Frosted Tree

Jackson Overland

I roll on the sofa. "How hard is it to press send?" I groan.

"What did you do?" James asks and I look at him and leap onto his legs and tug on it.

"... Demon!" James yells in panic and he attempts to kick me away.

"I need your guidance James! I shouldn't of acted without your confirmation." I yell and sob on his legs without actually shedding tears.

"Leave this house! Your possessed! I need to protect my hot body!" James yells in absolute panic and kicks under my chin and I am flown back to my sofa.

James dashes.

"WAIT!" I shout.

James dashes back to in front of me with a cross with and a small book.
"May the power of holiness condemn you!" James yells.

"Put that down!" I yell at him.

"Why should I?! You've never acted like that in your whole life like that." James says freaking out.

"It's because of Elsa! It's her fault. She's made me go all desperate it's made me all weird." I say returning to my normal self. James drops the cross and the book.

"Plus that's not how you properly exorcise. It's a Latin chant." I mutter, I watched the Conjuring.

"I don't know 'The Fallen Angel' was my only guide." James says and puts down the book too.

"... Anyway what advice do you seek?" James asks, acting like an old guy.

"Elsa. I sent her such a big text about how much I'm thankful for her." I tell him.

"She probably didn't see your text." He simply answers.

...

"Fool. Do you think Elsa wouldn't respond?" James asks.

... I overreacted. That's very rare.

"Unless..." I mutter to myself, "She doesn't want to text."

"Hey what dinner foods have you planned?" James asks.

... "... Shit." I say.

James gasps, "How could you?! Presents and food is what makes Christmas! We can't have half a Christmas!" He complains.

"You can go to KFC and buy food. Will you be happy?!" I yell back.

"Ugh," James sighs and lies back on the couch, "Christmas is tiring without them."

I stand up, "Christmas is never going to be the same, let's accept that. But I'm not going to spend my Christmas grieving, rather appreciate what we have." I say and I'm suddenly interrupted by a knocking on the door.

I open the door and Elsa... Elsa is here.

"Wow Elsa! Did you change your mind?!" James yells in joy.

Elsa simply nods and James runs next to me.

"Wait Elsa... Why do you have luggage?" James asks and I look below and see her small suitcase and I jump up.

"Y-your staying here?!" I exclaim.

Elsa weakly laughs, "I'll explain everything."

Elsa comes in and places her suitcase near the kitchen and we all sit down on the sofa.

"Well my family and I were about to leave because our Christmas present is a ski trip. Anyway I got the text from Jack and I don't know... Felt happy. Then I impulsively came here." Elsa explains.

My cheeks flush with red and I look away from her, and apologize, "Sorry."

James laughs, "But why Elsa? The ski trip would've been way better."

"I disagree!" She exclaims, "An actual Christmas with you would've been way more fun!" Elsa brightly smiles.

I'm happy I am able to see that smile, I hope it never fades away.

"So Elsa what's my present?" James asks.

"Oh y-yeah..." Elsa giggles nervously.

"James please enough with the presents." I tell him.

"Ah geez..." James sighs.

Elsa Arendelle

I feel bad for leaving my family, but I still feel like that I am with family. These guys, they've helped me a lot, they helped me realize my true feelings.

I look out the window and it's pouring with snowflakes, ah, Winter is so beautiful.

Jackson stands next to me.

"Elsa, you remind me of Winter." Jackson says and I look up at him.

I wryly laugh, "How?"

"You use too I mean. You were cold but beautiful." Jackson says.

"Highschool... Why were you so persistent with me then?" I ask him.

"I could tell that you only put up the whole 'notorious' thing to protect yourself, so did I but I wasn't notorious." He says.

"Hmm yeah..." I mutter to myself then speak up, "I never told you this but someone hurt my sister Anna, like badly when she was like 13. What they did was unforgivable."

"What did they do?" Jackson asks.

"Anna was bullied by another girl. That other girl happened to be my father's work colleague, that girl always claimed that the Arendelle's give her dad a hard time. So she put it out on Anna. I witnessed her and her friends cutting Anna's hair off, just as I confronted them they attempted to throw the scissors at me but I narrowly dodged it. I acted impulsively, I grabbed the girl by the collar and pushed her against the tree with such force. Her friends ran away scared and our neighbors started gathering around us. I looked around and they all looked at me with such fear I let go of the girl and she was quick to run away. News spread and everyone started treating me like a some sort of monster. But nobody once thought of messing with me or my sister, so I kept being this delinquent everyone thought I was. Then it started to become natural to me." I explain, looking down...

"Why didn't you tell me this sooner?!" Jackson exclaims.

"The past is in the past." I respond, "It's irrelevant to now."

He grabs my hand and gives me a concerning look, "Even if it is irrelevant, I should know about your past." He says.

I warmly smile and say, "It's because I want you to love me for who I am, and I don't want my past to corrupt it."

"Are you an idiot?! I love you for who you are I don't care about your past." He says.

I giggle and he responds with that same warm smile.

"Guys! Come on let's go to the tree!" James calls us.

We gather around the tree.

"I want my present!" James nags.

Jackson rolls his eyes and chucks his gift over to him.

"I hope it's cool." James jumps in joy.

James unwraps the gift wrap and it unveils a sunglass case and it reveals reflective old school classy sunglasses. James remains speechless and he finds a letter left behind in the wrapping. He grabs it and opens it, he reads it and takes an awfully long pose. I can see his eyes getting teary and he drops the letter while his tears slowly run down his face.
The loosens the grip on the letter and it slides out his hand, I look at Jackson and he gives off a sincere smile.

I take a look at this letter and it had written with 7 year old handwriting: Dear Jamesy, I miss you. When are you coming home? Why can't you go to a school like Jacky? Happy Birthday brother! Come home soon! I love you ♥

Underneath the writing it had a drawing of their family.
This truly has touched my heart.

"Sophie was saving that when you came home from boarding school, but she forgot about it." Jackson explains.

"Don't look at me! You should have gave that to me in private!" James sobs covering his eyes, "I don't need any other presents so don't sweat Elsa."

I respond with a smile.

"Elsa I know you didn't bring a gift so it's okay." Jackson says to me.

"Yeah ... I came a bit unprepared." I stammer.

"I'm saving your gift to way in the night." He tells me then winks.

11:00 pm. I am looking out the window, the snowflakes fell slowly, fading into the dark night sky. But soon the wind hit harshly and it looked like a snow storm was brewing.

Jackson joins me and looks out, "It's almost like the weather is telling us something." Then he chuckles and I look at him and smile.

"Elsa, here." Jackson says and hands me a gift. It was all wrapped, badly but I could see the effort. I chuckle at his masterpiece.

My phone starts ringing and I answer it.

"Elsa!" ... it's Anna.

"What's wrong?!" I panic.

I could here a lot of chatter in the background and I can hear Anna crying, "It's our house! I-It's on fire!"

I drop the present and my eyes widen, I didn't say anything and I just ran. Everything else in my head was mute.
