Olivia's POV:
"Mom!" I yell.
"It's not fair. Why do I have to go to camp?" My mom just told me that I should get ready, I'm leaving for a summer camp in Oklahoma tomorrow with my twin brother, Liam. He wanted to go, I didn't.
"Because, Olivia. That way your brother'll know someone there. And anyways, it's not like you had any big plans for the summer anyways, right?" She asks. I sigh.
"Yeah, I did. I was gonna get a job and hang out with my friends and stuff," I say, twirling my shoulder length strawberry blonde hair around my fingers. This was supposed to be a great summer, I'm finally 14, old enough to get a job, and go shopping every weekend with money. Now my mom's just gonna take that away from me?
"I'm sorry, Olivia, but my decision is final. You're going. I already paid, anyways," She says with a sigh. I'm not mad, just annoyed.
"This is going to be the worst summer ever," I say, walking into my room to go pack. I don't exactly have the clothes for sleep away camp, I mostly wear dresses. If I'm going to be outside in the... nature, I can't really be wearing dresses and skirts all the time. Angrily, I throw a few pairs of skirts and a couple t-shirts into a suitcase. Then, I grab it and pull it down the stairs.
"I'm all packed!" I yell, dropping the suitcase in front of the door. My mom comes in and opens it.
"Oh, Olivia," She breathes.
"All of your pretty dresses? You can't take those to a summer camp!" She exclaims.
"Well, it's all I have," I say. Later, she takes me shopping for the clothes I'm going to wear for the next three months. I practically bought a new wardrobe, and I can't even imagine how much it cost. We have money, but certainly not enough for four people to live on. We're in the middle class, but this trip probably brought us pretty low, down to the ground on cash.
For tomorrow, I lay out a a white tank top and a pair of pink shorts, with black tights to go under it and leave it on my dresser.
The next morning, I wake up at 6:00 in the morning, ready for the day. And by "the day," I mean the two and a half hour drive from Oklahoma City, to Windrixville, which is where the camp in Oklahoma is located. I am so not looking foreword to that. I can do it, though. I'll be fine.
Throwing on my shorts, I sit down on my bed for a minute, and look around my room. It's filled with posters of my favorite actress, Julie Andrews in her new movie "The Sound of Music," and a couple others from my all time favorite movie, "Gone With The Wind". I've grown so accustomed to having my posters there, even these, which have only been here for a few months now, that I'm really going to miss them. Even the older ones like The Beatles and "Breakfast at Tiffany's", I was going to miss having a wall covered with them. For the next three months I'm going to be living in a whole different world, one that I can't call home. One that won't be decorated the way I like it, and maybe even at all.
"Olivia, Liam, get down here!" My mom calls from downstairs at around 8 in the morning. I grab a pair of flip flops, my converse and other sneakers are already packed, and run to the door.
"Is the bus here yet?" I ask her. She shakes her head.
"Not yet, honey, but I wanted to start saying goodbye now," She says. I nod.
"Well... Bye mom." She laughs.
"Bye, Olivia. I love you, sweetie," She says, giving me a hug.
"Love you too." I kiss her cheek.
"Where's Dad?" I ask her.
"He had to go to work early, but he says to have fun. He says he loves you and he and I will definitely be there for parents day," She tells me.
"Oh. Okay," I say. I wishI got to say goodbye to him. Suddenly, a bright yellow bus filled with kids pulls up in front of our house.
"Well, we better get going Liam," I say, opening the front door.
"Wait," Our mom says. We both turn around, and she embraces the two of us together.
"Have fun, kids!" She says, kissing both of our cheeks. Liam nods, and runs onto the bus, rolling his suitcase behind him. I give my mom one more hug before walking away, holding my suitcase.
"Bye mom," I say, before getting on the bus myself.
I walk up the steps, and my nose is immediately overwhelmed by the stench of sweat and children. Suddenly, I feel shy. There are people everywhere of every age from what looks like 5 year olds, the Kindergarteners, all the way up to high schoolers.
I start to walk to the back of the bus to see if I could find an empty seat, when a girl puts her hand out.
"Hey. My name is Claire Livingston. Why don't you sit with me?" She asks, scooting in, closer to the window.
"Okay..." I whisper. I don't like having the outside seat, I like being able to look out the window. I sit in the window seat every morning on the way to school, and every afternoon on the way home. It may not seem like a big deal, but only time I've ever really given it up was when my friend Katy was sick and wanted to rest her head on it. But even then, I got the middle seat, where I was able to see out the window, and our other friend Lexi sat on the outside.
"So what's your name?" Claire asks me.
"Olivia," I respond, quietly. I'm not shy, but to be able to talk to someone I have to really be comfortable with them. I didn't think I was yet, until I saw him. The boy my brother was sitting next to. Bleach blonde hair, greenish grey eyes, the cutest smile I've ever seen.
"It's nice to meet you, Olivia," She says, putting her hand out.
"You too, Claire. Hey, do you know that boy over there?" I ask, pointing to the one next to Liam.
"No, I don't recognize either of them, and I've been coming to this camp since I was six years old. I'm 14, turning 15 soon, if you were wondering," She says. Very friendly...
"Oh. Well, the one on the outside is my twin brother Liam. This is our first year. I'm talking about the one on the inside," I explain. She smiles.
"Well, he's cute, but I think he's new. He hasn't talked to anyone yet, and your brother's lucky, Olivia. That boy hasn't moved his suitcase for the entire ride. And he's been here for at least two hours," She tells me.
"Oh. He seems pretty... mysterious," I tell her. She nods.
"Well then, I guess we'll just have to find out more about him," She says. I nod, smiling at my new friend.
"I guess so."
A/N: Hello, readers. I'm sorry for not updating in so long, I have absolutely no excuse. But here I made, back and ready to update regularly. I know this chapter isn't the most interesting, but this was more of a "getting to know the characters".
Keep reading, because Pony and Olivia (who is, by the way, based on my best friend. Liam is actually her brother, too, and that thing about the window seat is true. She is very protective over it and one of the only times I've ever seen her give it up was on a field trip to Canobie Lake Park. I had a really bad cold, so she let me sit there and sleep.) are going to meet in the next chapter!
What do you think he'll think of her? Let me know! -Katy💕
