Alvaro Addams

Bianca had to take Yoko to the infirmary. The poor vampire, at the mere sight of Wednesday's gaze, fainted.

Now, after Wednesday and Enid had finished setting up their room, they found themselves in the Nightshade's library, the section on the ghostly architectures of the outcasts much less organized than young Addams imagined; by now she already had around her three stacks of at least a dozen books each, one for books of Asian origin that she could not read but which probably contained nothing about Addams Manor, one for books of European origin, where there are bookmarks in every paragraphs with interesting information, and the last stack, the one where Wednesday placed her trust, consists of books in Spanish written by her ancestors, predating or slightly postdating Goody's events.

Enid, on the other hand, was in charge of American and English source books, since that is the only language she can read well.

"Willa! I may have found something, but this book is in Spanish, you have to help me."

Enid had finished her stack and moved on to other books on the shelves.

"Let me see it."

What Enid shows Wednesday is a handwritten book, where occupying an entire page is a drawing or rather sketch of a house.

"Look at the footnote in the lower right corner."

Underneath the drawing was writing in a font that was quite a bit smaller than the others; it could easily have escaped the notice of an unobservant eye.

"Casa Addams, if I remember correctly casa means house in Spanish."

"I see you are learning something."

Wednesday turns a sweet smile to her companion but does not look away from the pages.

"I can't read it well, it's in a dialect I don't know and it has quite messy handwriting."

At one point Wednesday opens his eyes wide, smiles and then turns to Enid to leave a caress on his cheek.

"You found it, this is the diary of the person who built the first version of Addams Castle."

Wednesday began to avidly read the diary, the more she read, the more she could understand the writing and dialect.

"Apparently Manor was wrong, the castle or at least, the first Addams house was not built over Goody's grave."

Wednesday shushes, her worried look unnerving Enid.

"The first Addams house is this one, Nevermore before it was forcibly taken by Crackstone and then taken back by Goody, is where once stood the home of the first Addams who came here from Mexico, this is the diary of Goody's grandfather."

Enid looks at the diary and then Wednesday.

"How does this help us?"

"Alvaro Addams' daughter, Goody Addams' mother, is buried here, Goody may not have known it but her grandfather survived Crackstone and continued to live hidden among the people of Jericho. Goody's mother was named Esperanza Addams, her father called her that because she was the first Addams to be born here in the U.S., or rather, from what it says here she was born on the U.S.-Mexico border. Now she lies here, Goody buried her under what would become the Nevermore."

"Do you think Goody got buried with her mother?"

Wednesday is doubtful, Alvaro Addams never says the girl's name, he only refers to her as "niece", this fact is strange to the young Addams because he never writes the niece's name while instead the daughter's name is so recurrent. Then Wednesday comes to the last pages.

"Enid looks.... Pages are missing, Alvaro got to write about how his granddaughter defeated the mad pilgrim, but then the pages with what happened next are all blackened...."

The she-wolf also looks at the pages, but there is something strange, that black is too shiny, it almost looks like paint, but it doesn't smell like it, and she was sure that when she took the diary in her hands and flipped through it, the last pages.... They were not black.

"And what are you two doing here?"

Xavier and Ajax are coming down the stairs, and while Xavier has a hard stare on the two girls, the other guy does his best not to cross their eyes.

"Research, if I'm not mistaken it was you who had insisted on giving me access without my being part of the club..."

Wednesday walks slowly toward the boy, while the boy equally slowly descends the stairs until they are face to face.

"Just to help you with the monster thing and now that story is closed, so I don't think why you have to keep that privilege."

The sound of the secret passage echoes one more time, now that she has his guard up, Wednesday hears it clearly, as do the heavy footsteps that come after it and announce the arrival of someone else who is certainly not a teenager.

From the top of the stairs appears a shadow, tall and imposing, as he descends the features of his face are revealed, a rugged African-American man in his fifties, hard-looking but also wise, the man keeps his eyes pointed into Wednesday's, he is studying her and Wednesday is studying him, she understands at once that the man in front of her is not a threat, or rather he could be, but his intentions are not hostile at the moment. The man continues his descent until he arrives next to Xavier and rests a hand on their shoulder.

"Mr. Thorpe, taking away this privilege is not even your job anymore, I think I have just informed you that the Nightshade club has been disbanded permanently."

Xavier nods, lowering his head.

"Yes, pricipal Coleman, I was just warning the girls that access to the library is no longer allowed to anyone."

The principal smiles and lets out a placid laugh.

"From my point of view, it looked like you were trying to pass it off as a revenge on a girl who dumped you."

Behind the principal there was someone else whose presence no one had been aware of. His voice, however warm and youthful, sent shivers down both Enid's and Wednesday's spines, neither of whom had sensed the presence of anyone other than the principal and their two companions. Even Ajax, who in fact stood next to the stranger, did not seem to have been aware of his presence until the stranger spoke.

"Professor Silivieri don't be inappropriate, this is not our business."

The young boy comes completely into Enid and Wednesday's field of vision; he is a span shorter than the principal, so around 6'2", fair complexion, sculpted muscles, hair shaved on the sides and dyed silver on top. Dressed a with a pair of black jeans and a white short-sleeved shirt. To look at him no one would have guessed he was a professor.

"In any case, I would ask you all to leave the library without taking any items belonging to it with you."

The talking principal had taken steps forward to Wednesday's side and he held out her hand to her. The girl pulled out Alvaro Addams' journal from under her sweatshirt and handed it to the principal but without letting go.

"Many of these writings are the diaries and personal works of my family members; it is my right to consult them."

The principal smiled at her once again.

"And it will be possible for you to do that, after a team of experts have studied them, catalogued them and decided which ones are not too dangerous to be made available to the public, it will take about a month and no, Miss Addams, you cannot be part of the study group, you, as well as Miss Sinclair will have to put a lot of effort into the study as well as into your private courses."

At his last words, the man turns and waves to Professor Siliveri, who in the meantime had moved past Xavier and now he is in front of Wednesday.

"I have already explained everything to the principal, I am perfectly capable of helping both you and Enid in your special courses that you have already started this summer."

"What courses?"

Xavier comes forward, but the only thing he gets back is a dirty look from the young teacher.

"Nothing about you or the gorgon."

The principal after also having the volumes Enid had tried to ambush delivered, urges everyone to leave the library and once outside takes the two girls aside.

"We have not officially introduced ourselves yet, I am Professor Timothy Coleman, I have already talked to your parents and guardians about your situation, Wednesday for you I will have a special eye on you, I don't want to restrict you like Principal Weems did last year but I will not accept the slightest headshake from you. Mind for you Ms. Sinclair, I can assure you that for the duration of the school year no member of the Sinclair family will be allowed to approach you or make contact with you without your allowed. Now with permission."

The huge principal takes leave of the two girls, who finally relax convinced that they have been left alone.

"The name Timothy doesn't really suit him, huh?"

Enid snapped, her unsheathed claws one step away from ripping the throat of Professor Silivieri, who, standing behind them, had arched his back to put his head between those of the two girls.

"Gee a big man of more than 6'5 in height and minimum one hundred and fifty pounds of muscle, the name Timothy makes one think of a puny, sickly little boy."

Wednesday's eyes are wide open, Enid's claws passed within half an inch of her face on their way to the prof's throat but before they ripped into him, the man blocked by grabbing the she-wolf's wrist with a gentleness that left Enid stunned. Once he finished speaking he let go of his grip on Enid's wrist and got straight back on his back.

"So.... Would you be a lost member of the Addams family?"

Wednesday has a bead of sweat running down her temple, she had personally committed herself to training Enid in fighting arts, and it was not long before the wolf became sufficiently familiar with basic fighting techniques from being able to clash on an equal footing with Wednesday. Their gap in skill and experience was more than bridged by the she-wolf's growing physical prowess; in terms of sheer speed and brute force Enid is infinitely superior to Wednesday, who is able to overcome her because of her experience and advanced fighting techniques that allow her to use these strengths against the she-wolf herself. It is for this very reason, although she does not show it openly, that Wednesday is upset when she saw Professor Silivieri so easily and lightly stop Enid's attack.

"The branch of my family was not lost, it voluntarily broke away, it did not want to give up all that part of family traditions that the main branch had decided to abandon, which you apparently regretted."

Wednesday regained her composure and turned completely around so that she can look Professor Silivieri squarely in the eyes.

"I don't want to brood over the mistakes of my ancestors, no matter how annoying it is to have to remedy them. Now, are you really here to teach me witchcraft, or do you just want to be a fishcake with my best friend?"

Wednesday's gaze darkens and her homicidal aura grows, after all, the professor had not taken his gaze off Enid even for a second, who felt quite uncomfortable.

"I really don't know what you are talking about and by the way your friend is really beautiful, it would be a shame not to admire her."

Purple sparks begin to leak from Wednesday's palms until ominous purple flames ignite in them.

"Ohhh, apparently you are in a hurry to begin our first lesson...Very Good!"

The young teacher took a few steps back, motioned for Enid to move away, which the girl did not wait to do, then opened her hands and turned her palms upward, fiery red flames glowing in them.

"I am your new teacher Mark Silivieri and today I am going to give you your first lesson in witchcraft: Self-control!"
