Mina asked.

Kali Moto was leaning on the wall, looking very casual, with her stupid nail file.

She looked up at Camie, smiling smugly--till she realized Camie was looking right at her.

Frowning, she sort of waved slightly.

Camie replied by flipping her off.

Moto's eyes widened.

Then she melted into the wall.

"Guys," Camie said tightly, "we have a big problem. My psycho ex-classmate is here."

"I don't see anyone," Kirishima said.

"Yeah, well, she's here. She's just camouflaged or something," Camie said. "This is majorly bad. I got to find out what she's at... Kiri, go get Bakugo, tell him Kali's here. Mina, you need to call the DJs. You have their digits, right?"

"Of course. We all do," Mina said. "But who's--?"

"No time." Camie was surprisingly commanding. "I'm gonna look around." She took off.

Mina pulled out her phone. "We'd better--"

"Already on it." Kirishima was running for the office area.

* * *

"Any luck?" Dabi asked Mabui, leaning over her shoulder to stare at the computer.

"I've been going over news reports, Hero reports--" Mabui put a finger on her chin. "--but I can't be sure any of it is relevant. I need something to just be blatantly out of the ordinary. Would they be that careless?--Um, could you please stop leaning like that. It's distracting."

"What? Too hot for you?" Dabi said slyly.

Mabui raised an eyebrow. "Or maybe you're just in my light."

"It's a computer."

"I read that looking at computers when it's dark is bad for your eyes...and look how many people here wear glasses. The facts speak for themselves."

"You worry too much," Dabi said. "There's always contacts."

"What do contacts have to do with eye sight?"

"I mean glasses contacts--nevermind..."

Suddenly Kirishima came running into the room.

"Hey, is Bakugo here?" he said.

"Pointy-haired kid?" Dabi said. "I didn't think you worked here."

"I don't-- Do I know you?" Kirishima did a double take.

"Hey, name's Touya Todoroki," Dabi said, "but you probably know me as--"

"Dabi? I forgot you work here now," Kirishima said. "It was a prison thing, right?"

"Community service." Dabi frowned.

"Can we help you?" Mabui stood up. "You are a friend of Bakugo-san's, I presume."

"Oh, yeah, it's an emergency," Kirishima said.

"What kind of emergency?" Dabi asked.

"I needed to tell him someone is here. His girlfriend seems freaked," Kirishima said.

Dabi dropped his casual demeanor. "Did she say who?"

"Someone named Kali."

Dabi glared. "Where is the b----?"

"Touya, please," Mabui said. "Bakugo is in the coffee room. It's faster if I page him."

"Where's Camie?" Dabi demanded.

"The front," Kirishima said.

Dabi moved fast. "I'll help her. Get the stupid sidekicks away from there if you can."

"How?" Mabui said.

"I don't know, make up something. Say a rabid fan is trying to sneak in the service entrance." Dabi ran off.

Mabui hit a button. "Will Ground Zero please report to the front desk. It's urgent.... And will any available personal please check all secondary exits. We have a report of a over-enthusiastic fan trying to sneak in, possibly with a weapon."

"Wow...that was so cool," Kirishima said.

Bakugo came charging into the room. "The h--- was with that report--? Weird hair?!"

"Dude, Camie's in trouble," Kirishima said. "Someone named Kali--"

"The frick didn't you tell me sooner?!" Bakugo said. "Where?"

"In the front."

Bakugo ran.

"I've gotta go with him," Kirishima said. "Uh, guard the desk."

Mabui pursed her lips. "Yes, sir," she said dryly.

* * *

Camie didn't find Kali anywhere around the room, and she was getting weird looks from the other sidekicks--up until Mabui sounded some kind of alarm. Clever.

Everyone else rushed out.

Camie went out the door and looked around the sides of the building.

Finally, she spotted Kali...who was, ironically, by a side exit.

Then she saw Camie. "Oh...hi, Utsushimi... Fancy meeting you here. I'm shook."

"Don't act cute with me, b----," Camie said. "We all know what you're about, now. And you're with some creepy group. You were never really a student, were you?"

"Seeing you makes me feel some nostalgia about my days undercover as a Hero," Kali said. She waved her hand lazily. "But honestly, sucking up to Heroes was so nauseating..."

"Why are you here?" Camie frowned. "Are you looking for Bakugo? Once wasn't enough?"

"While your boyfriend is kind of cute, Camie, I'm afraid I've got bigger fish to fry than just him," Kali said. "But if you think I'm dumb enough to tell you what I want, well, you're even spacier than we all thought. Which is saying something. That bar was high."

"Well, I'm not letting you do whatever it is you're here to do," Camie said, taking a defensive stance.

Kali ran her nail file over her nails. They were already razor sharp. "Camie, even if I didn't clearly outmatch you physically, did you forget about my quirk? Come a little closer, I dare you." Her eyes gleamed scarily.

Camie swallowed.

"I remember," she said, "but your quirk can hurt you too. I remember that... I'm not like the other suckers, Kali. I've seen your weaknesses too."

"You could never beat me even when I was weak," Kali said. "But I'm much stronger now, Camie. And I'm dying to test that on you. I loathe you most of all."

"I seriously don't know what I ever did to you," Camie said, "but I guess if you were just evil the whole time, I don't need to take it personally, do I?"

Kali frowned. "No, I really do loathe you."

"Well, the feeling is mutual," Camie said. "But unlike you, I have reasons--you're psychotic."

"Psychotic is just another word for interesting, Camie," Kali said. "But by all means, attack me first." She smiled. "Then I have an excuse."

Camie hesitated... Kali kind of still unnerved her, even after all this time... Did she really want to do this? But if she didn't, Kali would do what she came to do.

She pursed her lips. "So if I don't attack you, you'll just let me walk away, is what you're saying."

Kali frowned. "Excuse me?"

"You said you can attack me if I attack first, right?" Camie said. "So if I don't, you have to, like, not, because of some weird code? Is that it?"

"I think I can make an exception," Kali said.

"Well...then come at me, b----." Camie waved at her tauntingly. "What, you scared I'll whup your butt?"

"You think that kind of taunt is going to work on me?" Kali said. "I wasn't dropped on my head as a child, like you."

"That sounds like loser talk to me," Camie said. "What, you afraid to hurt yourself with your stupid quirk so you want me to get closer? I can just stall you till other people get here."

"As if that would stop me," Kali said. "I can leave any time."

"But you won't complete your mission, will you?" Camie said.

Finally, Kali showed a little sign of unease.

"And I bet your boss won't like that, whoever they are," Camie said. "So if I just stall you, you'll get in trouble, right? Win-win for me."

"Don't try to be clever, Camie. It's like a cat dressing up as a dog."

"I'm not the dog out of the two of us," Camie shot back.

Kali glared at her. "I forgot how obnoxious you are."

"Well, since you're not attacking me, I must be right," Camie said. "Suck it." She flipped her off again.

Kali's eyes darkened. "You want to die? Fine, Camie. I'll kill you." She flicked the nail file, and it expanded into some kind of sword/knife-like weapon, much longer than before.

"Okay, that was kind of lit," Camie said, "but still not far enough."

Kali jumped up and used the wall to kick off, then she sprang down at Camie.

Camie dodged, and she hit the ground instead. But she was up again.

Camie kicked her away. Kali bounded back up before she even hit the ground.

No quirk...so she must really be worried about its side effects.

Camie knew only one way to defeat Moto for training, and she wasn't sure she had the room here to do it. She needed distance...and backed up.

"Hey, Bubbles," Dabi's voice suddenly called--he was at the end of the alley, "need a little help taking out some garbage?"

Kali looked back.

"Great, the convict," she said. "I'm sure fire will go great with my quirk... Oh, maybe I can burn this whole place down... I bet that would convince the government he should be locked up for life."

Camie winced. "Dabi, get back. I got this," she called.

"That's an obvious trick," Dabi said.

"It might be, but she'll do it anyway. She's crazy," Camie said.

"Crazy?" Kali said. She sliced at Camie while Camie was distracted, cutting her along one arm. "I'm just effective. You don't know if I'll do it, right? Well, believe me, I would just for s---s and giggles. Sounds pretty fun to me."

"Then you so have told us your plan," Camie said, flipping back.

Dabi swore. But he got out of sight.

Camie wished she had a weapon, but nothing much was out here.

She was just going to have to be faster.

[Copycat-- Billie Eilish]

For a while it was just them dodging attacks. Kali would get close, Camie would land a hit, and then she'd miss her next 5 swings.

She got cut a few more times.

It only lasted for a few minutes, but they were both focused, so it seemed longer.

Kali still didn't use her quirk.

Camie finally thought of the reason.

When they'd been in school together, Kali had used her quirk on Camie a few times, but it affected Camie's glamour, not her body.

Camie's quirk had corrupted, but the illusions had still happened, only they turned into something really ghastly and disjointed. It was every bit as distracting as before.

"Oh my gosh!" Camie cried in the middle of dodging a swing. "That's why you hate me so much!"

"Huh?" Kali hadn't really expected her to talk.

"It's because your quirk doesn't stop me," Camie said. "It backfired on you, so you're pissed about that, right?"

Kali scowled. "You think I need my quirk to stop you?"

"Well, it's been, like, 5 minutes, and you still haven't done that much damage," Camie said.

Kali stopped moving. "You think I'm really trying to do damage?"

"Uh...not really," Camie admitted.

"Well, good, we're clear on that," Kali said.

"Then what do you want?" Camie stopped too.

"Well, I wouldn't normally explain, but we do go way back." Kali leaned on the wall. "I'm not here for you, Camie. It's funny, all this ended up accomplishing what we wanted after all."

The shadows on the wall behind her seemed to rise up, ready to suck her back in.

Camie suddenly lunged at her when she wasn't expecting it and yanked her forward, then flipped her over her head.

Stunned, she dropped her nail file/death stick and slammed into the wall of the building across the alley from the agency.

She groaned and sat up dizzily.

Camie planted one boot on her chest. "I'm not playing nice any more, you psycho." She picked up the nail file and pointed it at Kali. "What did you freaking do?"

Kali coughed a little. "Where did you get the spine for that?"

"I'm not scared of you," Camie scoffed. "I've faced down scarier people than you, Moto."

"It's Tomomoto, you imbecile," Kali said. "Moto's not my real name."

"Are you seriously saying your full name means 'the first friend of darkness'?" Camie translated it.

"Why not?" Kali's eyes seemed to darken till they were black. "I was the first friend."

Camie was startled. "What the--?"

Something seemed to grab her from behind and yanked her back, and the sky went dark, and the ground became a black abyss, and she was falling down it.

Kali snatched her file-sword back and held it up, ready to end this.

Then a blast of fire hit her, and she flew down the alley till she hit one of the trash bins.

Bakugo came tearing into the alley.

"Dude," Kirishima followed him, "careful. I remember her now. Her quirk can make your quirk go haywire."

"Don't freaking let her get a chance to use it!" Bakugo said.

He took Camie's arm. "Camie, snap out of it."

Camie jolted. "Uhh...Baku? Oh, gosh, it was horrible." She grabbed his arm. "I saw something..."

"Uh...am I the only one who sees that?" Kirishima suddenly sounded ghostly.

They looked.

Along the wall--though it was black so it was hard to see--there was a different shadow, in the shape of some kind of phantom.

Kali sat up, not seeming hurt despite Bakugo using an AP shot that should have burned her severely.

"I didn't come alone, suckers," she called triumphantly. "You all have failed." She darted into the shadow itself.

"Uh...you saw that too, right?" Kirishima said.

Bakugo blasted the wall. "Go to hell, you scumbag!" he yelled. "Go in the name of The All Powerful, better-than-you God."

The shadows were gone.

Camie rubbed her head. "I had her, but something grabbed me. Not fair. I could have beat her a--."

"So we get you another chance," Bakugo said.

"Bae, I remember-- her quirk doesn't hurt me that much," Camie said. "I never thought of it before, but I think that's partly why she hates me. The point is, I think I can beat her. She's pretty tough, but after the ninja world, she's nothing. But if those...demon things are helping her, I can't. So if you can keep them off me, maybe I can get her cornered."

"Sounds like a plan," Bakugo said.

"She said she wasn't here for me," Camie said. "Where do you think she went? Endeavor's office?"

"Endeavor isn't here," Bakugo said. "And to get to his stuff, she'd have to go through--" Suddenly he stopped, then he swore.

"Mabui," Camie finished. "Oh...frick no."

They ran, Kirishima asking, "Guys, what was that black thing? Was it someone's quirk?"

"Doesn't matter, fahm, it's evil either way," Camie said. "Just stay away from it. Tell the sidekicks to keep away. She'll just use them as weapons."

"I'm so confused but fine," Kirishima said. He darted off towards the back.

Bakugo and Camie ran towards the desk.

* * *

Mabui had been left alone for only about 2 minutes when she felt a chill on her spine.

She looked up and saw in her peripheral someone melting out of the shadows under one of the desks, holding a long sharp-looking weapon.

The instincts of a Jonin ninja gave Mabui the ability to dodge without even indicating she'd seen, and she sprang over the desk, so that the attacker ended up jamming the weapon into the chair instead.

A girl about 16 or 17 years old, but Mabui recognized her as Camie's old classmate, who was crazy.

"D---, how did you do that?" The girl didn't seem that upset.

Mabui blinked. "Why are you trying to kill me? I'm just the secretary."

"Oh, don't be coy, Mabui Tsukura," Kali said, straightening. "You're so much more than a secretary, aren't you? You're a high level ninja from another world. A living weapon with an interesting ability. And I'm afraid that's why you have to die."

Mabui sort of laughed ironically. "Well...if I had money for every time I've heard those words... You'd do well in my world, miss...uh, what was your name again?"

"It won't matter," Kali said.

Something shoved Mabui from behind. It felt like a hand.

The world started to go dark in front of her eyes.

Genjutsu!

Mabui didn't lose her head. She pushed back. "Stop!" she said, her eyes gleaming kind of silvery for a moment.

The light returned just in time for her to duck Kali's next attack. Mabui went down and kicked sideways to throw the girl off her feet.

Then she jumped and stuck to the ceiling. Looking down at Kali, she held up her hands.

A chair fell out of the air and almost knocked Kali to the floor, but the girl somehow rolled out of the way.

"You've learned to use your abilities well, even here," a voice spoke...but it wasn't Kali's.

Mabui thought it was the darkness on the walls talking.

"How do you know who I am?" she said.

"You can't hide your dreams from us," the voice said, "and they reveal everything..."

Mabui winced.

Kali seemed to be waiting for her to come down.

"We could kill you like we planned," the voice went on, "but there is another possibility. If you truly want to learn of us and our ways, why not just follow Kali? We should meet face to face. There's no reason for our two worlds to quarrel, is here? Your home shouldn't be dragged into this-- You do still care about it, don't you? Or did you abandon them, Tsukura, for a better offer?"

Images of her old life flashed in front of her mind like some kind of trigger response.

Mabui clutched her head. "Ahh...stop it! Stay out of my head!" Her eyes blazed again.

The images receded.

"Impressive. Your resistance is almost as high as those two clowns," the voice went on. "You could be stronger than them, even, with a little more training... Why learn from them? If you learn from us, we'll spare your world."

"You could never hurt my world," Mabui said. "It's out of your reach. I'm no fool."

"But what if it wasn't out of our reach?" the voice said.

Mabui's blood ran cold.

"What if it's within our reach? All worlds...all peoples, all nations... And what are you doing here? Throwing your lot in with strangers? People you barely know--for what? A crush that doesn't even go both ways? A hope that you'll finally belong somewhere? That people will care for more than your clerical skills? With us you would have far more purpose, and you could save your people....You could matter. You don't matter here. You'll be a nameless face, standing in their midst forever. Don't let them fool you. A worldling never belongs anywhere."

"Stop--" Mabui normally didn't find such things that hard to resist, but the words seemed to be pounding in her head. And her heart.

"But it's the truth. You feel it deep down."

A terrible sinking feeling came over Mabui.

"Why did you come here at all? Was it really because you thought you should, or did you just know there was nothing left for you? You were supposed to die. You know this." The voice didn't let up.

"Stop," Mabui said. "I won't be swayed by the likes of you."

"How are we so different? You come from a village of thieves, killers, and backstabbers, and you call it serving the people. What are you but a generation of vipers? Of criminals? And yet you pass yourself off as a heroic, normal citizen. You think you'll escape the guilt of bloodshed that way? Can you make up for the needless lives sacrificed for your village's weak goals? But if it's so important to you, then save it. Do as we say."

Kali smirked.

Mabui's feet lost their hold on the ceiling, and she dropped to the ground, feeling dizzy.

Her head spun.

Kali was looming over her.

"Hey!" Camie's voice cut across the air, seeming to break the confusion a little. "Back up, b----!"

Kali looked up. "You really don't know when to quit, Camie."

Camie ploughed into her and knocked her over.

Kali twisted and tried to impale her with the file.

Camie grabbed her wrist, then blew out a huge cloud of glamour.

It filled the air, and lights shot off and gun sounds and fireworks.

Black dust appeared, as if it was attacking the glamour.

Mabui rubbed her temples, trying to refocus.

Suddenly, Dabi was there, pulling her up and carrying her out of the room into the outer hallway.

Bakugo was blasting at some more shadows, telling them to go to hell.

"Don't let that crazy b---- touch you" he yelled at Dabi. "Get out of here!"

Dabi ran for the for the exit.

"D----d psycho," he muttered. "Are you okay? Mabui? Come on, say something."

He sounded really worried.

Mabui blinked. "I think I'm okay..." she said slowly. "I heard a voice in my head...or maybe it was real.... Oh--" She grabbed his coat suddenly. "Touya, they know who I am. They know everything! All about me!"

"What? How could they know that?"

"Dreams! They can read dreams."

"Oh...no, I heard that," Dabi said darkly. "But yours...why would they bother?"

"I don't know. Maybe they picked it out of someone else's mind and investigated further," Mabui said. "But this is not good... I was supposed to remain anonymous here... I don't want to be hunted again by...by people like this." She was shaken up.

Dabi pulled her closer. "Hey, don't panic. We just have to beat these guys once and for all. No one's gonna kidnap you on our watch. Deep breaths."

Mabui inhaled slowly.

"Why would they want you, though?" Dabi wondered to himself.

"My power..." Mabui said. "Same old same old, isn't it?"

"Your...but..." Dabi was puzzled. "You don't have a quirk."

"They must know that, but they don't seem to care."

"That doesn't make any sense," Dabi said. "We've got to figure this out, but the kids probably need help."

"We're here." Shine and Wally appeared, having dashed up.

"It's true, this place is shadowed," Shine said. "But it wasn't before. It must be temporary. Mabui what happened to you?"

"Nevermind me. The kids are in trouble," Mabui said.

"I'll go." Wally ran inside.

"Nowhere is safe." Dabi looked at Shine seriously. "No matter what. They'll find us."

"I think you may be right," Shine said. "I don't like it, but..."

* * *

Camie kept fighting Kali even with the dust... It turned her illusions to horrific visions, but she didn't pay attention to it.

Kali, true to Camie's prediction, inhaled some of her own quirk because Camie was holding her down, and she started to cough and look kind of ill.

"I'll kill you," she said hatefully. "For this, Camie, you'll die slowly, I swear."

"Girl, I'm not even tripping over that." Camie kicked her into the wall. "You're pathetic, using your dopey quirk on us."

"Well..." Kali coughed, "I didn't just need to use it on you."

"Huh?" Camie said.

"Don't go in there!" she heard Bakugo yell.

Burnin came running into the room. "I will go in if there's an emergency--That's my job! Maboro Camie what are you doing? Who is this?"

"Burnin, no!" Camie said. "Get out of here!"

Burnin started coughing. "What...what is this?" Her fire started to turn the wrong shade of green...and blazed up.

"Oops..." Kali said. "Guess I made a boo boo there, huh, Camie? I hope she doesn't burn this place down... Sure would be ironic."

"The walls are fire resistant, idiot," Camie said.

"Like I didn't know that," Kali said. "But her fire's not original anymore, is it?"

Green fire started to spread over the floor.

"Hey! What's going on!" Burnin said. "I can't stop it! Camie?!"

Kali threw Camie off while she was distracted, and then she dove and vanished into shadows.

Wally came running in and grabbed Camie. "I got you." He reached for Burnin.

"No, don't!" She pulled back. "I'll set you on fire... Go! Take her... Something's wrong with my quirk."

"I think it'd be better if I took you," Wally said.

Burnin just stumbled away in response.

The fire was making a wall.

"Okay." Wally ran Camie outside. "I'll have to get her separately. Maybe get a fire extinguisher." He ran off.
