"Grandpyyy...what are you doing here? "Kanika whispered to Mr.Krishna Ram, who was bending down and searching for something inside the refrigerator. It was midnight, and almost everyone in the house was asleep.

"Sshhh...You will wake everyone. Just be silent. Where the hell is it? "He spoke, still searching for something.

Kanika, Yadhu, Shreya, and Arjun came to Yadhu's ancestral home two days before the party. Kanika and Yadhu's granddad bonded well in just two days and were more or less partners in crime, as Shreya stated it.

"Found it, "Krishna Ram said excitedly as he took out a can of Gulab Jamun from the fridge.

"Heyy...gulab jamun," Kanika squealed in happiness.

"Sshh...sshh...sshh...Don't make noise...if Yadhu and that Hitler woman find us, they will grill us alive," Krishna Ram said, hushing Kanika.

"But grandpy...You are older than them, and you can eat anything you like. Why are you scared of them? "Kanika asked innocently.

"Kani baby, I'm a sugar patient, and Yadhu has given me a strict diet. On top of that, my doctor is Shreya's friend, and she is strictly monitoring my health. They don't let me have sweets. Shreya controls even my maids. I used your name to buy all these sweets. Or else this fridge would have been a desert without sweets," Krishna Ram whined to a clueless Kani.

"Oh, grandpy...They are cruel people. How can they not give my grandpa sweets? Don't worry. I will sneak all my sweets and chocolates to you from now on, "Kanika hugged Krishna Ram in assurance.

"Deal? "he asked as he took two bowls from the kitchen and served the gulab jamun.

"Deal, "Kanika replied as he passed one of the bowls to her.

They both were about to dig into their dessert when a clapping sound startled them.

"Wow...The thieves are caught red-handed," Shreya said in an angry tone.

"Grandpa ...Don't you know that eating sweets is not suitable for you, and your sugar levels can shoot up," she asked, crossing her hands above her chest.

"Grandpa, Shreya is right. It's unhealthy for you to eat sweets," Yadhu said, coming to the kitchen accompanied by Arjun.

"Grandpu wasn't eating sweets. He was just giving me company, "Kanika defended Krishna Ram with a naughty smile on her face.

"Yeah ...we can see that," Shreya said sarcastically.

"Arju...Grandpy can eat sweet, right?" Kanika immediately turned towards Arjun for aid.

"Of course, Nothing will happen to him if he has a little bit of dessert, "Arjun said, snatching the bowl from Kanika's hand.

"See Grandpy...the good doctor says so. Now eat," she fed the sweet to Krishna Ram while giving a victorious smile to Yadhu and Shreya.

"Him?...good doctor?... And what are we? "Shreya was pissed off hearing Kanika.

"Calm down, Shrey...It's just a bit sweet, "Yadhu tried to calm her down.

"A little dessert can be really harmful to him with his medical history. Here I'm behind you to keep your health in check, and you decide to start eating unhealthy at the very first chance you get. Well, who am I to you? Just an outsider...Why would you listen to me now that you got your granddaughter?" Shreya grumbled and started to walk off from there.

"Shrey baby, You are my first granddaughter. And now I'm blessed with two beautiful and loving granddaughters who dot on me," Krishna Ram said, hugging Shreya, who had tears in her eyes by then.

"Don't try to butter me up. You still can't have those sweets," Shreya said, smiling at Krishna Ram.

"Don't cry," Kanika sobbed, seeing tears in Shreya's eyes.

"Here, you can have this," Kanika forwarded the bowl in her hands to Shreya. Shreya looked at the bowl and Kanika in confusion.

"Friends?..." Kanika asked, looking at Shreya in anticipation.

"Ok..."Shreya said, looking unsure of herself.

"Oh, come on, wifey...Don't be a jealous kid. Accept her friendship," Arjun said, still eating his dessert.

"Shut up, Arju. Who said I have a problem with Kanika? And stop eating like a pig," Shreya rebuked Arjun.

The whole family laughed hearing Shrey and Arjun's bickering. Yadhu had happy tears seeing his granddad laughing after a long time. He knew his granddad loved Shreya and Arjun as his own, and that's the reason he made them stay with him along with them. After their midnight dessert session, all of them retired to their respective rooms as they had to celebrate Krishna Ram's special day tomorrow.

Yadhu's POV

"Grandpa...Is it ok with you if I bring along Kani for the party?" I hesitated as I asked granddad.

"Are you crazy to ask me such a stupid question? Of course, I want to take her to this celebration. She is my family now," he snapped angrily.

"I mean ...I thought ...since she is..."I stuttered, unsure how granddad will take my question.

"Young man...I know your problem. Do you think that she will be an embarrassment to me? "He hit my head gently.

"You know what...I don't give a damn about this award or this party...All I care for is my family, and Kanika is part of my family. And I have accepted her wholeheartedly. So whatever confusion you have in mind, just throw it in the bin," he said sternly.

"And one more thing, Yadhu. Never think of her as an embarrassment. I know you won't do that because you are a good person. I don't know the exact reasons for which you married her because Shreya just gave me a vague explanation. And I don't want to know the reasons either. But she is your wife now. And it is your responsibility to stand up for her and be her support system as long as you both live. It's not her fault that she is childlike. So I believe you will always be there for her. Don't disappoint me, Yadhu," he said, looking at me affectionately.

"I won't, granddad, "I hugged him emotionally.

"Gosh...This family is full of emotional drama. Come on, boys...let's rock this party. Where are the ladies?" Arjun shouted, walking into the room.

"Seriously...Why are you excited about this party?" I asked him.

"Obviously Food...I'm going to eat to my heart's content today," he replied in a duh tone.

"And where does all this food you eat go...it's definitely not seen on your body, "grandpa mocked him.

"That's because I maintain my body, he smirked at both of us.

"Let's go, guys," Shreya's voice made us all turn towards her.

Kanika and Shreya stood at the bottom of the stairs draped in saree. I smiled, seeing Kani pull her saree here and there uncomfortably while Shreya was scolding her not to do so.

"Shrey...Why are you both clad in heavy sarees? You both should have worn something comfortable," I questioned in concern.

"I know ...but it's an elite class party, and we both are the granddaughters of Mr.Krishna Ram...so we need to keep our social standing," Shreya said in a are you crazy tone.

"That's right...I have to flaunt both my princesses today," Grandpa quickly agreed with Shreya.

"Nandhu...we are matching...red and red, "Kanika clapped her hands happily, looking at me and her clothes.

"Wow...what a romantic coincidence...let me take a picture of you both," Arjun said, taking out his mobile.

Granddad made us both stand together, and Arjun and Shreya took our pictures in their respective mobiles. After that, we took a family selfie before settling down in our cars and driving towards the party venue.

"Shit..."Shreya cursed under her breath the moment we stepped inside the party venue.

"Why are you cursing, sweetheart?" Arjun asked her as he held her hands. We were on our way to our allocated tables.

She motioned something through her eyes, but Arjun looked clueless.

"Yadhu's shitty ex-family is here," she whispered to Arjun, which clearly fell on my ears.

"And that bitch and that bastard too, "she cursed again.

I felt that heartwrenching pain yet again hearing about my family.

"Yadhu..I didn't know they were invited too, "granddad looked at me dejectedly.

Let's go back," he said suddenly with determination and turned to leave, but I stopped him.

"I'm fine, grandpa. They have hurt me enough. They don't affect me anymore," I assured him, as I didn't want to spoil his big day because of my insecurities.

"Are you sure, Yadhu? "he asked again to confirm.

"I'm sure, Grandpa, "I said with a smile to assure him. Soon he was taken to the center stage to do the honors by organizers, and we settled down on our allotted table.

Kanika looked around with amusement as she talked to Arjun nonstop about her incessant doubts about random things. Arjun was patiently replying to her queries. Shreya looked pissed off as she was seated facing Harsh and Anjali, who was on the opposite table and were newly married.

I looked around, and my gaze finally fixed on Mr.Saran Krishna and Mrs.Devika Saran for a moment. Mr.Saran looked shocked to see me here, and he and his wife looked at Kanika with confusion. It seemed like they were trying to figure out who Kanika was and what she was doing with us.

As the event progressed with speeches given by several businessmen, Kanika started fidgeting. Moments later, granddad invited us to the center stage and introduced Kanika as his granddaughter and my wife surprising everyone. Grandpa said to his fellow businessmen how he was blessed to have two grandsons mentioning me and Arjun and two granddaughters(Shreya and Kanika)who loved him to no end. After the introductions, we retired to our respective tables and waited for granddad to join us.

"So Yadhu...It's good to know you remarried. Finally, you found someone of your status," a mocking sound caught our attention, and we all turned to see the owner of the voice.
