Chapter Five
I lay on my bed early the next morning excited to get to work.
I had gone to bed almost immediately after my parents had gotten home to get some rest.
But it took a while for me to fall asleep, I was just too happy.
I heard someone knock softly in my bedroom door.
"Are you awake?" My mother asked quietly.
Wait, mum's still home, I jumped out of bed and picked my phone off my bedside table.
"Five thirty AM" I whisper yelled.
It was probably a bad idea to sleep at eight o'clock last night.
"Yes" I said sitting up in my bed.
My mother walked into my and settled down on the little arm chair beside my bookshelf.
My brother and I got our skin complexion from my dad. My mum was the only one in our family with fair skin.
But at least I had her pink lips and light brown eyes.
"Good morning mum" I greeted with a smile.
"Good morning dear" She said. She was already dressed for work in a black suit jacket and matching skirt.
" Is everything ok? " I asked wondering why should would come into my room
She smiled in an encouraging way "I was actually going to ask you the same question"
I raised my eyebrows wondering what on earth she was going on about.
"You went to bed really early yesterday night" She said frowning " You only do that when you're really upset "
Awwwn.
My mum was worried about me.
Usually, she was too busy travelling around the country compiling news for the people.
It's really nice when she shows she cares.
"I'm fine mum" I answered with a grin "I just wanted to get up early"
"You sure?"
" Yeah"
"And Tayo isn't giving you any trouble?" She asked smiling.
"He's just being his usual goody self" I laughed.
"Ok" She said getting up "I need to go off to work now. Just checking in"
As she was about to reach the door handle, I walked over to her and have her a hug.
"Thanks mum" I said.
"You're welcome" She said hugging me back.
Standing there, hugging my mum, just felt perfect. I always thanked God every morning that I had parents like her and dad.
They were usually pretty busy because of their demanding jobs but they always found time for us.
"Oh" She said when I pulled away from her "Aunt Aviva said I should greet you"
Aunt Aviva is my mum's twin sister. She and my mum were like two peas in a pod.
My mother never went a day without talking to Aunt Aviva. Even if she had to make a call at midnight.
Aunt Aviva and I weren't too close, but I really liked her because she was nice to me and Tayo.
"Ok mum" I say beaming "Tell her I said hi"
She nods before walking out of my room.

It was eight o'clock. I was showered, dressed and fed. I could start working on my book.
I moved to the living room with a book in one hand and my techno camon phone in the other.
I switched on the light in the living room before settling down in one of the armchairs.
I turned on my phone and while waiting for it to boot I flipped through the notebook in which I had written my story titled "say it like you mean it"
When my phone came on, I ignored the floral wallpaper and tapped the Wattpad shortcut.
I logged into my account and was a little bummed out when I found out that my only notifications were announcements.
I decided to just start working on my book already.
I tapped on the button in the middle that looked like a pencil.
It brought up another button that read "Create a new story" and I eagerly tapped in it.
I mentally face Palmed myself when the next page loaded.
There was a column for the name of the book, the genre it belonged to, the blurb, tags to help you find the book and most importantly...
The cover.
"Silly, silly silly Niyi!" I muttered glaring at the space where the cover was supposed to go .
In all my excitement to start writing a book and become a great author, I totally forgot about the cover.
I tapped on the space where the cover was supposed to be and two options came up.
Choose from gallery
Create one with deysegner.
I tapped the second option and was redirected to the Google play store.
My eyes widened in surprise when the next page loaded.
"What on earth is Canva?" I asked myself scrolling up for more information .
According to the developer, it was this app that you could use to design all sorts of things not just covers.
WhatsApp stories, Instagram stories, banners, posters and A while lot more were available on this app.
I hit the download button and waited for it to come up.
It didn't take too long for the blue icon with the white c in it to show up on my notification tray.
"Canva has successfully been installed" I smiled to myself .
I opened the app and waited for it to load patiently.
Canva was definitely underrated. There were all sorts of designing options available.
There were tons of pictures to choose from for the overly excited designer and A bunch of templates for people who were looking for an easy way out.
I kept scrolling up until I found a section for book covers. Ignoring the other templates, I tapped on the blank one and waited for the next page to load.
A dark themed worked space came up,with a white canvas in the middle. There was a button at the corner with a plus sign on it.
"Tap anywhere to start editing " The middle of the canvas read.
I tapped the middle of the canvas and A few options came up. I tapped image and typed in black ladies since my book was going to be centred on girl power.
A bunch of images popped up and it was hard to choose which one I wanted.
Especially when a few weren't for free and came with the canva subscription package.
I finally found one where a bunch of brown skinned ladies were sitting at a table with bright smiles on their faces.
I frowned when I realized that I couldn't find the text button. How was I supposed to add my pen name and book title?
Looking around, my eyes landed on the little plus button.
Tapping it I found a bunch of options including the text option.
I tapped it and picked a random don't because I wasn't really the designing type. All I really needed was a cover for my book.
When I was done with my work are cringed. The cover looked weird and the text was out of place.
But at least now I have a cover.
I saved it to my gallery before uploading it to Wattpad.
Now, I could keep working on my book in peace.
