The Ghost

At nightfall, Detective Scott Stone left the castle grounds to figure out what was causing the howling. After about an hour, he heard it. He followed the sound to the source, but saw nothing. He was about to leave when, out of the corner of his eye, he saw something.

Something white.

Something almost transparent.

Something frightening.

Something unnatural.

A ghost!

The detective jumped, shocked. He approached the ghost to examine it. Upon noticing him, the ghost fled. Scott tried to follow it. Unfortunately for him, it passed through walls and ceilings to try and lose him. It managed.

After losing the ghost, the detective decided to retire to his temporary chambers. He would tell Lord Addington of his adventures in the morning. As he got into bed, he couldn't help but wonder if other things he presumed imaginary were real. Zombies, vampires, unicorns, fairies and of course, the Loch Ness monster, Nessie. She is, after all, from the detective's home country, Scotland.

After waking up, Scott got dressed and went downstairs to recount his encounter with the ghost. Lord Addington was not there yet but Alastair was preparing breakfast. Detective Stone decided to try an find out whose ghost was haunting this castle. It could be the previous owner, like in most stories, or it could be a deceased rival of Lord Addington. His thoughts were interrupted by the arrival of Lady Addington.

"Good morning, my lady," the detective told her. "Shall your husband be joining us soon?"

"Yes he shall, he was getting prepared when I left the room. Did you find any more information?"

"I did. But I will tell you once Lord Addington has arrived."

The lord of the castle arrived a few minutes later.

"Why don't we discuss your discoveries over breakfast?" Addington suggested.

"Yes, that seems appropriate," Detective Stone answered.

"Alastair! Is the meal ready?" Lord Addington asked his butler.

"Yes, my lord," the butler answered.

The three entered the dining hall to eat breakfast and Scott started explaining his encounter.

"I went outside to try and find the source of the howling. I followed the noise but saw nothing. Just before leaving, I saw something out of the corner of my eye and I turned back around. To my surprise, it was a ghost. Your typical white almost transparent ghost. When it saw me, it fled. I tried to follow it but it managed to escape by passing through a wall," he told them.

"A ghost? Are you sure?" Lord Addington asked the detective.

"Positive."

"Well this is quite unusual. I wonder why a ghost is haunting us."

"I will continue my search and find out for you, my lord."

"Yes, of course."

They finished breakfast and Scott resumed his investigation.
