Wednesday's pet
Xavier runs, runs out of breath. At the moment, when Wednesday told him to run, he wanted more to momentarily give it to the girl and then follow her at a distance, and so he did; only a few minutes later did he realize why Wednesday told him to run.
A huge wolf, probably the largest werewolf Xavier has ever seen even in a picture, appeared out of the brushwood, at the sight of Wednesday it stopped and began frantically circling the girl, sniffing and licking her, Xavier cannot believe his eyes. Wednesday laughs, tries to make the beast calm down but is not bothered by it, laughs when he lacquers her face, laughs when he rubs his muzzle on her belly. He had never before seen Wednesday Addams smile with joy.
One step, Xavier steps to the side to get a better look and a branch breaks, obviously the huge brown-coated wolf hears him and also seems to remember why he is there. The boy knows he has been sniffed out, he knows the beast knows his location perfectly and even if he started to run he would not be able to get away from such a creature, but his instincts get the better of him, his instincts feel the killing intent coming from the wolf, Xavier feels he is prey and knows that if he will have his life saved today it is only because something has stopped that wolf, so he turns and runs, hopefully, not to his grave.
Wednesday had also heard the broken branch from Xavier and like Enid immediately knew there was someone spying on them, she only realizes it is Xavier when he starts running and ahe recognizes the Nevermore's uniform and the long blond hair.
Enid is ready to launch herself in hot pursuit. When shortly before she was confronted by Wednesday, seeing her alone and unharmed she had been carried away by emotion, but now that she understood who had unleashed Wednesday's wrath, an anger and rancor that poor Enid had felt but she was still too groggy that she was unable to contain the wolf that had been unleashed.
"ENID STOP! Now! Stop!"
The wolf girl, who was already building momentum to set out on the hunt, stops and looks at Wednesday.
"Nothing happened, in fact, I was going to beat him up because he is an idiot but you now have to calm down and try to change back."
The wolf girl sits on her hind legs, now obviously calm, Wednesday realized it, but something is strange.
"Oh no, tell me that human Enid is still not too weak to take over."
The wolf girl, who had now also begun to wag her tail, bends her head to the side to look at Wednesday hopefully.
"Damn, it will mean we'll go for a walk but we'd better go deeper into the woods and leave the beaten paths, it's already a problem that Thorpe-"
Wolf Enid begins to snarl, Wednesday looks at her, by now it is clear that Enid needs to stay as far away from Xavier as possible, probably all it takes is one bad day from Enid for the wolf to get out uncontrolled.
"Come on now."
Wednesday slowly begins to enter the woods, Enid follows her wagging her tail and circling around her.
*** Jericho ***
Xavier breathlessly enters the police station and slumps in the chairs.
The sheriff who was pouring his coffee at the time certainly does not miss the boy he had arrested only a few months ago on charges of multiple murders. Surely the fact that the boy seems to have escaped death incarnate does not bode well for him.
"Mr. Thorpe. What brings you here again? I hope you and your friend Addams haven't gotten into trouble again."
The boy tries to get composed but is still out of breath and now that he is closer he also sees that he is as pale as a ghost.
"I think there is a new monster running around in the woods, I have seen it and I have also seen that it is under the control of Wednesday Addams."
The sheriff takes a sip of coffee, a new monster would be a disaster, a new monster under Addams' control, he does not know whether to consider it a good thing or a potential catastrophe.
"Was he a Hyde?"
Xavier looks at him confused.
"The monster you saw, was it a Hyde? Was it perhaps -- my son?"
At Thorpe's hesitation, the sheriff began to break out in a cold sweat, Tyler's escape had been kept secret, he had managed to break free despite being kept constantly sedated with horse sedative, opened an armored truck like it was a packet of potato chips, and killed all 6 soldiers escorting him now months ago and there has been no trace of him since.
"No, it wasn't a Hyde, it was a wolf, I think a werewolf."
The sheriff breathes a sigh of relief.
"Your school is full of werewolves, if Addams snuck one out of the cage during the last full moon you should report it to your principal."
The boy shakes his head and takes it in his hands for a moment, then returns to look at the sheriff with the look of someone who has seen death in the face.
"Sheriff, I saw him at most 20 minutes ago!"
The entire office stops; Xavier had not shouted but had used a tone loud enough for everyone to hear him.
"Let's talk in my office."
The sheriff once the boy has entered locks the door and lowers all the blinds.
"Speak."
Xavier chairs himself and with a moment's hesitation begins to speak.
"About one hour ago I saw Wednesday Addams going into the woods alone, I've been wanting to talk to her alone for a while so I followed her."
The sheriff looks at him crookedly; it's never good to sneak up on a girl, especially in an isolated place.
"I followed her for about 20 minutes before I approached her to ask her to talk, at the moment she seemed fine with it..."
Lie, Xavier has looked away and changed his tone of voice on the last words so he is probably lying, the sheriff is easily offended when stupid boys think to lie to him so easily.
"Everything was fine, even when I approached to kiss her she was not against it then at one point she got angry and slammed me to the ground, pinning me down. That's when we heard it, it was distant but I heard it as if coming from about ten meters away from me. A howl that froze the blood in my veins."
The sheriff understood that the boy was lying about Addams' consent about talking and kissing, but when he started talking about the howling Xavier raised his head and stared him straight in the eye, and the sheriff saw fear.
"On Wednesday she immediately told me to run away, to come here because I was supposed to be safe. I pretended to listen to her, but instead I followed her again."
Xavier begins to break out in a cold sweat; if Sheriff Galpin had seen the boy slowly regain color, he now saw him whiten again at the mere memory of what he saw.
"A huge wolf with a light brown coat, earlier I said I think it was a werewolf because it is broad daylight and the full moon was days ago, but also because it was too big."
The boy stops and takes a breath. The sheriff takes the opportunity to think, during last year's investigation, the first suspect that had crossed everyone's mind when they realized the creature was not human was of a very strange werewolf, some had even thought of a wolf deformed by experiments, after all, every year there are stories about illegal labs where werewolves are experimented on to undo or control the transformation.
"Already on four legs he was a little less than two meters tall, but then when I made noise and he became aware of my presence, he stood up on two legs and God help me, for sure he passed 3 meters. I don't think there has ever been a wolf of that size and then it was strange, it was very sturdy and the muzzle then, it was strange, it was much more expressive, how can I explain it, when it looked at me, when it pointed its blue eyes into mine, I could perfectly feel what it was feeling, its anger, its jealousy and it scared me to death."
The sheriff has chills, after what happened with his son he never thought anything would upset him so much again, but hearing Xavier's words, his tone of voice, seeing his eyes, not even Eugene Ottinger looked so terrified when he questioned him about his attack and that little boy had come very close to death.
"Why did you say jealousy? What makes you think he was jealous? And of what especially?"
Xavier points his eyes into those of the sheriff, and his tone becomes more confident and less tremulous.
"I heard him, I heard him as if he had shouted it in my ears! Maybe it's because of my psionic powers but I can guarantee you, he was furious with me because I tried to kiss Wednesday, his eyes seemed to scream: She is mine, now I am going to kill you for trying to touch her."
The sheriff scratches his head, walks around the desk, and sits down as well.
"So you are certain that the creature is related to Wednesday Addams, although I don't know how reliable this impression of yours is, but what makes you think he had control of it?"
Xavier slumps in his chair.
"For one thing the fact that I'm still alive, I'm pretty sure that thing was at Nevermore when it howled and the fact that when Wednesday ordered me to run away then it headed toward the school and the wolf caught up with it after not even five minutes. If it had chased me after I ran away, I wouldn't have gone even about ten meters."
Sheriff Galpin nods, if Xavier's description of the creature matches the truth, then it is plausible that such a beast could catch a boy running away on foot in seconds and tear him to shreds in even less time. Could Wednesday Addams seriously have a killing machine as a pet? It would not be so surprising for an Addams after all.
"I will talk to your principal, then let you know. Until then, shut up about these. Now let's go I'll walk you to school."
The sheriff gets Xavier into the patrol car, but before leaving he makes sure he has a rifle with
bears bullet in the trunk.
*** Woods of Nevermore ***
It has now been 40 minutes and Enid does not seem interested in becoming human again; that side of her must still be exhausted from using dark magic.
"Very good Enid!"
The wolf who was enjoying munching on a tree trunk jumps to attention.
"We have to wear you down a little to even out your human side so how about a little exercise."
The wolf wags her tail contentedly, but Wednesday doesn't know if she has actually understood or just thinks it's time to play.
"An immense, almost unstoppable killing machine, and you act like a labrador puppy -- come on."
*** Nevermore Academy ***
"Yes sheriff, I know who you're talking about, we have a student, whose details I can't divulge, who has this particular condition."
The sheriff had made it clear to the principal that he did not want any more deaths in his town, especially related to Nevermore.
"Then see if you can contain it, even if Addams can control it as you confirmed to me, I would rather not have giant werewolves running around the county."
The principal nods.
"I think I know what caused the transformation; I am more than certain it was an accident. I will have to tell Mr. Thorpe to calm his youthful spirit."
Both men give an amused grin knowing how difficult it is to keep a hormonal teenager at bay.
"Yes, well, I would like to avoid having to sign a stalking complaint against Mr. Thorpe or not even worse."
Dean Coleman stands up smiling and shakes Sheriff Galpin's hand.
"Thank you for being so understanding sheriff."
"Thank you for being so comprehensive in answering my questions."
Upon leaving the principal's office, the sheriff was not surprised to find an agitated Xavier waiting outside.
"Before you say anything, the principal already knew everything, he will talk to the people involved and they don't include you, forget about this, forget about Wednesday Addams and above all stay away from her... at least you listen to me."
And as the sheriff leaves Nevermore, Xavier sees a hasty Wednesday Addams striding through the school gates with what appear to be bloodstains on her clothes.
*** Ophelia Hall ***
Principal Coleman waited until both Ms. Addams and Ms. Sinclair had returned to their rooms before going to them, knowing full well that catching them alone would do little good.
But sure enough, when she opened the door after knocking, the last thing she expected to see was a half-dismembered grizzly bear in the middle of the room and Wednesday Addams taking measurements of the smashed window while a severed hand marked them in an email on a PC.
"Addams..."
Only then does Wednesday realize the presence of the principal, who is instead closing the door behind him, heaven forbid that other female students witness the scene.
"Could you explain?"
Just then the door next to the principal opens and out comes an Enid in a bathrobe with her hair still wet.
"Wednesday got you the hair dryer- Headmaster Coleman!?"
Out-of-phase author angle
If it hasn't sunk in yet, I don't like Xavier, just as I don't like Tyler, so don't be surprised if they're going to be pretty banged up in this story.
