Chapter Thirteen
Days had passed since I had added all those books to my library.
They were good but reading all these books was beginning to clash with my academic schedule.
I had almost forgotten to submit my Physics assignment this morning. Luckily, Faruq had reminded me.
Reading a ton of books had its perks though. I left a lot of comments and votes on books and kept up with updates so I made new friends on Wattpad.
I had had this conversation with Angelina_Stephen yesterday.
Angelina_Stephen: What's an almanac?
Multimouse_3.0: It's an annual calendar containing important dates and statistical information.
Multimouse_3.0: Why are you asking?
Angelina_Stephen: I came across the term in a book and was too lazy to leave Wattpad.
Multimouse_3.0: I know that feeling. It's one of the reasons why I don't like reading historical fiction.
Angelina_Stephen: Me neither, but we do learn from it though.
Multimouse_3.0: Yeah.
Have you read the sugar men by Ray Kingfisher.
Angelina_Stephen: Oh my gosh.
I love that book.
Multimouse_3.0: But the ending is so sad.
Angelina_Stephen: I know.
But at least it's satisfying.
Multimouse_3.0: Yeah:-(
And I had this conversation with Renarouge-reads in my comment section.
"Loser!" Kemi snickered eyeing Beatrice " So much for misses before misters.
Renarouge-reads: Kemi is such an *itch
Multimouse_3.0: Language Miss Rena.
Renarouge-reads : Sorry, I'm just so mad at Kemi. She reminds me if Lila from Ladybug.
Multimouse_3.0: I know right.
Couldn't stop telling lies for anyone.
Renarouge-reads: Yeah.
I wish I could give Kemi a slap right now.
She just goes around ruining lives.
Multimouse_3.0: I wish you could too.
Renarouge-reads: We're you bullied as a kid?
Multimouse_3.0: No.
Renarouge-reads: Then who is your inspiration for Kemi.
Multimouse_3.0: No one.
I read a lot of books and I know how bullies behave. A few used to mess around with my Friends some time ago.
Renarouge-reads: I think your description is really cool.
Multimouse_3.0: Thank you.
Like I said, Keeping up with new updates more reading requests and A lot more is a bit tricky.
But I think I can handle it.
And now it's time to try tactic two.
Joining a Competition.
Hopefully, it won't backfire like tactic one. The last thing I need are more books to read.
I can't believe I just... Never mind.
I typed in contests on the search bar and got the usual mix of jumbled up results.
After scrolling up for a bit I found a few contests that were still open.
I decided to try a Competition called the Crystal awards. Apparently, the only two genres that my book would fit in, the Chick lit and teen fiction genre were full.
So I had to try another one.
Runningsounds didn't mention how frustrating it could be to find a contest to enter.
A few agonizing minutes later, I finally found one.
The sparking lights awards.
I have this bad habit of checking the open genres instead of the rules first. Just goes to show how impatient I am.
When I found out that the Chick lit genre was still open, I sighed in relief before going to trade the rules.
I groaned at how long the rules were. By reading through it I had learnt that the host of the Competition was Rosette_XX.
She was demanding a follow for herself and her community the sparkle lights community in exchange for permission to participate.
I had ten followers and was following only fifteen accounts so I didn't have any issue with that.
She had made it clear that the Competition was for books with less than a thousand reads and mine only had fifty.
Check.
I also had to add the contest book to a public reading list and do a shout out for it.
This wasn't a big deal either. It wouldn't take me up to two minutes to do that.
Checking the timeline of the contest I found out that judging didn't start till early May and ended in the first of June.
I'm not really the patient type. I didn't know that the Competition was going to take this long.
I sighed. The competition ends on the fifth of June and the results will be announced.
A long wait, but finding another Competition to try would be a lot of work.
Last but not the least, the password was your favourite story book.
I tapped the story part called participants Forms and entered my book.
I really needed to hurry up though. According to the genre overview, there was only one more slot in chick lit.
I typed out my form in this format.
Username: Multimouse_3.0
Book title: Say it like you mean it.
Genre: Chick lit
Sub genre: Teen fiction
Password: The hunger games by Suzanne Collins.
After submitting my entry, I read a few book updates and logged out of Wattpad.
Pulling down my notification tray, I discovered that I had two messages from Amy.
Amy: Hi bae.
Amy: Video call at nine pm today.
I scrunched up my face in confusion. Something was definitely up. Amy didn't usually warm me before video calling.
Niyi: And so?
Amy: Just wanted to warn you.
Niyi: Why?
Amy: Because I'm adding Faruq.
It was like someone hit an instant reset button in my brain.
Faruq... Calling... Tonight.
Niyi: Uh, ok.
Amy: Chillax guy.
The worst that can happen is that you accidentally pick up the phone nude.
She sent me three laughing emoji which I replied with an eye roll emoji.
Niyi: Are you mad?!!
You say that like it's not a big deal.
Amy: Because its not.
You would never do that.
What kind person even does that anyway.
Niyi: Ok oh.
But you better call with sense.
Amy: I'll try my best ma.
I lay back on my bed imagining all the possible scenarios that could take place.
Faruq and I chatted a lot but rarely ever did video calls. He wasn't a big fan of them himself.
Using my phone screen as my mirror I check my braids. They didn't look too shabby.
And my turquoise turtle neck with denim shorts didn't look too bad either.
I guess I looked ok.
I just hope I don't forget and end up answering the call in something indecent.
Author's note.
Lest I forget, there's actually a book called Wattpad strategies no one told you about. It's my inspiration for Wattpad cheat codes.
Check it out. It's really useful:-)
Thanks for reading 📚
