Epilogue
One week later,
Lord Addington was still feeling slightly weak but well enough to return. Because of his recovery, the sluagh dematerialized. When his lordship arrived, he was greeted by his butler, his wife, and Detective Stone.
"My lord," said Alastair. "You must rest. Retreat to your chambers, I will prepare lunch."
"Thank you, Alastair," he replied. "But first, tell me what happened with the sluagh."
"I warded it off with an iron knife from the kitchen and kept it in a corner. But it passed through the wall. Luckily, your wife had thought of this and as waiting with a frying pan. Later, Alastair came back with the news that you would feel better in a week. The sluagh disappeared after that," the detective recounted.
"Well done. Alastair, get Detective Stone's payment," said Lord Addington. The butler left and came back a few minutes later with an envelope.
"Here you go," he told Scott.
"Thank you," the detective answered. After wishing them well, Scott Stone returned to his home. Another successful case! And this one confirmed his suspicions about the supernatural.
That night, he wrote a short letter to Lord Addington.
My lord,
I am glad I managed to get rid of that sluagh and wish you a rapid recovery. Thank you for the generous payment, I hope you will not have any more troublesome spirits bothering you. But, if you need me, I would be honored to work for you again.
Sincerely,
Detective S. Stone
A few days later, he received a reply.
Detective Stone,
Thank you for saving me from that dreadful sluagh. But, I must inform you that we will be leaving Mystery Castle soon. We intend to move to a different castle, hopefully one free of ghosts. It is not too far from here so, if I do need you, I will send a letter.
Sincerely,
Lord A. Addington
And he did. Detective Stone solved quite a few more cases for Lord Addington. But that's a story for another time.
