The Beginning

Every angel in heaven knew about soulmates. God was so unsure about it he asked all of his angels. Of course they all thought it was a good idea. They think all his ideas are good. They didn't expect God to give them soulmates. They were all family, they didn't need someone to be with forever because they had each other and they had God.

For a long time they didn't have soulmates. They just watched different creatures fall in love. Then God got bored.

He created an Archangel. An angel powerful enough to protect the world he created while he worked on other things.

After many complaints of fatigue from the overworked Archangel, who had been keeping many of God's "failed tests" at bay, God created another Archangel. This time, he decided to give them names. The oldest would be named Michael, while the younger was named Lucifer.

God sent the two into the world, letting Lucifer figure it out just as Michael had. Lucifer returned one day asking about a doe and a deer he had seen that seemed to care about each other greatly. God told him about soulmates and how angels didn't have them and Lucifer seemed to falter. He did not understand why God didn't want the angels to be happy.

Lucifer asked God for more brothers, as Michael had abandoned him for enjoying the wildlife when he should've been working. For Michael's sake, we'll assume that's when Lucifer began disliking his older brother.

When God made Raphael, he didn't expect the Archangel to do everything he was told and nothing else. He would have to work on that later. He wanted his Angels to have some sense of free will. He needed them to know that everything happens for a reason, but they're still able to have some time to themselves.

While all of this was happening, God was experimenting a bit. Everything was the same thing over again. God wanted something different. He wanted evolution.

Around the time he created evolution, he also created two more Angels. One of them was a normal Angel named Balthazar. The other was an Archangel named Gabriel.

After a snarky remark about the room he appeared in from Gabriel, God decided to keep this one. He let him mingle with his brothers, but when Michael and Raphael showed their disdain for Gabriel's sense of humor, God decided to limit their visitings. Lucifer seemed to learn from Gabriel, though his humor was more cynical.

When God was about done making Angels, he decided to make one different than the rest. He wanted one who could be both a follower and a leader. He wanted one who would choose the right side and would make sure to put his world first every time. He wanted one to have a soul mate. If it worked in his favor, then God would make more Angels have soulmates. There wouldn't be much time thought into the soulmate. God already had a vague idea of who this new Angel's soulmate would be. God just needed a name.

The newly made Castiel was one of wonders. He only met God once, after 100 years of existing. After that God had finally decided Gabriel's role in heaven. Gabriel was to watch over Castiel. Gabriel entrusted Balthazar's help in watching the little one.

Young Castiel wanted to meet everyone he could and he always wanted to fly. Gabriel, who hadn't learned how to fly until Lucifer taught him on his 1,825th creationday, wasn't so keen on the idea of Castiel flying so soon. Unfortunately, Balthazar was more than excited to go to earth and throw Castiel off a tree to teach him how to fly. Gabriel learned very quickly that normal Angels do not get the special treatment of an elder letting them ride on their back while flying.

Castiel was only in toddler stage when he watched a fish climb out of the sea and his older brother Gabriel said "Don't step on that fish Castiel. Very big plans for that fish."

Being 623 years old, Castiel was able to actually see his wings for the first time. The feathers were black but had a red tint. He had seen Balthazar's wings all the time and they were just black. He asked to see Gabriel's, trying to find out if all Angel's wings were different. When Gabriel showed him his black and green tinted wings, Castiel asked why Balthazar's wings were just black.

God was asked many questions by the three after that. Mainly just Castiel babbling and Gabriel and Balthazar translating as best they could. God explained that the tint was exclusive to only those two. The tint was the mark of their soulmate. Gabriel and Castiel were the only two angels with soulmates.

God admitted that after Lucifer had asked why Angels didn't have soulmates, he pondered it for a long time. He knew he wanted four Archangels so he could experiment with one of them, but when Raphael had appeared with no intention of making any relationships, God knew he'd have to give the last one a soulmate. Which worked out seeming as Gabriel acted like a bear cub that was way overexcited for everything. He'd need a patient soul to deal with the youngest brother.

Satisfied with the answer, Castiel left God to his devices for a long time. Castiel was 6,253 years old when he next saw God.

Humans were God's latest invention and God asked Castiel to protect the humans from any "failed tests" that God had locked away who may escape.

Castiel stayed on earth for many years. He missed heaven's fight against Lucifer. He wasn't there when Lucifer had made Hell. He was only called back to heaven to be told of the news after the big fight. He was not very happy when he realized all the Angels he communicated with while on Earth had been killed early on, and that's why he never heard of the fight.

After that fight, he served Heaven alone. He fought against all of Lucifer's followers, even though something in his being told him to stay out of it. Something in him knew that neither side was correct. Lucifer shouldn't have been forced to love humans more than God or any other creature Lucifer had grown to be fond of. But he also should have given them a chance.

Even Castiel wasn't fond of humans. They were creating. Making things that had never even been thought of it was all so different and unnatural.

After the war between Heaven's armies and Lucifer's followers had ended, Castiel returned to earth. He watched as humans became judgeful. They no longer just want to exist. Now they want power. They're impatient and greedy. Castiel grew less fond of them.

He would still watch over them, as they were part of God's creation. Possibly his worst creation but it's his none the less. With heaven back in order and hell closed off to angels, Castiel decided to just watch humans evolve.

He watched in peace until word got to him that "God's child" had been born. Castiel didn't trust the humans so he went to Gabriel. Gabriel grabbed Balthazar and the three went to God once again with many questions. God explained that he had a bit of time off so he went to visit the humans to see how they'd evolved without his influence. He said that he'd got carried away and created a human that could hear angels through a woman. Which lead to people believing it was his son.

With newfound knowledge that humans tend to jump to conclusions, Castiel decided to watch humans from heaven from then on.

Of all his years of just watching, Castiel had never once questioned the soulmate thing. When humans started to look different than any other animal, Castiel pondered what their future would be. He assumed it would be better than it was.

Then God's sister arrived. She opened the world that God's failed tests resided, and Castiel knew that he would need a lot more Angels protecting the earth. Very few Angels helped Castiel, all the rest fighting Amara with God.

By the time Castiel and his segment had sealed most of the bad creatures back in the other world, the war between God and Amara had been settled. God won. Castiel was glad to hear that, but he had much more work to complete before he could head home.

He never got the chance though, because God had called him to a meeting. When Castiel arrived he saw the remaining Archangels and Balthazar. At the time he didn't understand why he and Balthazar had been called. They were normal Angels.

God started by silencing Michael and Raphael's protests upon Castiel and Balthazar's appearances. He claimed that he was going away, and would not be back until there was peace in Heaven and on Earth.

Raphael fought this immediately. Since without God there to command him he would be useless to Heaven's defenses.

Michael knew better than to fight back, though he did express discomfort at the idea.

Gabriel and Balthazar looked ready to run, not having any plans to stick around once Heaven became aware of God's disappearance.

Castiel was conflicted. The sensible part of him trusted God and his choices. But the other part of him, the family part of him, wanted to beg God to stay. Even though Gabriel and Balthazar had been his father figures for as long as he remembers, God is still his father. He doesn't see much of God, but knowing that he could always gave him a sense of peace.

God trusted Castiel to make the right choice. After all, that's how he was designed. God put a lot of pressure on Castiel just by asking what his thoughts were. Castiel knew if he made the wrong decision then his older brothers would definitely have his head. But he was leaning more towards God leaving. It wasn't his first choice, but God knew what he was doing. Surely he would make the right choice.

He voiced that God should leave if he felt it was time. God ended up dismissing the meeting with the plan to leave, and Castiel became an outsider to his brothers.

Gabriel and Balthazar left, begging Castiel to go with. Castiel chose to stay in heaven rallying troops to kill all of what man deemed to be monsters.

When he made it to earth, he had a run in with someone who called themself a hunter. Castiel watched him hunt the monsters and for someone in the 1870's he was pretty good at the job.

Castiel spent one hundred years protecting humans from any monster he came across. Though he wasn't there in time for a mother who claimed that angels were watching over them. He didn't make it in time to stop the fire that started the end of his beginning.
