F O U R
Olivia's POV:
The bus ride was torture, but after who knows how long, we made it to the camp.
"Okay, everyone. Once you get off the bus, go find a counselor, give them your name and age, and they'll tell you where you're bunking!" The bus driver says into the loudspeaker.
"Well, I have to go find a few friends of mine, so guess this is goodbye for now, Olivia. I hope we're in the same bunk!" Claire says, jumping over the seat and I and running off of the bus.
"Okay... Bye, Claire... I guess?" I say, looking in front of me to where she ran off. Slowly, the rest of us pile off, going to find a counselor, as directed. There are about 10 of them out there, and about 300 of us, just from this bus, and others coming from tons of different busses, and I watch lines form in front of me. I recognize no one, other than Liam and that boy that he was sitting next to. They're both in different lines, and me, being too shy to go up to the boy, or anyone else that I don't know, I go to stand next to my brother.
"Hey," He says once he sees me.
"Hi," I respond.
"Hey, did you know that guy that I was sitting next to on the bus?" He asks me. My heart skips a beat, why would he ask that? I don't know how to respond, so I shake my head.
"Oh, well he was asking about you when I got on," Liam tells me. My heart skips a beat and my eyes widen a bit in surprise, but I just shrug, trying to play it off like it was nothing.
"That's cool. Why?" I ask him.
"I'm not sure. He was asking if we were neighbors and when I told him that we're siblings, he shut up," Liam says. Well that's weird....
"What's his name?" I question. I try to make it seem as I don't care
"Ponyboy. Weirdest name I've ever heard, like what even is a Ponyboy?" He asks. I almost laugh, it is weird, but it's also interesting. It makes me want to get to know him better.
"Ponyboy... It is strange. But you can't control what your named," I say. Liam just shrugs and turns back to the line. There's one person in front of him. He says his name, get's his bunk assignment, and then it's my brothers turn.
"Liam Sparks, age 14," He says. The counselor smiles at him.
"You're in bunk 14 C, right over there," She says, pointing to the right, where the boys bunks must be located. He nods and walks off.
"Hi sweetie. What's your name?" The counselor asks me with a smile.
"Olivia Sparks. I'm 14," I say quietly.
"Olivia," She mumbles, running a pen down her clipboard.
"Okay, Olivia. You're right over there in bunk 14 A. I'm your counselor, actually. My name is Madelyne. Your junior counselor, Gwendoline, is already in the bunk if you want to go in there and set up your space. I'll be in there in a little bit," She says to me. I nod and start walking off, following a sign that says "girls bunks".
As I stare at the tiny cabins, I have to wonder where that kid- Ponyboy was placed. Liam's room? The other 14 year olds boys bunk? Maybe he isn't even 14. For all I know he could just be a tall 11 year old...
"14 A," I whisper to myself, looking around. Gazing at the cabins, I realize that none of them have numbers on them. I realize that just when a teenage girl walks up in front of me.
"Are you lost?" She asks, rudely. I feel my cheeks reddening, I don't want to admit it, but I kind of am.
"Do you know where bunk 14 A is? I don't know the order of them, this is my first year here," I explain to her. Immediately, her face slightly softens. Like in a way that says "I remember my first day at camp," but also "I know my way around perfectly," at the same time.
"Yeah. Sorry... It's right there, my bunk to. My name is Amelia, by the way. I was the first one here," She brags, pointing the cabin right in front of me.
"I'm Olivia," I say, staring at my bag. I can already tell that I'm not going to be the biggest fan of this girl...
Walking towards the bunk, I push a door open. Instead of being made out of wood, or something like that, it's metal, with a screen instead of a glass window. Looking around, I noticed six sets of wooden bunk beds. How fun, I'm going to have to share with someone I barely know...
"Does it matter what bed I take?" I say aloud to anyone that would answer.
"Olivia!" A girl squeals, wrapping her arms around me. Claire. Well, she's.... friendly.
"Hey," I say with a smile.
"Wanna be my top bunk?" She asks. I shrug, climbing up the ladder to my bed and dropping my suitcase on top of it. I mean, it's not my first choice to be the top bunk -heights- but why not share with her? She seems nice, and it's better than having to be Amelia's bunk mate, I suppose.
I look around the room, all twelve girls are here already, talking to friends, putting sheets on their beds, putting clothes in their dresser drawer. After getting my sheets out of my bag, I carefully try to balance on the ladder while putting my sheets on the bed.
"Okay, girls! Finish what you're doing and sit in a circle!" Someone suddenly yells, making me jump and fall off of the ladder. I land on my butt, and everyone crowds around me.
"Are you okay?" Claire asks, holding a hand out. Gratefully, I take it, laughing.
"I'm fine." But I've always known why I don't like heights. That's why. Getting over it quickly, I do as Gwendoline said and go sit in the circle in the middle of the room.
"Okay, girls. I'm Gwendoline, but you can call me Gwen. While we wait for our other counselor, Madelyne to come in, we're going to play a getting to know you game!" She says, excitedly. We all stare at her, waiting for directions.
"We're going to tell everyone your names and one fact about yourself. I'll start. Like I said, my name is Gwen and I'm a soccer star," She says, brushing her bleach blonde hair behind her ears. We nod and look to the next person in the circle, who has brown eyes and dark, shoulder length curly hair.
"M-my name is Audrey and... I have a pet Bunny named Ruggles," She says.
"I still haven't met Ruggles," Claire mumbles. I smile at her.
"Well, you live two hours away! At least I sent you the pictures of her last year!" Audrey says.
Claire doesn't respond, so we look to the next girl in the group. Amelia. She has freckles and wavy gold-blonde hair, only a bit lighter than mine. She looks like she could be from California, but she's probably from Oklahoma, like the rest of us here.
"Hi everyone! My name is Amelia Clarke, but most of you guys already know me. My fact is that I've been coming to this camp since Kindergarten and I'll be a CIT next year," She says. Everyone nods, and then it's onto the next girl.
"I'm Alana and..." She takes a deep breath, brushing her fingers through her long silky, black hair. "My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months back. I've been here as long as Amelia, and I didn't want to go this year, I wanted to help out my mom at home, but she has to go through some treatments and she doesn't want me to be there for it," She says. Around her, there are tons of wow's, I'm sorry's and frowns. That's so sad...
"I'm so sorry, Alana.... My name is Savannah. I was born in Savannah, Georgia while my parents were on vacation, and my parents liked the city so much that they named me after it," Says a girl with beautiful, wavy hair. It's a sandy color, but mid-length, down to her back, and it suits her perfectly. Self-consciously, I tug at my own hair. My friends say it feels like a Barbie doll's, and it never seems to grow.
"I'm Vaughn," The young looking girl with brown hair sitting next to me says, quietly.
"I'm fourteen, like you guys, but I skipped a grade a few years ago, I'm going to be a Sophomore," She says. I wait a second before introducing myself.
"My name's Olivia. I have a dog named Chloe and a brother in 14 C named Liam," I say. No one has anything to say in response. Sitting next to me is Claire.
"I'm Claire," She says, smiling brightly.
"When I grow up I want to be a fashion designer," She says. That's cool, so do I.
"Cassie... Cass," She says with a wave. She has a short, guy haircut that was obviously dyed, but it looks good, and seems to suit her. It's a dark, jet black that looks pretty cool.
"I have a wonderful half brother, but I don't live with him. His name is Jeff. He's only seven and a half, and he has Downs Syndrome," She says. No response.
"Hey. I'm Zoey," Says a girl with to die for, you can't get that from a bottle blonde hair.
"I have a hole in my heart, and a pacemaker. Two open heart surgeries, too," She says. Another chorus of wow's is the response.
"Hi. My name is Sharon," Says a red-headed girl with surprisingly tanned skin.
"My parents both have brown hair, pale skin and freckles. I look nothing like them, and a lot of people actually think I was adopted. I wasn't... As far as I know," She says.
"Peggy," Another one, this time with short brown hair, says. We all stare at her, waiting for more when she finally says, "I hate my name. I was named after my mom, but she left a few years ago... I hate my name."
"Hi," A stunning Asian girl says. She has shoulder length black hair and beautiful blue eyes.
"My name is Sabrina. People call me Sab, or Bri, or just Sabrina... But please don't call me Brina, because lots of people do that, and I don't really like it..." She says with a laugh.
"So one fact about me. Uh, my parents and I were born in China, and I go there and visit relatives every year," She says. That's cool. I would love to go to China. I love Chinese food, so I bet the food's good there....
"Wow, girls! It's so nice to meet all of you! Now that you've all introduced yourselves, why don't I give you some time to get to know each other," Gwendoline, who's probably only 15 or 16 says. We all nod, and start to get up. I watch girls walk up to each other, talking and hugging, laughing together. It's too bad I don't know anyone here, I would have joined in on the conversation.
Claire walks over to Audrey and Alana, hugging them both. Then, she comes over to me, the two other girls training behind her.
"Olivia, did you find anything else about that boy?" Claire asks. I nod.
"Yeah. His name is Ponyboy, and apparently he was asking about me on the bus," I tell her.
"Really? Why?" She exclaims. I shrug.
"I'm not sure."
"We gotta find more about this guy. Audrey, Alana, you guys wanna help?" Claire asks. The two girls in question look at each other, then nod. I could tell she had already filled them both in about the bus ride.
"We'll do it."
A/N: This was mostly just an introduction to the other characters chapter... Some of the names are references to actresses and characters, but not many of the stories are real. I tried to make them all as original as possible, with the different back stories and their physical appearances.... Let me know what you think! -Katy
