Chapter 8
Glorfindel had been pacing in his private rooms for most of the day. Tonight was a night to have fun and celebrate, yet, after what had occurred this morning he found it hard to relax. He had dressed and bathed for the dinner with the grand idea of spending time with Elrond. Through, he knew that they wouldn't be alone.Thranduil was going as well, with Legolas, of course. Something told him that more people would be on edge tonight, rather than merry.
He ceased his pacing and looked to the door and then to one of the windows. Glorfindel growled and continued pace.
He wanted to go and see if they were done speaking. Sure, they had been doing so since this morning but you wouldn't believe how long those meetings last. He wanted to know what the Woodland King wanted from them. He had more than a bad feeling, it felt like there was something making his stomach turn.
Glorfindel's head shot up when he heard a door slam, and he had more than a notion of who's door it was. The Vanya bit his lip, did he go now? No. He would wait. Besides, what was a few more minutes of pacing? Glorfindel took a deep breath to try and quell his swirling stomach before going back to his pacing.
What if Thranduil was going to take Elrond back to Greenwood with him and then he would be left alone?! People often needed healers and Elrond was the best you could get. Glorfindel stopped in his tracks and took another deep breath. Now he was being delusional. Thranduil probably came for food or for money , maybe troops. Not Elrond.
The Commander looked around and his gaze ended upon the door from his rooms . Maybe he should go and see if he could find Elrond. The festival would be starting in a little while anyways and hopefully Thranduil was of somewhere else.
Glorfindel slipped out of his room and into the hallway. Empty and quiet, it didn't seem normal for a night like this. Normally the people went from hall to hall, you could hear them singing and laughing by it was silent. There was no laughter and no song. At least it was not loud or merry enough to reach this end of the city. That seemed like a bad sign.
Elrond opened his study door, came out, slammed it shut and laid back onto the wood with an exhausted sigh. "Stressed?" He looked over at Glorfindel, who went over to his side.
"Ai. dealing with Thranduil... don't know if tonight will be as nice as I thought. I just want tonight to last forever. No choices to be made, not situations of any kind, just drinking, singing, laughing, and feasting."
"What did he ask of you?" Elrond looked around the hall, his eyes narrowing at the empty space that lead from the wing.
"How about we talk about it afterwords." Elrond gave the Vanya a sweet smile. "I would rather not speak about it now when there are festivities to be held." Glorfindel nodded, putting his arm around Elrond's shoulder. He pressed his nose into the Lord's hair, sighing.
"How about we go, I'm sure their waiting for us."
"It's far too early for them to be waiting for us."
"You would be surprised."
"I doubt that, love." Elrond sighed, pushing away from the Commander. "But if you think we should go, we might as well. We'll have to go sometime I suppose." Glorfindel nodded, getting up off of the bed and holding out his hand.
"I agree." Elrond slipped his hand in his, the Vanya pulling him up. "Besides, waiting will only kill me."
Elrond chuckled. "Ai, you are like a child, Glorfindel."
"You aren't the first to say such a thing." He rubbed the thick metal bands that covered the base of many of the Lord's fingers. Cold to the touch, yet more beautiful than any other pieces of fine jewelry that the Commander had laid eyes on.
"I thought so." Glorfindel pulled Elrond into his arms.
"Ai, Elrond, you know me so well."
Elrond snorted. "Or I'm just gotten good at reading your reactions."
"I'm sure that's what you call it. Isn't that called love?"
"I think it just what you call love."
"Of course, I forgot that it was only me who said things like that." He swung the Half Elf around as if in a dance to a slow song. "A love sick fool."
"Truer words have never been spoke." Glorfindel shook his head.
"Whatever you say my Lord." He stopped swinging around, standing and looking into the Half-Elf's face. He looked so much better than in those recent months, Glorfindel liked that. He liked that his Lord didn't look like all of his blood had been taken. The scars were still there, of course they were. A dark line on his neck that was just above a silver and sapphire pendant.
Elrond intertwined his fingers with Glorfindel's more and looked down at their hands. "Shall we go then?"
"If you will come with me."
"It's not a matter of will, it's a matter of nothing. I have to go."
"Would you not go if you had the chance?"
"Alone, I wouldn't care." The Lord's cheeks took on a pink hue. "With you, I think I would." Glorfindel smiled.
"I'm glad to hear it." He put his fingers under the lord's chin, tilting his head upwards, and pressing his lips to his. Wrapping his arms around the Lord, he didn't think the moment would end, until there was a knock on the door. The two of them broke off almost in synchronization, took a few steps back, and clasped their hands behind their backs. They both stared at the ground, hoping to maintain a state that looked normal.
"My Lord, the dinner is starting." Erestor, the librarian, slipped into the room. His dark hair falling over onto his face only to be brushed back in annoyance.
"Ah, thank you Erestor. Lord Glorfindel and I will be leaving, you shouldn't worry." The Lord looked up from the ground, all traces of the pink in his face gone. The Librarian bowed. Looking at Glorfindel, he swore that he saw the librarian wink in his direction. Erestor left, closing the door behind him, black robes swaying by his feet.
"I did tell you, Elrond."
"... It would be wise not to say anything, Glorfindel, unless you want to go back to where you started."
"And what does that mean?"
"If you go on, you'll find out." Elrond grinned, the spark in his eyes looked almost wild.
"I'm afraid I would rather not." Elrond dipped his head, the spark disappearing and the grin being replaced by a thin smile.
"A good decision." Elrond grabbed Glorfindel by the hand, intertwining their fingers once again. "Perhaps we should go before my advisor, librarian, comes back."
"Or we could finish."
"And really get caught by someone."
"All right then my Lord, let's go down to the dining hall." He pulled Elrond towards the door. Glorfindel pushed open the wooden door and shoved Elrond out into the hallway. He closed the door with little sound and grabbed the lord by the hand once more before they walked to the dining hall.
There were Elves lining the halls as they got farther along. Sweet music drifted through the halls, some of the wandering Elves even sang along. Glorfindel looked over at the Lord while they walked. He seemed more relaxed than he was when they first spoke. His posture more regal and less anxious.
He pulled the lord close for a moment, whispering in his ear. "Is Thranduil coming?"
"Of course he is, why wouldn't he." Glorfindel took a deep breath and gave the lord a sideways glance. The one he received back told him everything.
'I don't want to deal with tonight.'
He felt the same way, mostly. All he could hope was that everything worked out nice. Hoping that nothing bad would happen tonight. He would get to drink, eat, and talk. Thats was nice to him. He hadn't gotten to do that in a long time.
They walked into the dining hall. It was filled with Elves, not like that wasn't expected. Most of them gathered around Thranduil, asking him about hoe Greenwood was and how his wife was doing. Legolas was no where to be seen and many people were disappointed by such a thing.
They sat together at the end of the longest table. Polished wood and royal Elves as far as the eyes could see.
"My Lords and Ladies." Elrond clasped his hands behind his back once again and stood tall at the end of the table. "Tonight is the final night of the Holiday of Kings. Tonight, we drink and eat like kings ourselves." A large cry went up among the people, showcasing their approval to the idea of drinking and feasting.
Glorfindel laughed, shaking his head. He loved this city. He loved that the people were always so excited. Elrond fell down next to him, sighing.
"Don't want to talk about Thranduil?"
Elrond raised and eyebrow. "Do I need to? They all seemed to have found him already."
"That's no jest." He grinned as he watched Thranduil get swarmed by the people at the feast. "Should we help him?"
"Let him be until he asks. He only gets one favor from me."
"You can be a cold hearted man sometimes."
"It's not my fault he doesn't like me. I'm only reflecting his feelings." Glorfindel watched the King talk to all of the people around him. Speaking and swirling a glass of red wine around in his hands.Glorfindel shrugged, continuing to watch the King.
The food soon came from the kitchens, large plates of anything and everything that the cooks could throw together. Bread, fruits, nuts, plants, whatever they could make they made it. Glorfindel had seen quite a few feasts in his days in Gondolin, but the amount of food they could make here at Imladris always surprised him.
He grabbed quite a bit of everything, wanting to try every single thing that come out of kitchen unless it was something he knew he didn't like, which was nothing so far. Elrond took little bits of this and that, never large amounts like the commander took.
Elrond took a little from the commander's plate every so often, receiving a glare from the Vanya when he saw, it was all in good fun though. Lindir and his group of musicians began to play songs while the people ate and talked.
"You know." Glorfindel pushed his plate away. "We don't have to be here. You could tell me all about what Thranduil wants, we could be away from all the people..."
Elrond chuckled. "you really want to be alone with me tonight."
Glorfindel could feel his cheeks beginning to burn. "I'm just interested in hearing what Thranduil told you earlier." Elrond laughed,
"Sure you are, if you really want to though I suppose we could call it a night. Still, there is a lot more that's planned to happen."
"Like what?"
"Well... Uh." Elrond ran his fingers around his collar.
"That's what I thought. Now, you should tell me about what happened earlier."
"I can't brush you off it seems. " He sighed. "Oh alright. Let's go. I'l tell you what you want to know."
thank you Elrond." He looked up at the Lord. "If you want to stay you can though."
"Good Heavens no! I don't want to be here! I told you earlier, I came here because I had to."
"Then we'll go?"
"Why not." Glorfindel got to his feet and held out his hand. Elrond took it, pulling himself to his feet. "Let's go back to my study." Glorfindel nodded, pulling Elrond back towards the wing they had come from.

So yeah, that happened. I'm sorry that it has been MONTHS since I updated! I can't believe that myself. It's crazy how time flies sometimes.
Oh well, I hope you enjoy this and I will post and update as soon as I get to it. I am currently working on a novel with a friend who doesn't have a Wattpad account, I'm hoping for it to be pretty long. So, I'm sorry for not updating, but I am working on other things that I will post in the future. <3
