The Forest

Louis slept in until noon the day after his move. When he woke up his mother was gone, and left a note on the fridge, she went to work. Louis quickly made himself a bowl of cereal, practically inhaling it then went upstairs to get dressed.

He was going to go explore.

After locking up the house Louis stepped through the back door and made his way to the edge of the forest. Because Louis was new to the area he brought a pack of sticky notes with him to leave on the trees. If they would stick that is.

He stepped into the forest, sticky notes in hand and began his adventure. Every few meters he would place a sticky not on a tree or the ground to remind him of the path he took. Although he hadn't really veered of his straight path, but with trees going for miles and no sense of direction you may end up taking a few turns on accident.

It was about an hour into his walk that Louis stumbled upon a clearing. A meadow, it was weirdly circular with brightly colored bunches of flowers strewn randomly among the tall grass. It looked ethereal and Louis couldn't get enough.

He sat directly in the middle of the clearing and then sprawled out on his back heaving a sigh. The sky was a beautiful blue with the occasional cloud, the breeze was just enough to keep Louis cool as the sun beat down onto him. He closed his eyes, just listening to the chirping of birds and the rustle of the leaves on the trees.

~*~*~*~*~
Harry was once again making his way through the forest in his wolf form. His paws clawing at the ground in his trot, it was one of the best feelings in his opinion. Running free through the forest, no sounds except the thumping of paws and the birds in the trees.

He was making his way to his meadow when he skidded to a stop and sniffed the air. His mate was in the forest. He shot off like a rocket at the thought, following the scent.

The scent of his mate was strongest then he reached the meadow. Slowing to a walk, Harry stalked around the surrounding trees. His mate was laying in the grass, spread out like a starfish. It was adorable, but he wasn't moving. Was he asleep? Was he dead?!

Harry slowly made his way over to his mate, trying to to make a sound, afraid of scaring him. Every couple seconds he would tip toe his way forward a couple inches then sit and stare. He was soon right near his mates head, peering over him.

His mate let out a sigh, then his head lolled to the side, his mouth parted slightly, letting out small snores. Harry's heart was almost beating out of his chest, his mate was perfect. He lowered his muzzle into his mates neck, taking in the sweet smell then let out a huff.

Louis face scrunched up as he felt something prod his neck and face. It was prickly and made him giggle slightly as he woke from his nap.

"Mum," he slurred. "Stop it." He then reached out a hand to swat away at the sensation, only to be met with a tiny growl and huff.

His eyes snapped open and his head turned, coming face to face with a wolf that could easily be as big as those from the twilight movies.

He let out a scream and scrambled up to his feet, backing away slowly, never taking his eyes of the wolf that was sitting much like a dog would obeying its owner.

How was that possible? How could a wolf ever grow to that size? It was huge and Louis had no chance if he tried to run, there was no way he could survive it.

But Louis being Louis, he slowly started to turn, getting ready to sprint like he never had in his life.

As soon as Harry noticed his mate moving to turn he whimpered. A loud whine that echoed through the circular meadow. His mate froze at the sound. And Harry laid down onto his stomach, with his head on his front paws and began scooting himself forward towards his mate.

Louis stood dumbfounded. The wolf was inching forward on its stomach and it was the funniest thing Louis had seen to date. It looked like it was trying to imitate a snake, wiggling its giant body. Louis couldn't help but let out a giggle. The wolfs giant head shot up and it's eyes widened. Louis jumped a little in shock, his giggles ceasing.

Harry stood up to his full hight and he could tell his mate was scared when he did, so he whined again and let his head slump forward a bit. A sign of submission. Staring into his mates eyes Harry felt complete. The pools of wonderful ocean blue sucked Harry into an abyss that he would be happy staying in.

Louis took the time of stillness to examine the oversized wolf in front of him. He noticed the silky looking dark brown fur that had cute little waves scattered throughout. The eyes of the wolf drew Louis in the most, bright forest green that somehow made Louis feel safe. Louis couldn't believe how cliche it all felt, but it was the only way to describe the warm feeling spreading through his body at a rapid pace.

Harry continued walking slowly towards his mate until his head was less than a foot away. He sniffed, smelling the slight fear, but it was heavily overpowered by the warm vanilla and burning fireplace scent that his mate secreted. He leaned down farther, hooking his head over his mates shoulder as a hug of sorts. Nuzzling farther into his mates neck Harry could feel him freeze. He let out a quiet whimper.

Louis was scared shitless. A wolf was 'hugging' him. He didn't even think that was possible. Then again, a lot of things Louis thought were impossible were showing up today. After a few seconds Louis slowly brought his hand up to rest on the side of the wolfs neck. It huffed and snuggled farther into Louis. Louis stumbled over his legs a little not ready for the strength the wolf had. He giggled again and began to run his hand through the ridiculously soft fur on the wolfs neck.

Harry was in utter bliss. If he could purr, he would. His mates fingers through his fur felt like heaven and Harry felt he was melting into puddle of warmth. He didn't even know his mates name yet.

Harry pulled back his head and sat on his hind legs to look at his mate. He was so small. About as tall as his back when he was standing in his wolf form. So small, Harry loved it.

Harry lifted a paw and waved it at the boy barely touching his chest. Of course, his mate replied with a confused look. Harry rolled his eyes and swung his head to the side.

"Damn, for a wolf you sure have sass." His mate spoke. Harry scoffed.

Louis was immensely confused. The wolf could understand him?

"You understand English?" He asked.

The wolf nodded his head up and down, and stuck it's paw out again pushing Louis slightly.

"What?" Louis was still confused.

The wolf scoffed again then threw its head back and thumped the ground with its paw. Louis raised a brow. The wolf rolled it's eyes and stood up walking over to the trees. It brought its paw up and started scratching something into the tree. Louis walked over.

"You can spell too?" Louis asked incredulously. This wolf was weird.

Louis looked to the tree to see an 'H' carved out.

"H?"

The wolf barked in what seemed to be happiness. Louis then realized.

"Oh! My name? I'm Louis. Nice to meet you H. I guess." Louis replied. Still not really believing the entire situation.

Louis. Harry thought it was perfect for the the perfect boy next to him. He barked again happily. Walking up behind Louis he began pushing him lightly with his head on Louis' back, leading them both back to the middle of the meadow.

Laying down Harry tugged at Louis pant leg with his teeth, making the boy sit down with him. He laid his head in Louis lap and sighed in relaxation.

Louis giggled. "You are cuddly aren't you." He smiled carding his fingers through H's fur. "How bout questions then? You huff or bark for yes and growl for no? Just don't growl too loud, not a real fan of the sound." It was weird how Louis found himself so accepting of the situation, but if the wolf wanted to cuddle instead of kill him then he had no problem with it.

Harry huffed, getting excited to know more about his mate.

"So does 'H' stand for something?" Louis smiled.

H huffed.

"Ok I'm gonna say a bunch of names then. Bark when one is right." Louis reasoned.

H huffed.

"Henry, Harrison, Hubert," Louis giggled, "Howard, Horton, Harry, Har-"

H shot up an barked, frightening Louis a little. Louis laughed.

"Harry then?"

Harry huffed.

"Okay Harry, do you live near by?" Louis asked, and continues to card his fingers through the soft fur when Harry laid his head back on his lap.

Harry huffed.

"Me too, how old are you? I'm seventeen."

Harry huffed.

"You're seventeen?" Another huff. "Hm, didn't know wolves lived that long. You not an old man are you?" Louis asked with a laugh.

Harry huffed then growled and released a weird chuckling sound.

"Do you like the color green or red?"

Growl.

"Hm, what about orange?"

Growl.

"Purple? Yellow?"

Growl.

"Blue?"

Huff.

"Well my new favorite color is green." Louis laughed, and laid back in the grass.
