Chapter Four - They of the Prophecy
Moon's Claw was with Flora, who said the kits were going to be born the same day as the dragonet's eggs would hatch. Lavender, of course, was excited to see his unborn kits, the kits of the prophecy that Azure Star had foretold. The eggs had warbled the past few days, Rainlight had commented to Flora, who mentioned this fact to Moon's Claw. The white-and-black she-cat herself felt the kits in her, squirming. They are coming soon, she thought.
Flora looked back at Moon's Claw. The look in the life dragon's eyes, along with the brief glance she gave Moon's Claw's one, black wing, once more showed the want Flora had to make the one black wing two, working wings. Even when I've outgrown the want to fly, and the desperation and depression that came with it.
"What do you think my kits will hold in their in their potential powers, Flora? Both Lav and I were skipped in our generation, mine being elements, his being the Ancient abilities." Moon's Claw glanced at her silver shining claws, then her lone, black wing. Then she murmured, "I just hope they don't bear any disadvantages as I do."
"Their powers are not for me to know, but I am certain they will not have a lone wing or ever-shining claws," Flora assured, her voice smooth. Their walk lead them to the Immortal Oak, where Lavender was waiting, his fur purple instead of the normal blue-green-purple. Once his leaf-green eyes fell on his mate, he bounded over swiftly with an air of mixed excitement and worry.
"Moon," the purple cat meowed, "How- how are they?"
"Peace, Lavender," Flora soothed before Moon's Claw could answer. "They will be fine. I sense they are--and will be--strong. They were the best choice for Azure Star's prophecy, though what powers or abilities your three will hold, Moon's Claw and Lavender, is unknown to me." Flora halted outside the nursery, even though Moon's Claw refused to make her nest there, even though he belly is swollen with her kits.
"Wait, there are three kits that I will have to bear?" Moon's Claw asked, worried. "Why have you never told me of this?!" She turned her icy and purple eyes toward Flora. The different colors seems to be opposing, purple with white, icy with black. They bore into Flora's deep pink ones.
Flora never flinched, she just calmly blinked and replied, "I thought you knew. That three dragon eggs are chosen; you bear the rest."
"Azure's prophecy only called for traits and characteristics! Nothing about what they would be was said! I thought I had one kit, or maybe two, would be mine to bear!" Moon's Claw paced, her silver claws ripping into the ground as she paced.
"Moon," Lavender said softly ass he padded over to her, "we will have three kits! That is a blessing, not a curse. Isn't it wonderful?"
When she stopped pacing, Moon's Claws thought a moment. After a pause of silence, she nodded. "I guess so. I'm just not looking forward to the pain, Lav..." She trailed off into a sigh.
Lavender nudged his mate affectionately, entwining his long tail with hers. "You will be okay, Moon. I'll be right next to you when they come." He licked her head.
Moon's Claw started purring softly, then faced Flora, her eyes hardened and determined. "When will they come, Flora? Do you know?"
With a ruffle of her leaf- and petal-like scales, Flora relaxed into a comfortable position. "A few days. A week, at most. The three eggs show about the same time of hatching. Rainlight and I are watching them closely, and since one of the eggs is her own dragonet, she is best suited to care for the three dragonets when they hatch."
The black-and-white she-cat nodded. "Indeed. Speaking of which, has she convinced Dark Wings that his dragonet is the 'one of amethyst,' yet?"
Flora sighed--the first sign of anything but calm from her. "Enough to where he leaves Rainlight alone about the subject, but he argues with Azure Star every once in a while."
"What of Sanguine and Myrkr? Has Azure made any connection with either of them?" Lavender asked, slight worry in his voice. Moon's Claw knew first-paw Myrkr can be rash. If no connection or report has been made since they left...
A soft voice spoke behind them. "Lavender, you can ask me yourself." When Moon's Claw, Lavender, and Flora turned around, they saw the mythic cat, her periwinkle fur rippling as she hovered in the air, her iridescent crystal ball next to her. The filtered light shown on her fur and wings. "To answer your question, Lavender, no, I'm afraid that Myrkr and Sanguine haven't been able to contact me. Myrkr tried twice, but she was...intercepted."
Flora looked troubled, and her scales started making her look like a hibiscus bush. "What do you mean, 'intercepted'? Do you know who intercepted her?"
Azure Star landed and, hesitantly, nodded. "Yes," she breathed, almost too softly to be heard. "Someone I had hoped to never come face-to-face with again."
"Who?" Lavender and Moon's Claw spoke at once. Flora waited patiently.
Azure Star shook her head. "This someone has contacted Dark Wings. Tonight, we will go to the Immortal Land Isle and met with them. This someone has decided to bring a friend, as Dark Wings is bringing me." The mythic cat gazed into the distorted sky. "Dusk and then twilight is approaching. I must speak with the Arch-Dragon. Farewell, Flora, Lavender, and Moon's Claw." Azure Star spread her wings and flew to the High Arch to speak with Dark Wings.

In the next few days, Moon's Claw felt her unborn kits pound against her insides. It had happened before, less frequent and less painful, but it still happened before. Flora finally convinced Moon's Claw to move into the nursery. Even though the white-and-black cat had initially refused, she wanted her kits to be born safely. Another pang if pain went through Moon's Claw and she let out a soft hiss, though she kept pace with Flora.
"The pains again, Moon's Claw?" she asked.
Moon's Claw sighed. "Yes. They're getting worse. Do you know when the eggs will hatch?" Do you know when my kits will come?
The life dragon hesitated. "Today or tomorrow," came the answer, at last. "Rainlight is in the nursery now, keeping the eggs warm."
There was a silence as they approached the nursery. Moon's Claw broke it. "So, my kits will be here soon, and the prophecy will start. Either the Revak Feykro will continue or will be destroyed." Flora nodded.
When Moon's Claw was comfortable in her nest, the pangs started again. Rainlight was in a nest near the she-cat and noticed her flinching. "It gets easier," the crystal dragon said.
Flora tilted her head, then left without another word. The pain Moon's Claw felt was subsiding somewhat before Flora returned with Lavender. "Rainlight, how are the eggs?" Flora's voice was strange, not at all soft like it usually was.
Rainlight's diamond-tinted blue eyes glowed with pride. "They are warbling more and more." Even as she spoke, the emerald-and-blue water dragon egg warbled violently. "Just as the water dragonet just did."
The life dragon nodded and left quickly. When she returned, the purple-furred form of Lavender was on Flora's tail, nearly litterally. He carried a stick in his jaws, and he padded over to his mate.
"Moon," he said softly, placing the stick within easy reach and curling up next to Moon's Claw's back. "What do you think?"
Another jerk came from the pregnant she-cat, though she kept the pain quiet. "I think," Moon's Claw murmured, "we will have our kits soon, and Rainlight will have a few dragonets to watch."
Flora padded softly over to the dragon eggs, placing her hand- or paw-like claw on each one, holding it there for a few seconds each. "They will hatch today, and the kits will be born like-wise." Moon's Claw jerked from the pain again. Lavender reached out with his paw to move the stick closer to his mate. She grabbed it in her jaws, and squinted her eyes closed. A low growl emanated from her throat. Flora moved away from the twitching dragon eggs to Moon's Claw, who was dimly aware of everything but the pain, even Lavender's soft and soothing words didn't make it past.
"Flora," the white-and-black cat growled, opening her icy and purple eyes, looking at the dragon, "help me!!" Another pang made her bite the stick, her fangs sinking into the wood and making dents. Rainlight exclaimed something, but words were not making it past the pain. She felt Flora place a hand-like talon on her belly, and Lavender moved a small distance away to give Flora room. He kept his gaze on Moon's Claw, and she could barely feel it.
As it seemed she would explode with pain, she felt one of the kits enter the world. She saw Lavender reach over and grab the kit by its scruff. It's fur was purely black as night, like one half of her own fur. Another jolt of pain shot through her.
"Hold on, Moon's Claw," Flora's gentle voice broke through the brief gap in pain, "they will come quickly."
The next kit who came out seemed to have wings, and it's fur was pure white. Finally, a tiny, little purple-furred kit came out. "They look like us, Moon," Lavender purred.
When Moon's Claw looked at her kits, Lavender moved them closer to her belly. "The purple one looks like you, Lav," she murmured. "They are beautiful."
Flora looked over where the dragon eggs were. When Moon's Claw turned her gaze to the eggs as well, she gasped in surprise at what she saw. There were three little piles of scales, along with cracked shell pieces. "Rainlight, we have names for the forest dragonet and the water dragonet, but they amethyst dragonet is yours and Dark Wings' to name." She walked over to the forest and water dragonets, and picked them up. "They will be known as Root the forest dragon and Tide the water dragon. Root is named for the Immortal Oaks' great roots, and Tide is named for the indestructible, never-ceasing strength, and freedom of the tides."
The little dragonets squirmed inn Flora's paws as she let them down. They stumbled over each other to Rainlight and the unnamed amethyst dragonet, who was in the crystal dragon's arms.
"They are cute," Moon's Claw said.
"All are females," murmured Flora. "Interesting."
Lavender laid around his daughters, opposite of Moon's Claw. "We should name them, Moon," he urged softly.
Moon's Claws nodded. "We will. I just want to see what they come in time." She licked her kits and slowly fell alseep.

A week later, the kits eyes were open, and the amethyst dragonet was named Gem. Gray smoke came from the black kit, and from the white, winged kit came white frost. The purple kit's ability seemed to be like that of Lavender's easy flexibility and balance. None of the kits have shown the Ancient ability. The black kit often turned to smoke, sort of lining up with the prophecy's "one of smog" line, and the white kit seemed to line up with the "one of ice" line. The "one of snake" is assumed to be the purple kit, but very little pointed that way.
"I think," Moon's Claw started, "the black she-kit should be named Smoke, and the white she-kit should be named Frost."
Lavender nodded, then looked at the last kit. "What about the purple kit?"
"You should name her, Lav."
