14 - You Meet Again
You enter a spacious room which had a living room on one side, a large work station and a dining area. There's a clothes rack where a variety of jackets, hoodies, shirts and pants hang, Yoongi's no doubt. Three people looks up at you as you enter with David. You got introduced to Yoongi's make-up/hair stylist, his personal stylist and a company staff. They greeted you politely before they quietly went back to work.
"You can stay here so that you can read your job scope and some FYI's about what is expected during the press conference, his guest appearances and even conversation with other people. The bottom line is, you need to be at his side when there are non Korean speakers around. There are some videos that you can also browse of his previous interviews. Have you listened to any of his songs?" David asks you all of a sudden you were put on the spot. When you stammered for an answer, he laughs. "That's alright. I suggest that you do that too, because it'll help you know more about what people would be asking or would be talking about." His phone rings and he signals that he'll be back.
You take out a folder that had everything David mentioned about. Stay at his side, it's easier said than done for you because of your past. But this is business and nothing else, you remind yourself again for the nth time. You stand up and approached the three people working on one side of the work area. "Excuse me, is it ok if I work here?" You ask them as you pointed to the empty space next to them. All of them nodded with a smile, the lady who got introduced to you as Yoongi's stylist spoke.
"Go ahead and use it." She paused before continuing. "You better get used to us because we'll see each other a lot during the tour. Maybe you can help us with the translation too. It's hard to communicate what we want to say to others."
"Of course, that will not be a problem at all. By the way, you can just call me Y/N." You tell her.
They gave out their names too. The stylist's name is Kyoung-Mi, the make up artist is Hyeri and the staff is Yeo-Jin.
"You're pretty." Hyeri tells you and you smile and thank her. "Are you wearing contacts?" She asks.
You shake your head with a small smile on your lips. "No, these are my natural eye color."
The three of them stare at you. "Whoa, that's so cool."
You learn while chatting with them that they've been working with Yoongi since he started.
"What is he like? I mean Agust D, is it hard to work with him?" You ask. You knew him when he was just starting, and you didn't exactly work together that's why you are asking. You hold back in revealing that you both used to know each other.
The three women shook their head. "No, not really. He makes it clear what he wants and as long you do it as he's instructed you, then there's no problem. I mean even if you make a mistake, he'll point out your error but will not give you a hard time because of it."
You nod your head, but honestly, you were hoping to find out more about him. You wonder if he's changed at all. Everything surrounding him has changed. He is no longer that guy who performs in a small basement club, but an international celebrity and he probably lives in some posh house or condo now. You're still upset with him for hurting you. The pain, is no longer there, just scars that reminds you of what you've been through.
Ok, none of those thoughts, you tell yourself. This is business so none of that personal stuff that you've buried in your memory chest. You began reading the detailed summary of your job assignment. Translation during press conferences, interviews, events and private meetings. You know Yoongi understood English before, eight years have passed since then, so he should've developed the skills in speaking too. But, you can be wrong. What do you know anyway? Nothing, because in the eight years in your life, even you have changed.
You've finished reading everything before you move on towards his press conference videos. You noticed something immediately. He always had a male interpreter so why change now? You wonder. He asked for you specifically, so perhaps he wanted to flaunt in your face that he made it big? You're just assuming of course, which is not a good thing to do. You feel guilty for even having those thoughts, because the Yoongi you knew back then will never be like that.
*************************************************
You lost count on the number of concerts and music videos of Yoongi you've watched. You found entertained by them, you just kept on clicking for the next one. He is so amazing to watch, you can't help chuckle to yourself when you saw him dancing. You didn't know he can dance and he can do it really well. You can feel the emotions in each of his songs. He must've really put his entire heart and soul to it.
You also have discovered that Hoseok and Namjoon are just as big as Yoongi now. You don't know why they're no longer together as a group, but you know that the songs you've heard them perform at the club years back, are now songs they have collabed together. All their songs smashed records which is why they were labelled as "The Triple Threat".
"Y/N, let's go." Hyeri is standing in front of you together with the two girls.
You take the ear buds you're wearing as you check the time, it's almost twelve noon. Too early to leave for the press con.
"Where are we going?" You ask as you hurriedly packed your things back into your work bag.
"Leave your things here, except maybe your purse. We're having lunch." Yeo-Jin tells you.
You nod your head and tried to catch after the pace of the three ladies. "Oh great, I am familiar with the restaurants around here. Let me know what you want to have and maybe there's one around here."
Hyeri laughs as she presses the elevator button. "We're going to the hotel restaurant. Yoongi wants everyone to join, including you."
"Me?" You ask, your eyes opening wide in surprise. They tell you that you are part of the team now so you're joining them. You nod as you follow the girls inside the elevator. On your way here, you're thinking of how you should respond to meeting Yoongi again. You ended up thinking of greeting him the way you normally would with other artists, business like and formal.
The elevator stops at the mezzanine and you fall back as the others went ahead. Kyoung-Mi stops when she noticed you moving sluggishly. She waits for you with a smile. "Worried about the other staff? They're nice. Well, even if some of them are not, just ignore them."
The staff is the least of your worries, but you straightened your back and held your chin up as you enter the restaurant. The place is not full, except for the area where the concert entourage were. You notice Yoongi's blond hair immediately, you didn't expect him to be here right away. Most celebrities you've worked with always comes in last, making a big grand entrance. Apparently, that's not him.
You drop your eyes to the floor not daring to meet anyone's eye, specially Yoongi's.
"Y/N." Someone whispers and you turn to see your sister next to you. You can't help but give a deep sigh of relief. She leans against you and casually takes your hand squeezing it. "You're good right?"
You nod your head as you give her a smile. "Thank you but what are you doing here?" You ask.
"That manager of his called me thirty minutes ago to let me know they need twenty seats reserved here. They're too punctual, coming here ten minutes earlier." She says, the frustration in her voice is very obvious. " That included Yoongi. So why are you late?"
You shrug "I didn't know there's going to be a lunch in the first place. I wasn't informed."
You look up and noticed people were watching you and your sister in awe. "Let's talk later." You tell her as you hurried to catch up with the three ladies while your sister exits the restaurant.
"You have a twin? Wow, you two look so much alike." Kyoung-Mi exclaims. You smile in reply as you stop at the table where the girls went. The table is full.
"Miss Park." David calls you.
You turn though you already have a hunch on what he is about to say. When he motioned you to come and take the empty seat at their table, you confirmed your hunches being true. You give a tight smile as you made your way towards them. This is so unconventional. Interpreters never sits with the artist for meals except when you have to translate. You avoid looking at Yoongi's direction.
"Everyone, this the interpreter who will be assisting us on our U.S tour. Miss Park Y/N." David says as soon as you arrive. He then starts introducing the people around the table. You bowed before shaking their hands. "Finally, this is Agust D, Min Yoongi." He says.
You turn to Yoongi and you try to meet his eyes, but he isn't looking at you. Instead, he's staring at your extended hand. No, he's looking at the ring you're wearing on your ring finger to be precise.
