What was going to happen?
Wednesday does not even try to warn Enid or her family, with the confidence that she has digitized with Enid's help all the pages of the grimoire, she runs to the castle dungeon where she plunges headlong into the narrow tunnel that leads to Goody's grave.
"Damn it! It's a unique mush!"
It had rained a lot in the previous days and the ground under the castle was also soaked with water, the already precarious tunnel is now even more dangerous since the only thing holding it together is scaffolding made at best by the two girls as they dig.
"I must hurry."
Wednesday does not want to die from the collapse of a stupid tunnel, but when she read those words on the grimoire a shiver went down her spine, what they had found in the sarcophagus was definitely similar to the sealing ritual described in the diary, but much more complex, the thought flashed through young Addams' mind that this was not Goody's grave, but a place where she had sealed something, something very dangerous, after all, there were no inscriptions or anything else to suggest that the place was anything other than a prison, the only reason they were certain that that was Goody's grave was her grimoire inside.
"What if that diary wasn't written by Goody?"
Wednesday pauses, in the weeks before the crypt discovery she and Enid had spent so much time reading everything there was about Goody's life, and she was always described as a control and order freak, Wednesday had speculated that her ancestor suffered from obsessive compulsive disorder. It was unthinkable that she would have left an item like that lying around, full of mistakes, scribbles, and almost illegible.
"Goody is a nickname...."
The girl resumed descending the tunnel as the gears in her brain went full speed ahead.
She had always assumed that was her ancestor's real name but Enid trying to type it on the Web had told her that it was a nickname and it was also an archaic way of addressing unmarried women of a lower class, which might suggest that "goody" might just be an honorific like "miss" and that her name was not "Goody" at all. This is why her grave was never found; it is probably in the Addams Cemetery, only her real name is on the tombstone, but it has been forgotten.....
"So in the history of the Addams family there may have been more than one Goody, and maybe the one we found was not exactly appreciated."
Wednesday finally arrives at the crypt and rushes toward the sarcophagus, which, however, had been closed by Enid before they left the crypt last time.
"Damn it!"
A metallic sound, a sound that sounds like metal banging or chain rattling.... And it comes from inside the sarcophagus.
Young Addams knows what she has to do, every second counts, she has done it once before, it was a book, but she has already managed to shift something with her mind. Wednesday closes her eyes and begins to think about the darkness, Thing taught her that as a Raven that's where she gets her powers from and she has to be able to get as much of it flowing into her as possible.
"Oscuridad que me rodea, Oscuridad que me impregna,
le da a mi mente el poder de actuar sobre la realidad que sólo mi cuerpo puede actuar"
Wednesday concentrates but as always feels nothing, Thing has repeatedly told her that once she enters the darkness she must find an anchor that will allow her to get out of it and take the darkness with her, but what is she to do if she cannot even find the darkness. The metallic sounds distract her again.
"I am Wednesday Addams, I grew up in darkness, I live in darkness and I am the darkness that normal people fear!!!!!!!!!"
Enid's face, in Wednesday's mind there is only Enid's face, the Enid with the black lock who held her hand in the clearing under the moonlight, the Enid who cried with a smile on her lips after hearing her declaration of love, the Enid who returned her kiss, their only real kiss.
"I am darkness, my heart is pure darkness..... The only times I used dark magic Enid was present and when I use emotional magic I use memories related to Enid.... If I am the darkness.... Enid is the anchor.... Or rather, Enid is that something that Thing could not explain, that something that allows me to control her...."
Wednesday concentrates, thinks of the darkness, thinks of Enid, thinks of herself immersed in the purest darkness, thinks of herself and Enid immersed in that darkness, Enid taking her face in her hands, Enid coming closer....I love you.... And Enid kissing her.
"Oscuridad que me rodea, Oscuridad que me impregna,
le da a mi mente el poder de actuar sobre la realidad que sólo mi cuerpo puede actuar"
A thud, Wednesday opens her eyes, the sarcophagus is open and the lid is on the ground. The chains and ropes are taut as if wrapped around an unseen force trying to expand, young Addams doesn't think twice, with a stride she is over the sarcophagus, reaches out and puts the grimoire back in place and instantly chains and ropes coil back around the stone coffin like a python ravenously wrapping its prey.
"Just barely..."
A noise behind her announces the arrival of a worried, mud-covered Enid.
"Wednesday!!! My God I heard you, or rather I saw you, I saw us! Suspended in midair in the dark then I whispered something to you, kissed you then I saw the crypt, the grimoire and rushed here! What's going on! Why if here? Wha-"
Enid was hyperventilating when Wednesday pounced on her and took her face in her hands and kissed her, a chaste kiss that lasted a few seconds.
"Why?"
It was the last thing the wolf girl expected.
"Because I love you, because you are the best thing that has ever happened to me and because..... because I don't think I would have made it or will make it without you."
This time it is Enid who launches herself toward Wednesday in a kiss that is anything but chaste, a possessive, carnal kiss that rear-ends Wednesday until she is caught between the wall and Enid.
"Calm my wild little she-wolf, you don't want to possess me the first time in a dark and muddy crypt."
Enid freezes, realizing that the moment Wednesday ended up against the wall, she grabbed her thigh and lifted her leg. Enid takes on the color of a Ferrari, a trickle of blood comes out of her nose ... and she faints.
"What should I do with you?"
Wednesday bends down to clean Enid's face of blood and with gentle slaps on her cheeks tries to bring her to her senses.
Someone watched the whole scene, a few steps away from Wednesday and Enid she was standing smugly watching them, aware that neither of them is yet able to see or perceive her, it was fun to make little Addams believe that she had narrowly saved the day, to make her believe that the seal had not broken at the exact moment she had lifted the book, even more fun to listen to the erroneous theory that that messy grimoire was from another Goody, although it is not entirely incorrect, after all the Goody who saved Wednesday from Crackstone died 400 years ago when she sacrificed her soul to defeat the pilgrim, she is what came next.
An adult Goody Addams, her hair loose and messy, her white clothes totally smeared with congealed blood is standing there with a sweet and genuine smile, her eyes wide and still, bloodshot, thirsty for power and revenge.
List limits report signed by Wednesday Addams and Enid Sinclair
Item 8: Enid may not use any of Wednesday's personal items without permission and supervision from Wednesday herself.
Out-of-phase author angle:
Now I used Spanish for when Wednesday invokes her powers, thinking of Wednesday's Mexican origins, although I wanted to use Latin but could not find a translator that gave me satisfactory and consistent results.
