Part 256: Facing the Giant

It was... "Ren?" she said faintly.

"Rumi!" Ren actually hugged her. "Are you okay?"

Mirko decided she'd died already and this was some kind of post mortem hallucination. Because there was no way Ren could have been here.

"Yours is the last face I see, huh?" she said, not realizing how out of it she still sounded.

"Uh...are you...? Uh oh, I think she's kind of fading out," Ren said to someone.

"Well, look at her. She's clearly been running for a long time." That was Hawks, though he sounded a bit tinny.

"I can't believe this!"

That had to be Shigaraki--no mistaking that cadence...

Mirko slowly realized she couldn't be hallucinating this. She'd never hallucinate all of them being here together, no way.

"Hang on." She blinked suddenly. "Ren, you're actually here?"

"Oh, goo--" Ren began. She punched him.

He reeled back a little. "Ow--okay, she's fine now."

"All right, Rumi just stay calm." Hawks got in her path. "How many wings am I holding up?"

"You only have two, dumba--," Mirko said.

"Right, good. Now, can you tell us where that thing came from?" Hawks said.

"Don't ask her stupid questions, you dolt!" Shigaraki snapped. "That's Master's previous successor! He's going to kill all of you! Get out of here. I'll go tell him to stop."

"Did...did all of you...? Wait, how did you know where I was?" Mirko asked seriously.

"I traced your phone." Ren was way proud of himself. "I mean, you dropped it, stupid." He rapped her head, which annoyed her because he was so much taller than her. "But luckily, Hawks saw you beelining in through the trees. You're faster than I remember. But then we saw this huge monster guy, and he's super fast and ugly, and he keep yelling things about rabbits...real horror-movie-type stuff."

"Yeah, I guess Big Foot is real," Hawks said tightly.

"Whoa, man." Ren noticed Shigaraki was actually leaving. "Are you serious? I thought that was joke. You can't go fighting that thing alone...unless you think you can decay him."

"I doubt it." Shigaraki looked back. "But he'll listen to me. We worked that out...probably."

"Probably, huh?" Hawks said. "And if he doesn't?"

"Well...Ujiko will have to call him off," Shigaraki said. "He wouldn't kill me."

"Newflash: Ujiko ran off like a coward," Mirko said. "I wouldn't count on him to even know you're here till it's too late."

Silence.

"And you all came?" Mirko added. "Wow...I'm impressed."

"You must be a little dizzy still," Hawks said, "because I could have sworn the word impressed just left your mouth."

"Less lip, more planning," Ren said nervously. "He's too close already."

The giant snapped some trees out of the way and saw them.

"And that's close enough." Hawks scooped them all up and flew for it.

Gigantomachia used one tree to swing at him like he was a baseball.

Hawks ducked, but it grazed him enough to send him flying off, and they all plummeted too. The trees broke their fall...sort off...

Ren hit his arm hard on a branch and yelped...

They all hit the dirt.

"Now would be a good time for Endeavor to show up," Ren moaned... "I think I may have just dislocated my arm...ow...."

Mirko hopped over to him. "Yeah, you did," she said. "Hang on, I've got it."

She picked up his arm and put her foot on it and shoved. [This does actually work.]

Ren yelped but then he moved it. "I...think it's okay... Wow...I hate you so much right now, but that was kind of cool too."

"Get up." Mirko pulled him up. "Get out of here, Ren. You don't stand a chance of outrunning him."

"Oh, I know that," Ren said, "but where would I run to?"

Good point.

"He gets tired eventually," Shigaraki said, brushing himself off.

"How long?" Ren said.

"I think he went as long as 8 hours..."

"It's been less than 45 minutes," Mirko said.

Her real question was why Shigaraki was even here, but she didn't think it was the time to ask.

"You know...I'm just glad you're not dead yet," Ren said to Mirko. "I thought you were..."

"Oh, you know it takes more than a little giant to kill me." She put on a fake brave face and made a fist. "I've been running circles around this d-----."

The "d-----" turned his eye on them again right then.

Shigaraki put his "plan" into action.

He stepped forward a bit. "Listen. Stop this. Go back to sleep. We don't need you anymore."

Gigantamachia eyed Shigaraki like he was trying to remember who he was. "Successor?" he said.

"Is he...all there?" Ren asked Mirko.

"He doesn't seem like he is," Mirko said.

"So he's a nomu, then?"

"I'd say something like that."

"So if we kill him, it's not murder, then?" Ren asked.

"Probably not."

"Yes." Shigaraki waited to see if it would work.

Gigantomachia hesitated, then he said, "Even if I accept Successor, I still serve AFO's will, and I kill the rabbit."

"In the list of reasons I have to be pissed off at Ujiko, him designating me as 'the rabbit' to this thing is high up," Mirko hissed.

"Maybe should run while he's distracted," Ren said.

"No, if we run, he'll be on us at once." Mirko's ears twitched. "That's how these predators think. We're better off holding still."

"You watch too much animal planet, sis. He's not a tiger," Ren said.

"That's more a lion, actually." Shigaraki didn't even look back.

"Ujiko's will is not the same as AFO's," he attempted again. "Stand down."

But it seemed he was only confusing the giant...and that made him angry. With a roar, he yelled, "Destroy!"

"And that's freaking terrifying..." Ren covered his ears.

"And that's our cue." Mirko grabbed Ren by the arm and dashed for it.

Shigaraki ran after them, keeping up surprisingly well.

"So, any more brilliant ideas?" Ren puffed... "Ah, I'm not made for this kind of exertion. I'm a nerd."

"Stop b----ing and just run," Mirko panted.

"With the League we could keep him busy for longer," Shigaraki said, "but there's only four of us, if Hawks is not down for the count. And you can't run for crap, so...not a lot. If it was me he was after, it would be easy."

"Oh, sure," Mirko said, "I can't handle it, huh?"

"You don't seem to be handling it very well."

"Well, you know what? Next time I'm kidnapped and shoved in cage by a mad scientist who wants to dissect me, I'll plan ahead better for my running away route!" Mirko shot back.

"Can you two quarrel later?" Ren said. "I need my lungs for breathing right now, not yelling." He gasped... "Uh oh..."

Mirko swallowed. "Oh no, not now."

Ren started gasping more.

"What's wrong with him?" Shigaraki paused.

"Ren has asthma," Mirko said frantically, "not bad, usually, but..."

"I'm okay. I just need my inhaler." Ren reached for his pocket.

The giant got closer.

Hawks suddenly flew up. "Hey! Big guy! Over here!" He waved at it.

Gigantomachia turned his way a little.

Ren pulled out his inhaler and started taking deep breaths.

"You can't run..." Mirko was finally panicking. Her own immediate demise wouldn't have done this, but Ren's situation would. "This is not good, not good, not good."

"Sis, get a grip!" Ren yanked her arm. "Anyone'd think I was the target here. Please. I'll be fine if I get out of his line of sight. You have to run."

"He's right. He's after you," Shigaraki said. "Ren can just hide, and he'll forget about him."

Mirko looked up. "Right, fine, I'll run... If you die, Ren, I'm gonna come back here and kick the crap out of you, got it?"

"I'm not gonna die, sis. Geez, where's that Hero bravado now?" Ren shoved her. "Go."

Mirko ran.

"To be honest, I might die," Ren said. "I mean, not from this--I have my medicine--but from stress... This is pretty hella scary. You better get her out of here, man. You and Hawks gotta work better together. I'm finding that Fuyumi chick. She's hopefully still in one piece. Good luck. May the force be with you and all that."

Shigaraki didn't get that joke, but Ren rushed into the trees, and he ran.

Of course he had no plan...other than finding Ujiko.

Mirko could probably hold off the giant for a bit longer, now that she'd had a chance to catch her breath.

"Hey, idiot!" He flagged Hawks down.

Hawks was following the giant, but he looked back. "A little busy here."

"I have an idea," Shigaraki said.

"Is it as good as your last ones that involved stalking and then trying to talk a murderous maniac off the ledge?" Hawks said.

"If Ujiko is giving him orders, then he can call him off," Shigaraki said. "We only need to find him. Mirko can stall for a bit."

"You know him so well, and yet you didn't see this coming." Hawks crossed his arms. "Convenient... I'm still suspicious of you. I'm not sure she's fine on her own. She's already exhausted."

"Can you fight him?" Shigaraki asked.

Pause.

"All right, fine," Hawks said, "only because I figure it might work even if you are lying. I'll look high. You look low, I guess."

He flew up, and his feathers shot out again.

Shigaraki figured if Ujiko had hidden around here, it was going to be where the giant wouldn't be likely to rampage... He eyed a hill not too far from the cluster of trees they were in.

He tried to warp and was able to actually do it this time... The little nomu must not be too close...

Running up the hill, Shigaraki looked for a cave or hollow...and then he saw one.

And sure enough, Ujiko was in it, watching some kind of screen. Either it was attached to the giant, or he had some drone flying around watching all this. He was clapping his hands. "Yes, Gigantomachia! Yes, crush her like--" He looked up.

Shigaraki was just...staring.

"Ah, Tomura, you're just in time," Ujiko finally said. "This will be the best part. I'm rabbit hunting."

* * *

Hawks tried to slow the giant down.

"Did you ever expect to be in this position?" he called to Mirko, using a feather to speed her along.

He couldn't control them from that far away though, and the problem was if he sent her only a little ways off, the thing would just find her again...and he might lead it towards other people.

"Not ever in my life," Mirko called back. "Well, maybe after watching Attack On Titan..."

[lol]

"It is kind of, but I never watch anime..." Hawks said. "I always thought it was kind of unrealistic."

[lol again.]

"Looking a bit more believable right now," Mirko said.

She jumped over a hill.

She found Shigaraki and Ujiko by doing that.

"Oh...didn't think she'd turn this way. Why didn't you warn me?" Ujiko sounded peeved.

"You!" Mirko's ears went back.

"As I was saying," Ujiko ignored her, "this is all for the best. You understand now? We can't let this go on."

What had he been saying? Mirko would have asked, but she was too busy gasping for breath.

The giant was charging again.

Hawks tried to slow it down again, using trees, but he wasn't doing much more than annoying it.

Shigaraki seemed kind of withdrawn right then... No! now was not the time for his traumatic upbringing to kick in. [It never is, is it?

She remembered what Ujiko had said before though...

Somehow that did more to kill her spirits than even Ren had... This was hopeless, wasn't it?

She looked back at Gigantomachia.

Ujiko couldn't have asked for a better set up... It was so unfair!

She had the idea that it wouldn't be good for Shigaraki to watch...like it would reaffirm all the stuff they'd ever told him about the world and himself...and it wasn't going to end well... She didn't understand these matters very well--Shine probably would have known exactly how--but instinct alone would tell you this much.

She looked back at them. The funny thing was, she didn't even try to talk to Shigaraki. She just looked at Ujiko with utter disgust. "You're the monster," she said, and it wasn't just Hero bravado--she meant it with every fiber of her soul.

Ujiko was a bit startled at that. "Am I?" he said. "Or is this your fault? You could have held off. But you didn't. He knows what has to be done as well as I do."

"Yeah, somehow I knew you'd say that." Mirko was mad now. "You're such a weasel. You do evil things, and then you put the blame back on him, or me, or anyone else who happens to be around for you to use. All Might too. Well, you know what? Maybe it'll work because you defied the law of nature enough to create that monster over there, and we're not willing to go that far, but I'm happier dying because of that than I would be living like you. But if I'm going down, I want to hear you admit it. This was what you wanted, you slithering snake--not the League and not us."

Ujiko sneered. "Your babbling means nothing to me. But I do think I'd better move."

He motioned for the smaller nomu.

There was a moment where time just seemed to stand still, because the giant was getting closer, and they could hardly hear anything but his footsteps...

And then Shigaraki suddenly reached out, grabbed the little nomu by its head...and disintegrated it.

The shock was real.

Mirko's heart jumped into her throat...not that it was that far from it anyway with all that running.

"What--?" Ujiko had not seen that coming. "What have you done? Now we're stuck."

"No. You can call him off," Shigaraki said, totally calm (somehow they could hear him over the thumping), "or you can stand here and die."

Mirko's mouth dropped open.

"Do you realize what you're doing?" Ujiko said.

Gigantomachia loomed closer.

Shigaraki wasn't budging...

Mirko didn't know how he could be so calm. She was doing her best not to jump like a scared rabbit at how loud it was.

She covered her ears.

Ujiko stalled a moment longer but then lost his nerve. Grabbing a device, he pressed a button.

They couldn't hear anything, but the radio around Gigantomachia's neck must have turned on. He slowed suddenly, then stopped and sat down.

Mirko blinked... Holy crap, that actually worked...

"So this is what you want, huh?" Ujiko said. "To betray me? To interfere with my right to kill whatever I don't like."

Mirko didn't know what she thought was going to happen, but what did happen shocked her.

Shigaraki moved in front of her, like...protectively?

"She's one of us now. Within the League we don't indulge those wishes. That goes for everyone. Even you."

"A Pro Hero will never be able to coexist with the LOV in peace," Ujiko spat, mad now. "You're still naive after all this time."

Mirko slyly moved her foot and kicked dust in his face.

Ujiko started coughing.

"Why you b----! How dare you!"

"Wimp," Mirko said scornfully.

Ujiko straightened. "Well, Tomura, you've made your choice there, I guess. I hope it turns out well, just like with your family."

That was such a cheap shot, but Shigaraki was not used to people actually being able to jab him about that.

He didn't react verbally...but some sort of image flashed in front of his mind, and he put a hand to his head... It felt like it was splitting.

"Hey!" Mirko yelled at Ujiko. "That was despicable, and you knew it! This is nothing alike anyway. And you're not one to talk." This might turn back the other way if Ujiko got Shigaraki to have a flashback series right now.

Ujiko pressed a button on the device he had.

But instead of the giant moving, there was a horrible piercing siren noise...

It seemed to get inside her head and pound on her brain...

Mirko covered her ears again and felt dizzy.

"Hey?" Hawks flew up. "What are you doing...?"

"Oh, nothing," Ujiko said. "I just turned on a high frequency... It may or may not be one that only animals could hear...or people with animal quirks...not like yours, Hawks. I mean real ones. Of course an unfortunate side effect could be it turns someone's brain to mush with enough exposure, but that's just science... Oops." He flipped another switch, and the giant suddenly looked up. And glared at them. Then he started moving again.

"Frick!" Hawks cried. He dove for the device.

"Ah, careful," Ujiko said. "If you smash it, you can't stop the giant either. And you'll die anyway. Now, you can either fly me out of here, and maybe it'll turn it off, or we can all stand here and wait for our doom. I have a feeling that the giant may spare me, though."

Mirko suddenly fell over, looking like she was passing out.

"I don't think he's bluffing." Hawks looked wan. "Fine...you win." He used feathers to pick Ujiko up. Ujiko took the device with him.

Hawks shot Shigaraki a look that said "do something!" before flying upwards.

Shigaraki had snapped out of it... Dang it, Ujiko had really distracted him with that comment. Why would he even bring that up at such a time?

He had to get Mirko out of here before she had permanent brain damage.

Since he destroyed that other nomu, he should have no problem warping.

And sure enough, he was able to.

He didn't know where to take them, so he just warped back to the edge of the woods, where Fuyumi should have been.

 Didn't see her though...

Also his warping was not helping him... He felt more sick than ever...

Mirko moaned slightly and pressed her ears. Good sign? Bad sign?

Why was he freaking out so much?

"Did it stop?" he asked.

Mirko didn't answer. She slowly blinked, though, and looked up. Then she covered her mouth and hopped behind a bush.

She smacked into a tree in the process of jumping...

Maybe that signal threw off her balance... Shigaraki didn't know that much about ear science.

[But that's a good guess.]

He looked up. Hawks was still flying Ujiko away.

Where was Ren?

Mirko reappeared, leaning on the tree and not looking too good.

"That was fun," she said too loudly. "Uh...I don't know if this is normal, but I can't hear anything...at all...so if you're talking, I don't know..." She rubbed her ears again. "Also my head is pounding from that..."

She looked around warily.

Well...this was not good.

Shigaraki wondered if Ujiko had that ready just in case this happened... He really went all out when he tried to kill someone.

He'd been telling his reason before the others showed up...something about goals and destruction and nature... It kind of blurred together. But the sum of it was that Mirko was not part of the League's agenda... Well, it was true, but plans change. Anyway, that didn't give him an excuse. Shigaraki was still pissed about that.

Well, if Ujiko wanted to play dirty, fine. They could do that too. But then he would need to find Ren first.

"Come on." He motioned at Mirko.

"What?" she said, still too loud. "What do you want?"

This would take forever.

Shigaraki walked up, grabbed her by the wrist, and started walking.

Mirko looked surprised but followed, tripping... Apparently a lot of her ability to navigate with the ease she did was dependent on being able to hear. She was acting like a drunk person now.

Then she tripped. And swore, of course...

She looked up. "The ground is still moving..." she said, sounding defeated. "I can't run like this... I guess he thought of everything."

Speaking of which, the giant was getting closer again. Shigaraki would know--he'd run from him for days. He knew when he was getting close.

Well...there was only one solution in this case.

Mirko wasn't ready when he just yanked her up and picked her off her feet. No sense trying to explain if she couldn't hear. She'd just have to be smart enough to figure it out.

Shigaraki wasn't one to do this normally, but he had no time to wait for someone else to help and no wish to let that thing catch him, not after before, so he pushed aside his wish to avoid this situation and just ran for it.

Mirko didn't kick him, at least. She seemed too shocked to react.

Going this way, Shigaraki started yelling, "Ren! Ren! You b-----d! Where did you go?"

"Hey," Ren finally answered. He was...there, between trees. "My parents are married, you jerk!"

"We have a problem," Shigaraki said.

"Uh...are you...?" Ren suddenly realized what was going on. "Oh...wow...I never thought I'd see this."

Mirko knew Ren well enough to guess what he said. She flipped him off.

"Nevermind. You have to do something, or we're all going to die," Shigaraki snapped. "Listen, Ujiko is carrying a device, got it? You need to break it or something...and then you need to get closer to that radio thing on the giant's neck and turn it on."

"Oh, sure," Ren said, "and while I'm at it, I'll take a spin around the moon for some green cheese and dance with the stars, because that's about as possible as what you just said."

Mirko made a "what the frick?" gesture.

"I don't know what you just said," she said, still too loudly, "but it looks over-complicated."

"Just shut up." Ren made a shushing motion at her. "Let the men talk, huh?" He smirked. "If I said that normally, she'd knock me on my a--, so I'm going to take this chance. Ooh, another thing, Sis--you're totally a cute, little bunny."

Mirko was puzzled. "You want to keep running?" she said.

"Don't you find this a little unfair?" Shigaraki said.

"Uh...not really," Ren said. "Is it fair that she challenges me to races she knows I can't win just because she can?"

"Put your moral questions aside for later! Listen, you can probably get close enough if Hawks flies you, right? What are you two morons good for but doing reckless s--- like this?" Shigaraki said.

"Very inspiring words, Senpai." Ren bowed to him. "But I'm not in the mood to die today."

"It's either that, or it'll catch us," Shigaraki said. "And it's the only way to stop Ujiko from running off again. I want to have words with him." He looked scary.

Ren sort of grinned...just the same way Mirko did... It was kind of creepy.

"All right...well, what the heck? Think we can do it?" He looked over.

Fuyumi was hiding behind the tree, shaking. "I-I think Hawks will help. I have one of his feathers here." She held it up. "I hope he heard all that. If you're ready."

"Wow, he really thought ahead," Ren said. "By the way, just gonna say this now, he totally likes you, and if I were you, I'd tap that."

Fuyumi looked shocked. "Mr. Usagiyama!"

"What does that mean?" Shigaraki asked.

"Uh..." Ren said, "it's what I'll kill you for if you try to do to my sister."

"You want her to kill Hawks?" Shigaraki said.

Fuyumi reddened. "No! Don't listen to him. His mind is clearly in the gutter."

"Blame my sisters for that," Ren said.

A different feather suddenly scooped him up and sent him up towards Hawks and Ujiko.

Mirko rubbed her ear. "The ringing is starting to go away a little... What was all that about?"

"Nothing." Fuyumi waved frantically. "Just some nonsense."

"All I got was 'nothing' but whatever," Mirko said. She straightened. "I hope the plan was good, since I didn't get a word of it... This is so weird..."

"Maybe you should just sit down." Fuyumi took her arm and tugged her toward the tree.

* * *

Ren got close enough to Ujiko, who was just telling Hawks to fly away faster. Ujiko didn't know Ren's quirk and didn't have anything to hit him with anyway.

Ren mentally reached out and tore the wiring inside the device.

Then he nodded at Hawks.

The feather shot forward at the giant, swooping under his arm so he couldn't grasp at Ren. Ren would have a split second before he reacted...

He zeroed in on the radio and willed it to turn on...

And...it did... He was close enough to hear--It was a voice...a sort of overly soothing, sly sounding kind of voice... Was it AFO's?

The effect on the giant was immediate. He stopped rampaging and lay down, then he seemed to just fall asleep.

Ren felt a little dizzy... Wow...he actually pulled that off.

Hawks, seeing this, came back down.

"Why isn't it working...?" Ujiko was fiddling with his device frantically. "You, what did you do to it?" He pointed at Ren accusingly.

Ren cocked his head. "Nothing," he said slyly.

Shigaraki, Mirko, and Fuyumi looked out. The giant had been almost to where they were.

"What happened?" Mirko asked, still not back to normal.

Ren just gave her a thumbs up, then he looked at Ujiko narrowly, walked up, and punched him dead in the face. He wasn't much of a fighter, but he had picked up a few things from his wild siblings, and he knew how to throw a punch.

Ujiko went flat on his back.

"That was for trying to kill Rumi," Ren said.

Mirko snickered.

"Wow..." Fuyumi winced. "My dad says they'll be here any second, by the way."

Ujiko rubbed his jaw. "Are you just going to let them get away with that, Tomura?" he whined. "Remember how long we have been allies? You would turn me over to the Heroes? Really? All I do, I do for AFO."

"Did he tell you to do this?" Shigaraki asked.

"Even if he says yes," Hawks said warily, "you can't trust it. He lied to you before."

Shigaraki thought about it. "I guess that might be true...but he's right--It wouldn't be right to just hand him over."

"I knew you would see it my way," Ujiko said.

"This doesn't mean you're just off the hook," Shigaraki said. "You deliberately sabotaged our plans... Even if  you had a good reason, that is not how we are supposed to do things."

"A good reason?!" Ren choked.

"Well, he thought it was," Shigaraki said, still totally clueless. "Misguided perhaps, but still."

"Is...is he real?" Hawks asked.

"Hawks," Fuyumi spoke, "I don't think we will win this one... I sort of see how Mr. Shigaraki feels. I don't know if I'd turn in Touya if I got the chance...since I didn't. It's wrong to ask him to do this."

"Well, is it wrong to do it ourselves, then?" Hawks said.

Ujiko pulled something out of his clothes and tossed it.

It was a smoke bomb...

They all coughed. When the smoke cleared, Ujiko was out of sight.

Hawks frowned. "I can find him again." He summoned his feathers and pulled The Doctor out of the trees.

"Blast!" Ujiko said.

"Let him go," Shigaraki said. "We've let you go enough times, Hawks."

"That's not fair," Hawks said. "This guy is literally a murdering, thieving, mad scientist. And how can you trust him anymore after this?"

"I know he won't stay in a jail even if you put him there," Shigaraki said blandly, "so what's the point? And Master wouldn't like it."

Mirko's ears twitched.

"He no longer has the little nomu. He can't kidnap anyone else, so it doesn't matter," Shigaraki said.

Mirko looked down, scowling.

Fuyumi bit her lip.

"Listen to him," Ujiko said. "He's the successor. And one day all of you will be at his feet, mark my words."

"Shut up!" Hawks shook him. "You're not helping yourself. I still don't want to let you go, you skinflint...but I guess if I don't, this jackass will just warp you away anyway, won't you?"

Shigaraki said nothing.

Hawks put Ujiko down.

"One more thing." Shigaraki looked at Ujiko. "I'm not going to forget about this. I take this breech of our trust very seriously. The entire League will also. Don't ask us to do any more favors for you. If Master asks, that's one thing, but I want proof it's from him next time. I don't trust your word anymore."

Ujiko gawked at him. "Why, you ungrateful little b---" he began.

"I'd take the man up on his offer," Ren interrupted. "You won't get such a nice one from the rest of us."

Ujiko looked around at them.

"Well, fine." He shoved his goggles up. "You want to flit around with these ignorant, vulgar people, that's your business. AFO will have use for me, anyway. And I won't forget this either. I may not get a chance to avenge myself on all of you, but I'm sure he will think of something. Your time is coming, Heroes." He stumbled away into the trees.

"And we let him go..." Ren said. "This didn't boost my self esteem at all... Hope you're happy, man." He looked at Shigaraki.

"I'm never happy," Shigaraki said, "but it doesn't matter. At least we got here in time. That's the main thing."

Mirko turned red. "Well...I still want to beat him up."

"Maybe you'll get your chance," Hawks said darkly. "Next time, I'm not letting him go--I don't care who owes anyone a favor. But at the moment, taking in that giant is going to take all of us anyway, and I don't want to fight Shigaraki right now... You're going to let us do that?"

Shigaraki glanced at Gigantomachia.

"I don't have any use for him," he admitted, "but I doubt any prison will hold him either."

"So do I," Ren said. "But what can you do?"
